EVENT LOG: SCAVENGER HUNT

Who: All you scavenger hunters!
What: Scavenging and other fantabulousness, I suppose.
When: November 24th to 28th
Where: The whole village! And yet also all over time and space...

As announced by CJ, the village's immediate environs are divided up according to this map. There are five areas: the Nile, Ice Age, Space Opera, Shogunate, and Gangland. Time-and-place appropriate architecture and conjured up NPCs exist in each area.

Don't forget the scavenger hunt! While actually finding things is ultimatly optional, you can find more information on the hunt here. If you want to claim a reward from the hunt, be sure to link at least two related threads on the new rewards claims post.

Finally, here's a quick rundown of the objects:
- In THE NILE: A ceremonial dagger and a piece of Pharoah's treasure
- In GANGLAND: A tommy gun and a set of car keys
- In ICE AGE: A bone spear and a smilodon's tooth
- In SPACE OPERA: a raygun and part of a robot
- In SHOGUNATE: a samurai sword and water from a kappa's head

[He flexed his gloved fingers under his cloak, to keep the blood flowing in the intense cold, as they drew near a rocky slope that was dotted with caverns. Given the circumstances, these could only be homes.]

I think they do. This might be another 'test', but we can't say that for certain right now.

A test of motivations. How far will we go, for their rewards. [Though the words are a question, her inflection makes them a statement.]

I believe that could be likely.

[But he had other possibilities in mind. Pagoda and O'Connell were fine examples of what this could mean.]

What else were you thinking of? [She catches that hesitancy, and assumes he has ideas of his own.]

[He doesn't want to go into details on the mission. Not yet.]

It seems likely; but to what purpose? What are they hoping to accomplish in the end? [Soldiers for the fight against the Third Party is the most obvious. The taunts about bloodthirst in the Malnosso's message would be desirable in that case - and take on new meaning.]

The easiest explanation is that they're doing this for PR.

[Then he remembers that Ami was there for Shikamaru's meeting.]

Some of who went on the mission are still processing everything. It'll be known when it becomes relevant.

[No, as she thinks about it, it makes sense even without an explanation. People doubt the Malnosso - as they should. Offering rewards, so long as people put a little effort in, will help that within the village.

And without. That announcement mentioned passing the ethical inspection. They need to keep convincing the public that what's happening here isn't wrong.

But it is.]

I see. I think I have an idea what you mean.

[Though his thoughts were different. Sheriff Williams from Depot 8 came to mind--she was a tough-as-nails frontierswoman who had originally resided in the Pagoda enclosure that the Depot supplied. Rumors around the little town also suggested that she may have come from O'Connell, the other enclosure that was at risk, but that only made the circumstances more confusing.

Lupin suspected that this was part of a ploy to slowly groom the residents into members of the organization by allowing them to think that they were doing it of their own will. It was twisted, and another factor about why the mission was so conflicting.]

I think I see the Rec Center ahead. You ready?

[It all comes out to the same place, really: mistrust the Malnosso. She'll never put that aside, not after what she's seen after this long in Luceti. So despite working within their system (a thing she dislikes anyway), she is not theirs.]

I'm ready. I think so. [She adds the disclaimer after a second to realize she's not sure what to expect at the rec center, with everything else so changed, too. Will it still have anything to help them? It should, she reasons; its nearest equivalent should still have warmth, and some supplies.]

[He has no idea what to expect either, but the way he reaches for the gun that the Malnosso mercifully allowed him to keep suggests that he's willing to use scare tactics.

Lupin lead Ami toward...the cave that was once the rec center. Normally his own gentlemanly ways would have allowed the lady to enter first, but he saw her as primarily a noncombatant. The fact that she was his temporary partner was secondary.]

[She's not troubled that it's become a cave; she expected that. But being a gathering point, she hopes it has a fire at least.]

Now that I think of it... I wonder what sort of things are in the stores right now.

[But despite asking it aloud, this isn't the time for that question.]

[He can hear something ahead, under the din of people--and it did feel a little warmer.]

...you know, Ami-chan? I think we'll jump that hurtle when we get there.

Ah- Right. [Oops. She got carried away, didn't she? Ami offers a slightly tentative smile.]

Shall we go in, then? [She cautiously makes the first steps.]

[He smiled, all confidence.]

Of course. I can hear something ahead.

[translation: let the master do his work.]

[It could be people, or...]

It could also be animals. Let's go carefully.

[Logic dictates the former is more likely. But it's better to be cautious, in her mind.]

[It felt like people, Lupin thought. It felt like they were nearing people...

...but the smell wasn't what he was used to.

Lupin paused briefly and looked back at Ami.]

Please tell me that you're armed. This ain't Kansas.

I can fight. [She doesn't elaborate. With luck, she won't have to at all. With decent luck, there won't be anything beyond what she can handle without transforming - though she lacks Makoto's strength or Minako's skills.

She's still a soldier.]

[He only trusts her so long as she can run--it was why he was ready to pull out his Walther in a moment's notice, if needed.

Lupin nodded in acknowledgement, even as he held his reservations. He would trust her for the moment, but he expected her to listen if he told her to run. With another glance ahead he motioned for her to follow him--to the wall, where they would continue their trek until they had more intel.]

[There was the question of whether a weapon would exist in its normal form in this area, when their clothes had changed. She's been able to transform, but everything else on her has changed everywhere she's gone.

So Ami relies on her wits, and to a lesser extent, her hand to hand abilities. And she'd be willing to run - if someone else's safety wasn't at risk.]

One of the things we need here is a bone spear. If there are people in the caves, someone might be able to make one, too.

I'm thinking...that we can find both of them, actually.

[A faint smile. Animal teeth weren't uncommon finds in tribal ruins.]

[She's not as confident; but since Lupin is, Ami's content to let him lead.]

We might be able to offer something in exchange. A trade. Bartering.

It will be nice if we can...

[But he had something that made a loud noise. They could scare their way into getting what they needed.]

We might not be able to come to an agreement, but I want to at least try. [She can recognize realities. But she'd rather try the best solutions first, the ones where no one is left caught short.]

[They neared a split in the passage, and he motioned for her to stop. Cavemen or not, these were still people who could be a potential threat to the both of them. A delicate touch was needed, for the moment.]
