DOESN'T NEED A CUT. People should know how this works, if not, just follow other people's lead. I'm gonna set up some strategist threads at the top, for the four strategists to use if they want to, otherwise people should start their own threads.

[...

... Law'd be calling you a foolish idiot if he heard what was going through your head while coming over at the sight of someone bleeding all over his floor. Oi, oi, don't play martyr in his ward.

Of all the damn stupid things... ]

Mister Vash?

[That is a command to ANSWER him so he can determine if you're still in the land of the conscious.

You're suddenly going to feel hands lifting you and guiding you to a gurney. Major laceration wound - check. Massive bloodloss - check. Wing clippage complicating injury - check.

Checking for other injuries at a brisk pace while calling for plasma and packs of red blood cells and albumin syringes.]

What happened out there?

[Get talking to him.]

[Please, Mister Vash was my father. My name is Mister Martyr!]

Yeah, it's me.

[He's still with it, just tired. From both the blood loss and just the fact that he's been fighting almost non-stop these past couple of days.

Vash is a good patient when he knows he has to be, and this time he has to be. So he's happy to move under his own legs still once he's upright again and as long as you lead the way. Less thinking involved that way.]

I made a mistake. [And you may have not asked, but he's been shot up enough to know what most doctors tend to like to find out right away.] I'm type O.

[Don't recognize me, huh, Mister Martyr?]

Mistake, huh? Did you get hit anywhere else?

[He doesn't need to know the specifics. Just needs to keep you talking. Time for that coat and anything underneath to come off so he can have better access to that wound to treat it.]

Alright. Type O. Negative or positive? [He will type later to make sure. O neg was what he was going to give you anyway, but you type anyway, regardless. You type even when they swear to God. Because there's always that chance they're wrong.] Mister Vash, have you been transfused before?

[Because even regular O neg then might not be safe. The ABO and RH blood groups are not the only antigens acting as barcodes on the red blood cell to be concerned with - they are only the ones well known. In total there are over 30 different blood groups to be concerned with. And a person might develop antibodies to any of them - rarely is a person's true blood type the exact same as the donor's. And the more transfusions, the greater the chance is that those antibodies have been formed.

And some of them do kill... over a process of days, rather than near immediately like the ones of the ABO.

So while he has antigen negative O neg units that are safe for the situations like this, he needs to know just in case there IS a reaction anyway. So he can intervene before things turn deadly.

In a perfect world, he'd have someone already doing a screen for those antibodies. But.

This is war.]

Negative. And I have. [Of course once Vash's coat and the leather he wears under it are removed it should be rather obvious to Law that Vash has probably had a number of them in his lifetime. And yes, those are random bolts and metal plates keeping his body together and an impressive looking fake left arm.] The last time was in... [A pause. He knows this, but details aren't his strong point right now. Oh wait, he remembers now.] November.

[It really isn't so bad. His quick movements saved him from anything crippling. It was the waiting so long and the blood loss that has been his main problem. Not to mention he had his wings strapped down to his back. The damage to that is what is making him so sick.

But it may look as if it was starting to heal already. And if Law happened to be around to see some of Vash's earlier scrapes from the days before, they may be a little hard to pick out now. With the power cap down Vash's body can work a little better at it's quick healing.]

A few small cuts, nothing I haven't been able to take care of. [He would have tried to treat this one his own too, you know... if he could have SEEN it.]

[It's not the worst he's seen, but that explicitly answers the question about transfusions. Shit. Probably has a whole damn zoo of antibodies running around in there.]

Right. November.

[He's been here the whole time. And he notes the accelerated healing, but doesn't comment. People from his world tend to mend quickly too. And while the cut itself might not been too bad by your standards, the things that could have gotten in there are more than concerning. The last thing he wants to deal with is something like Staphylococcus aureus or Group A strep, or one of the Clostridiums getting a hold in there.

Because necrotizing faciitis or gas gangrene with a side of bacteriemia would really make his day.

So he is very careful cleaning out and disinfecting that wound before stitching it closed.

He is also starting the treatment of your blood loss by giving a shot of albumin. It would also suck if you passed out on him due to hypovolemic shock due to a rapid decrease of blood pressure. The albumin should start getting things on that front to a healthier equalibrium. Draw out any excess fluids forced in the tissues back into the bloodstream.]

I think I'll take a look at those in a few minutes, if you don't mind. See how they're fairing.

They're fine. [They really aren't that bad. Although... there is that gash on his leg he hastily treated while fighting, but I'm sure that's fine. Okay, so maybe it could use a stitch or two (seeing as he won't take it easy and keeps opening it up), but compared to other injuries Vash has had in his life that's nothing! People are dying out there! There's no time to worry about a little gash on his leg when he should be doing something about that!

