[Archie clasps Alistair's hand and climbs up, still pretty wary of the great beast, but as intrigued as anyone who'd grown up wondering what it might be like to fly on the back of a mythical creature.]

[Take them down? Alistair, Archie is not sure what world you come from, but in his, it's not every day you're riding on a creature that flies. Briefly, Archie's arms tighten around Alistair from behind. Then, the lieutenant releases laughter like he's never lived before and didn't realize it.]

[Kennedy gives a little groan. He did, but he lent it to Sayo because he didn't know he was yet to be drafted. Hopefully she puts it to some good use, at least.] I suppose you could throw your armor at them. It's doing plenty of damage to me already.

[He does keep having to duck back just so Alistair doesn't bang a shoulder into his lip.]

Well, what do you think we should do then?

We're outnumbered. We have to outrun them--or outfly, as the case may be--and find help. We can't take them on by ourselves. Not unless we're going to employ a tactic... [Archie is not used to land battles. So. Okay. This is a ship, not a flying gryphon. Those are other ships down there. What do you do? Run and pray you won't be pursued. What do you do if you're an idiot?]

We could try to lure them away one at a time. Attack, retreat, attack, retreat. If we want to die, at least.

If we do that, we could just run into more of them that way, or lure them to an even less prepared group of allies. Let's try your tactic. It's worth a shot, anyway. We'll run if we have no choice.



Do you think you could grab a hold of one of those, those spears they have? We could use it. Did any of those on the ground carry any?

I saw a few. You realize this is completely mad and retreat is a legitimate tactical choice, not an act of cowardice, and poses considerably less risk to our persons than what I suggested?

[But he's looking back, and that horrible, scary part of him that wants to taste death again to see if it could possibly be as bad as he remembered? That part is reaching out toward the winged creatures flying toward them.]

[Take the reigns? Of a GRYPHON? Archie has ridden a horse, but...well, come to think of it, he did drive a tractor yesterday. With knives all over it. This shouldn't be too hard.]

Yes! [He does indeed have them, but he's not sure what to do with them. This beast is not a horse. When one of the angelic beings runs at him, though, he yanks the gryphon towards it, and the creature immediately guts the enemy soldier with its claws. Hunh. He's never seen that particular task accomplished that way before.]

[Archie is not sure how to get this thing flying, but apparently it speaks the same language they do, because it immediately starts flapping its wings. In fact, it starts to crouch down for lift-off before Alistair is even on it. As soon as the Greywarden has boarded, it launches into the air and leaves Archie's stomach on the ground.]

What do I do with it? Throw it?

[He immediately realizes that's a stupid question. Throwing the spear would mean having no more ammunition. On the other hand, using it at close range would mean they could have used their swords instead, without risking their lives.]
