["NO." Have a spear aiming at your THROAT, Ceodore.]

[Sigh. Why does he always have to resort to pointing that damnable spear?]

I'm sorry, Kain. I... I'm not good enough to bring her back.

[Because obviously it's his shortcomings with magic that are to blame here.]

[Dodge fast, Ceodore, Kain's now attempting to decapitate you. He doesn't believe this, he can't, he can't, he can't, HE CAN'T.]

[He's already breaking and in a way that will never be repaired.]

[The benefit of knowing who Kain is in the future is paying off now. Ceodore's all too familiar with his fighting style, which makes it all the more easy to block and dodge that attack. He refuses to land a blow himself, but he's not going to become a target for Kain's grief-maddened abuse. For added insurance, he quickly casts Blink on himself.]

Kain, STOP! This will not help her!

[Kain doesn't care. He's beyond caring about anything in this pointless, miserable world. Every moment that goes by, the darkness closes in on him further. He feels himself surrounded and suffocated by it. This whole mission has been nothing but horrible, underwater he can't even see the SKY. Everything is wrong.]

[Every strike Kain makes at Ceodore is an aim to KILL, and he tries this several times regardless of that Blink spell.]

[And the darkness closes in further, until it's all that that Kain can feel or see and nothing is ever going to bring him back from this brink of madness. He's going to fall and when he does it will mean danger for everyone he knows. He can't risk that.]

[There's not much sanity left in him... but he knows what he has to do before he loses it. Abruptly Kain halts his attack, turns, and begins to walk away.]

[That last strike is close. Too close. Ceodore manages to avoid it, but barely and a small lock of his hair is the victim of it. Terrified he's really going to have to hurt Kain to stop him, he starts with surprise when the dragoon simply quits and walks away.]

Hey! Wait, where are yo-

[Lucky for the suicidal one, a Third Party fighter comes around the corner and immediately lunges for Ceodore. No chance to give chase right now.]

[Kain turns his head to look at Ceodore, to make sure he's not being followed. But instead of distress or any similar reaction one would expect, there's a disturbing calm in Kain's gaze. Because he's made his decision. One way or another, Kain isn't planning to survive the day. Not without Rydia.]

[Once more, Kain turns and continues along his way. He'll stop back at his room only to set aside his healing items, journal, flashcards and other things to write with/on. He tries several times to write a card to show his intentions to Yuber, but his hand is so shaky, that he crumples up several bad attempts. Finally, he gets that done and heads back out to the field.]

[He'll be there soon, Rydia. He promises.]