But besides the lying, that in his head isn't REALLY lying, he's a well behaved patient. Taking the shot and cleaning quietly, only really flinching when you get to his wing. That thing seems to be extra sensitive.

Law is very welcome to find any other cuts on Vash's body that he's labeled under "not a problem" as he's sure to have a few cuts and bruises here and there from trying to take on elites without killing.]

... [Taking a cursory look of that wound. Which got dirty in the fighting, treatment or not. ... are those ripped stitches?

...ffff... of course. Silly him. Of course they're ripped. Being Captain AND doctor of a pirate crew has taught him a few simple things about fighters and medical treatment.

You have about ten minutes top before you have to redo everything again. Because, face it, there is no such thing as taking it easy for those of the shounen persuasion.

(... nevermind he's just as bad when it counts. ...ssshhhh...)

At least you're being co-operative though. That wins you a few points in your favour.]

No, they're not, unfortunately. Especially with that wing clipped the way it is and sapping your strength along with the bloodloss. You're going to have to rest up a while before going back to the field.

[And with that, you are going to get an IV inserted in your arm and a bag of plasma hooked up to that line to help bring back up your total blood volume. Then once that's done with, he will be switching over to the packs of red blood cells to bring up your hemoglobin levels.

That and a hmmm as he catches sight of all the other wounds littering your body. He's going to have quite a bit of work once he finishes with that back laceration and redoes the treatment on the leg wound.]

How are things out there?
goldenglasses: Maker on LJ (But why?)

[personal profile] goldenglasses 2011-03-01 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[He'll rest up... for now. Because even he knows he'll be nothing but a handicap out there right now, but good luck keeping him there for more than MAYBE an hour.]

Could always be better, but I think we're doing alright. [But those poor Third Party members. :( So many dead.]
deathsdoctor: (Neutral and Serious | Pensive)

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2011-03-02 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
[... ohoho, already planning to rip open your stitches again, are we? And a clipped wing doesn't heal that fast. Going out too soon is practically courting death.

Right. Well, we'll see about that.]

Think?

[That is war, Mister Vash. You can't divorce death from it.

...

Moving onto that leg, after applying topicial antibotic cream and bandaging up that back wound.]

[But people are dying out there! No telling how many he could have possibly help in the hour he plans on giving himself already!

Hm... maybe thirty minutes would be better...]

Well, it can get chaotic, so it's hard to keep an eye on everyone.

[That and he's smart enough to know most of the people from Luceti aren't going to be happy to hear that he counts the death of the Third Party members as tragic. So he'll give you that for an answer. Even if it's not true, he's done pretty good keeping an eyes of those near him. Their forces don't seem to be doing too badly yet.]

[Really?

... you will only have yourself to blame if you end up being stopped embarrassingly. Like being restrained by just his pinky. And if certain priests and chefs should come by and see this?

Well, too bad.]

It's unfortunately like that sometimes. [Concentrating on cleaning out that wound. You will also notice the bag of plasma has been emptied and switched for the first of a few bags of red cells. Glancing up.] We can only do the best we can. [Pause. ... slowly as he listens to your tone and inflection.] I realise it is none of my business, but is something troubling you?

[He feels no pity for them. They have sent a steady stream of wounded his way. At the same time, he feels no hate for them either. They have not wronged him, and this is not a just war or a right war - it is certainly not a war either of them should be involved in. But they are and it is a war.

If there ever is a time to grieve, it is after when the dust settles, not now. That is the proper time to mourn the dead. Now, Mister Vash, is a time for the living and to keep living.]
goldenglasses: (And that one looks like a bunny!)

[M-maybe you won't notice! A-and they're too busy to stop by!]

It's nothing, I just... don't like fighting.

[Vash watches the care he's given dully, he's been stitch up enough that some of it is just procedure now. Just once again where he's done something foolish.

And he knows not to mourn the dead in the heat of battle, but as soon as that is over, there is always time to mourn.]
deathsdoctor: (Neutral | ambigious)

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2011-03-03 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Just keep telling yourself that.]

There's no shame in that. [You've got little pebbles stuck in this wound, did you know that?] This is not a business to be liked.

[Don't mourn too much. They were as much authors in their ultimate fate as the ones who claimed their lives. Painting them as any sort of victim in this is as much insult to them as to the ones fighting against them.

And as warriors they at least deserve better consideration than that.]

[This thread is going to get interesting after Vash rests for a bit isn't it?]

It really isn't. All this fighting and killing... and all for what?

[OW! He was saving that pebble for later!]
