Summary: Masaomi asked Katara out. She said yes after the draft. He gave her some time to settle, and then offered a time for it to happen - she accepted,and here we are.

[Aaaand here. We. Go. He considered just wearing that same suit, but that might have been a tired thing. He could have put on something the Prince would wear -- he even considered it -- but thought better of it. In the end, the settled for something like this, but with less obnoxious socks and the dress pants from the suit instead of Jeans. He still thinks he looks nice, but now he doesn't look overly nice! Or demanding!

Man he's confident but it's possible he under-dressed. Oh Well. Knock, one arm behind his back]

[ She knows you're coming, Masaomi Kida. She was up to answer the door before he even started knocking, and he will find it briskly opened after he's only had the chance to get one knock out.

It's time for some good old fashioned hazing. Man, she is so glad she got here first. Perks of being an earthbender. ]

[If he's surprised Toph got the door first, it doesn't show very much. Yes his spine is more rigid and his heart rate went up a bit to be ready to fight on the off chance he needs to (particularly because Linda is not with him) but none of these signs would be visible to anyone unless they knew how he moved very well.

...Or, you know, they're Toph]

[ To her credit, at least she steps aside to let him in. But that might have as much to do with being polite as with limiting his avenues of escaping her scrutiny. ]

Are you gonna try and kiss her? [ She aptly starts to crack her knuckles. ]

Well, if she gives me an opening, I'd take it, anyway. [He steps in. He's still ready to defend himself if need be, but he's waving a hand a little with a smile. An easy one, the perfect picture of relaxed to anyone who actually uses their eyes] That said, I've my doubts I'll get that signal.

[metalbends]

[She spits on the ground. Don't...step there.] Good. Then you're not as thickheaded as I thought! What'cha gonna do?

[...A light exhale]

I'm not really sure that's your concern for the time being, Toph-chan. Nor do I need to prove anything to you.

[Still, he's the picture of composure here, keeping an even tone for that]

[OH HI MASAOMI. TOPH. YOU TWO WEREN'T DOING ANYTHING INSANE, WERE YOU?

Katara comes rushing out of her bedroom door. For the occasion, she's wearing the same light make-up she wore with Ling, lip gloss, eye liner, and mascara. But while for Ling she dressed up, for Masaomi, Katara chose to wear one of the more modern outfits she could actually see herself being comfortable in. She wore a long blue tunic-like sweater with a collar that turned down into a boat neck over a pair of dark brown leggings. She'd found comfortable boots in the same dark brown with fur lining both the inside and the outside, and wore a matching belt, giving the tunic definition. For the occasion, she'd strung the coin he'd given her on a long leather band and wrapped it around a wrist like a bracer.]

Hey! Sorry, I didn't hear the door.

[metalbends]

[She can feel Katara coming before she appears, so she'll aim and elbow at Masaomi's ribs before Katara is in sight of them. And when she does appear? Toph will greet her with an innocuous grin.]

Good thing I've got your back, huh?

[generalflirt]

[He actually leaned a little out of the way. Not enough to spot the blow (that would stand out) but enough so it isn't as, well, hurting. But when she does come there, he gives a bright smile indeed. ]

Hooooh, I almost feel under-dressed now.

[markofthebrave]

Yeah, good thing.

[He looked - a little unmatched, to be honest, but still very nice. His words, though, caused Katara a moment's nervous panic.]

Really? I thought these clothes were casual-wear. I can go change if it's too much, it won't be more than a few minutes.

[metalbends]

[ ...Are they really gonna stand here and talk about what they're wearing? Wow. Bo-ring. ]

Sounds like you two are in for a killer evening. [ She starts to saunter off. ]

[Aang steps out of his room obliviously.]

Hey, has anyone seen my-

[And then he looks back and forth. From Katara to Masaomi to Katara. What's Toph doing?]

My- my window. That's right, I gotta... clean my window.

[And he is disappearing into his room and sealing himself in.]

[He utterly refuses to be deterred by any of this. In fact, he ignores that Aang popped up entirely, instead focusing only on Katara and bowing slightly]

Wahaha, no, I meant only that you look beautiful. There's no need to change.

Okay, then... [the smile she offered Masaomi was a pale shadow of a thing] I'm ready to go.

[Goddammit.

His frown deepens, and he look at Katara, then to where Toph fled from, then to where Aang fled from, and then back to her. Not with that smile. Not like this]

No you're not.

[And his shoulders slouch, one of his hands going into his pocket.]

[Katara blinked, smiling falling right off her face.]

What? Of course I am. I just need to get my jacket.

[Why are you looking like that?]

No, you're not. Because you gave me that smile. [He shakes his head, sighing

A sad smile comes up onto his lips.] Maaah, I'm okay with a lot of things, Katara. I'm not okay with perpetuating your misery.

[markofthebrave]

[She frowned a little.]

I don't know what smile you mean, or what you're talking about, exactly...

[But I refuse to let my life be determined by guilt or fear.

She stepped closer to him and went up on her toes to lightly kiss his cheek.]

But I am ready to go.

[She moved from there towards her jacket.

This wasn't easy or simple or free of pain. But it was her choice. Just one date, like she'd said, but she wanted to be as free as she could be, wanted to know if what she felt for Masaomi was anything like what he felt for her.

He saw her, she knew that he did. More, sometimes, than she wanted him to.]

[When he's kissed, even in that capacity, he's actually taken aback a moment. His hand comes out of his pocket quick enough, but he also did not see that coming. He didn't know what he was expecting - denial, another argument - but it was certainly not that that sort of brisk confidence.

Because while Katara was amazing in all things, he had never known her to be forward with romance.

The new bit of information makes his eyes go wide for a second, and he's dumbfounded for that second-]

[And then he smiles - a broad, bright, earnest smile when she's not really looking at him and instead looking for the jacket.

This time, I guess I've underestimated her.

Other thoughts flood him in that moment: Should he get the door, should he take her hand, should he have brought flowers, what should he say to Ikki tomorrow, what should he say to Aang next time he sees him, is Sokka going to murder him for this, what would Shikamaru say if he saw this, among others. But his thoughts crystalize with a dismissal of doubt ]

Well, I'm glad to hear that.

[Sorry.]

[Katara glanced over her shoulder at him and smiled.]

Good.

[She shrugged on her jacket. She couldn't dismiss Aang's face. She knew she'd take it with her throughout the night. She wasn't doing this to hurt him and hated that it did. But she had made up her mind.

The question then remains if Masaomi will beat her to the door.]

[Of course he will. Sauntering over to make it look natural, opening the door with a half-bow and a smile. The prefect look of... well, getleman-ness? Affection, maybe?]
