EVENT LOG: SCAVENGER HUNT

Who: All you scavenger hunters!
What: Scavenging and other fantabulousness, I suppose.
When: November 24th to 28th
Where: The whole village! And yet also all over time and space...

As announced by CJ, the village's immediate environs are divided up according to this map. There are five areas: the Nile, Ice Age, Space Opera, Shogunate, and Gangland. Time-and-place appropriate architecture and conjured up NPCs exist in each area.

Don't forget the scavenger hunt! While actually finding things is ultimatly optional, you can find more information on the hunt here. If you want to claim a reward from the hunt, be sure to link at least two related threads on the new rewards claims post.

Finally, here's a quick rundown of the objects:
- In THE NILE: A ceremonial dagger and a piece of Pharoah's treasure
- In GANGLAND: A tommy gun and a set of car keys
- In ICE AGE: A bone spear and a smilodon's tooth
- In SPACE OPERA: a raygun and part of a robot
- In SHOGUNATE: a samurai sword and water from a kappa's head

[Lupin hadn't expected anything serious from this Shift, only the cartoonish recreations of everything that his world had to offer in either history or literature. The Nile had been little more than a parody of every stereotype that existed in film--he didn't expect the 'ice age' to be any different.

It was. The cold went deeper than the blizzards that chilled him to the bone, and not even the thick wool or the furred cape of his new 'costume' was sufficient to keep him properly warm.

He futily tried to call upon the fragments he was picking up from Eferin to at least keep himself warm, but he was too distracted to focus properly.

Lupin needed this hunt. He knew it. Now, if only he had a partner for this snowy terrain...]

[Ami was dressed as properly as possible, with plenty of furs and layers to trap the warmth. But the cold, strangely, didn't seem to disturb her at all. She stood tall amid the snow and ice, and hurried towards Lupin as she saw him struggling to stay warm.]

Lupin-san? Are you alright?

[He hadn't expected to hear that voice.

Lupin turned his collar up in an effort to keep warm before he regarded Ami fully.]

It's a little cold. [He grinned sheepishly.] Didn't think that they were serious.

This seems to be made to replicate the conditions during an ice age. The temperatures and precipitation will be extreme. Please be careful.

[Which really raises the question 'what are you doing out here?', but she doesn't ask that so directly.]

...why does a doctor like you want to hunt smilodons anyway?

The tooth will lead to rewards. [She doesn't specify what she might plan to use those for.]

Even though we both want that, we should be able to obtain more than one at once. It would be more efficient to work together.

[But did he really want a young doctor as a partner out here in the bush]

[He does when she's not bothered by the cold, and capable of taking care of frostbite among the other likely hazards.]

It will be safer to have medical help nearby, too.

[He huffed. She was right, in her own way.]

All right. Just know, I'm not that great of a hunter.

[translation: he can't take care of you.]

[It's alright. She'll take care of pulling her own weight.]

I won't slow you down.

[He pulled his cape tighter around himself and gestured for Ami to follow.]

This feels...[A little like Hoth, the fragmented memories of the Commander provided.]

If you're cold, we'll find heavier clothing and more layers. [Practical of her. But she also pushes to keep going. They have a goal.]

For the time being, let's focus on what we're looking for. It will help us to bear with the weather, too.

Right.

[Don't mind him if he's a little distracted. This entire scavenger hunt is two fold for him, but it only looks to be successful on one front.

He sharpens his focus and gestures for Ami to follow.]

I'm thinking we'll head to the Rec Center, if it still exists, and see what we can learn from our fellow residents or the locals. Since we need to get a spear...what's to say that we won't find both of the items in the same place?

Wait.

[Ami has never been one to trust easily, especially in these circumstances:]

If many people are looking for the same thing, they might not want to share what they've learned.

[Teaming up together like this is different; they have a clear chance of both being rewarded. But what about 'everyone'?]

[A sly grin. Questioning a thief of his calibur is very dangerous.]

Please. Who said anything about asking?

[The sly grin is greeted with seriousness.]

Then, what are you planning to do?

There's a lot you can learn by simple observation, Ami-chan.

...as for the locals? We'll think of something.

[That's... fair enough, she supposes.]

In that case, I'd like to keep going together. [She keeps their paces even as they head towards their goal.]

Do you think the Malnosso have another purpose in arranging this?

That's a good idea.

[He flexed his gloved fingers under his cloak, to keep the blood flowing in the intense cold, as they drew near a rocky slope that was dotted with caverns. Given the circumstances, these could only be homes.]

I think they do. This might be another 'test', but we can't say that for certain right now.

A test of motivations. How far will we go, for their rewards. [Though the words are a question, her inflection makes them a statement.]

I believe that could be likely.

That's a good thought...

[But he had other possibilities in mind. Pagoda and O'Connell were fine examples of what this could mean.]

What else were you thinking of? [She catches that hesitancy, and assumes he has ideas of his own.]

We're being conditioned.

[He doesn't want to go into details on the mission. Not yet.]

It seems likely; but to what purpose? What are they hoping to accomplish in the end? [Soldiers for the fight against the Third Party is the most obvious. The taunts about bloodthirst in the Malnosso's message would be desirable in that case - and take on new meaning.]

The easiest explanation is that they're doing this for PR.

[Then he remembers that Ami was there for Shikamaru's meeting.]

Some of who went on the mission are still processing everything. It'll be known when it becomes relevant.
