[Congratulations, Vash. You have officially created a more unbelievable sight for Mihai than when he watched a nicotine-deprived PI mow down a mafia family, all for the want of a cigarette. On the surface, this situation is absolutely ridiculous. The guy is screaming and flailing like he doesn't have a clue, and randomly firing his gun at that.

But Mihai is watching for that shot, and when it sounds he does indeed look in the direction where it has been aimed. Yet another miss on his part--but can it really be for the reason he's thinking?

It's an obviously stunned old man looking in Vash's direction now. Mihai's good, with skills developed over the course of a long kill-or-be-killed career as a hitman. But shooting to deflect bullets isn't even something he'd try without being fairly desperate. This guy, though? Has done it multiple times without a single miss.]

All right. Why? [Although he's got an idea, Mihai wants to hear it from this guy's mouth. Hell, he almost needs to in order to believe it.]

[Vash blinks in utter confusion before pointing at his gun.] I think this thing is broken or something! Hey, mister! Could I use yours?

[Yeah, that might have worked a few minutes ago, but Mihai's getting more skeptical by the minute. It's just too much to have been a coincidence.]

Your gun is working just fine. Or do I need to try and make a few more kill shots to prove it?

[And speaking of, Mihai really can't not shoot for too long. Things tend to get too close if he slacks off. But just for the sake of argument, he'll aim for something less vital this time.]

[Huh, Vash seems a little preoccupied attempting to slowly refill his gun one by one. It must be his first time using that gun because it takes him a bit to figure out how to even open the chamber.]

[...What the hell is up with this guy? Mihai just watches for a moment, then shakes his head.]

I know the shots were coming from here, and I don't miss. Kids may like their fairy tales, but I'm a bit old to keep playing pretend.

[Vash looks up, again looking innocently confused as he attempts to figure out how the bullet is suppose to go into the chamber of his gun.

Only... the effect is a little ruined when a Third Party member thinks this would be a great idea to charge out of a bush, tossing a knife toward Vash as he charges. After all, he makes a great target. Standing there with his gun open, looking all kinds of confused.

Aw crap.

Suddenly Vash remembers damn well how to load his gun, shoves the bullet into place, and snaps the chamber shut. With the three bullets he's managed to load so far he blasts the knife out of the air before striking the man charging at him in the wing and thigh; dropping the man to the ground.]

[...Yeah, so about that whole attempt to play the fool? Mihai's going to assume you're done with that.]

You know, I've been doing this for most of my life. It's not all that often I meet a guy who can make me feel like an amateur again.

[Mihai will quickly slide out his own empty clip, then replace it with a single smooth motion.]

Well, I did just lucky most of the time. [He'll HALF be done with it.]

No you didn't. [Mihai's grinning a bit now, largely because trying to argue with the guy clearly won't work. So Mihail will call Vash on his crap, but without any sort of anger behind it.]

So do you always aim not to kill?

Yes, it is not for us to decide who lives and who dies, so no one has the right to take the life of another. [Wow, you got a straight forward, honest, and serious answer from him!]

[Well that answer makes Mihai silent for several minutes. There are things to shoot again, which does help--and yes Vash, he'll be good and just go for disabling. Like he said earlier, there's no point in wasting bullets, or putting Vash at risk because he's too busy trying to "correct" Mihai.]

That's a pretty philosophy you've got. If you didn't shoot so well, I'd guess that you'd never lived in the real world.

[Seeing as his cover is blown, Vash will help you take out the targets. Aiming to take out their wings as they fly. As for your comment, he doesn't really have much to say to that. Gunsmoke is about as real as it gets.]

[Well, silence works for now. Mihai can focus on the work while it stretches, along with his own thoughts. He's a little annoyed by what Vash has said, but he knows it's childish; nothing but guilt and anger at himself for abandoning that idealism years ago. But thinking through things, situations he's been through, something that naive just wouldn't have been possible for him. It isn't Gunsmoke, no, but the city isn't a nice place either.]

Well. I was blunt earlier, but I guess if you can live that way, it's a good thing. [More power to you, Vash.]

You think so? [He was expecting a lecture; hearing that instead is kinda nice.]

It's definitely harder to do. [And not for Mihai; some people really did deserve to die for what they did, whether this guy thought it was a person's "right" to judge that or not.] But it's probably nobler.

[Mihai thinks back to something, and grins.] This might sound kind of random, but you wouldn't happen to know a preacher with a giant cross?

Who smokes, swears, and really isn't all that priestly? [Because you know... there's just so many of them.]

[Mihai laughs.] That's him. [Which makes this guy the one who keeps Wolfwood from becoming a devil. Not that Mihai will let Vash in on that part, but it's good to have met the guy.]

I've shared a few drinks with him. My name's Mihai Mihailov, by the way.

Good to know.

[Wait... if you figured out he knows Wolfwood.]

...what did he tell you my name was? [HIS HAIR DOES NOT LOOK THAT MUCH LIKE A BROOM!]
