[Seeing the soldiers charging for Rydia while she's recovering from her spell, Saleh pulls out his Thunder tome. He calls out to Rydia, warning her of his own attack.]

Rydia!

[He outstretches his hand, unleashing a powerful bolt of lightning that stops the remaining targets dead in their tracks. He also freezes momentarily after the spell to recover, and to keep an eye out for any more incoming soldiers.]

[Letting the mages do their thing from where they are, Kain rushes into position in front, slashing and stabbing at every enemy in his path.]

[Selphie nods grimly before using some of the magic she'd been given. A fira was thrown into the face of the attackers who were trying to get in her face before the nunchaku was flying out soon after. She managed to get her arm up in time to block a blade from slicing into her face. The vambraces spared her most of the damage save for a thin slice along her cheek.]

[Too rash to consider any possible pitfalls to what he's doing, Ceodore rushes in front of Selphie and stabs the one who got in a hit on her. Watching that one drop gives him a sense of satisfaction and he spins to find another coming right at him from overhead. Blocking that with his shield, he shifts to join Kain in leading a frontal charge. He's counting on Saleh to provide the healing backup as needed.]

[Frey frowns when he sees that aerial attack, which was way to close for comfort in his opinion. He decides to cast The Shredding, slashing several third party soldiers out of the sky with pale green blades of wind. Those that land and try to get up are going to get rushed as soon as they move.] Watch out for attacks from above!

[Rydia glances up when hearing that...and then puts her magic to work once more. Quickly, she conjures a tornado and sends it at the incoming party soldiers. The blast scatters them, reducing the one who caught the brunt of it to a minimal threat. He can easily be picked off by the others. Rydia, meanwhile, casts Osmose to replenish some of her energy.]

[Saleh instantly feels overwhelmed as the soldiers become scattered. As they recover, one of them leaps into the air, coming down on the sage with an overhead sword attack. Although Saleh raises his staff by each end to block the attack, the sheer force of it knock him to the ground.]

[The soldier raises his sword over his head to deliver a finishing blow. With his back on the ground, Saleh raises his staff to try to defend again, but he could use some help...]

[...and that help will come from Kain, who vaults himself into the air pole-vault-like with his spear, and then turns the weapon to jab it firmly into the back of the enemy who's targeting Saleh. Kain pulls his spear free and the soldier drops lifelessly to the ground.]

[More are incoming, so Kain turns at once to stab the next one coming toward them... all the while moving along to keep his position somewhere between Rydia and the soldiers. As much as can be done with them spread about as they are anyway.]

[Selphie pitches at Aero spell in front of her, not waiting for the dull thuds of bodies slamming against objects before whipping out her nunchaku again. A few hits do land eventually before she looks over her shoulder.]

We've gotta cut a path toward Sector 5! [She pulls a potion out of her item bag and downs it before pitching the empty container at another soldier who thinks that flying is fun.]

[They haven't had too much chance to practice the band but it's worth the chance if it works.]

[Rydia nods and quickly does just that. She's not too sure it will work either, but now's the perfect time to find out.]

[At precisely the right moment, the spell lights on Ceodore's sword, and in a smooth motion, he stabs forward, sending bolts of lightning to take out everything blocking their way. He nods crisply then grins at Rydia.]

[Kain also looks at once impressed and confused by the ability that Ceodore and Rydia have done together. What, they're coordinating attacks now? She never shoots lightning on HIS spear!]

[...well, whatever, there's still enemies to fight and Kain is going to focus on their objective here. So he hurries to do as Selphie's asked, rushing ahead and skewering any enemies in his path.]
