[ once freed, she tosses the trap aside. ]

Yeah, there's no way you're walking on that. [ she surveys the damage. ] I'll be carrying you.

Beyond sure.

[ but she doesn't lift winry yet, she wants to have a peek at that shoulder. trying to figure out how to do this while causing the least amount of pain. but she knows -- pain's inevitable.

her own leg? the bite on her calf is already closing over, though it's hard to tell under the blood and ripped fabric. ] You don't have to worry, Winry. I'll get you back there -- you'll see. Bones'll be clucking over you like a stern-faced mother hen before you even know it.

[ she wraps an arm around winry's back. preparing. ]

W-wait. There were two more. What if they follow us back? What about the other people injured at the camp?

[ a soft oath, under her breath. if she were on her own? she would hunt these other two down and dispatch them quickly. but winry...she needs medical attention. she knows the shift hunters are attracted to the filial magic and perhaps they wouldn't track them by scent -- especially if they could find the camp by other means.

but it's not a risk she wants to take. ] We'll take a weird route. Try and throw them off -- and I'll listen. [ it's a partial lie. a strange route won't make a difference and while she will listen, buffy's first priority is getting winry back to help. ]

[ she lifts as gently and with as little impact as possible -- hugging the blonde to her chest.

buffy begins walking without even so much as a limp. ] If you need anything? Tell me.

[ she urges her gently. she's worried about the girl slipping into some sort of sleep. sleep's bad, right? she should keep her conscious. ] Tell me about your home-town.

It was... small. A small farming town. Everyone knew each other.

[ she picks her way through roots and vines -- occasionally turning for a step or two backwards if a particularly thick branch needs to be shouldered out of the way in order to keep from bumping winry around too much. ]

There were cows, but we didn't live on a farm. We did have chickens.

Already healed. [ it was only a little bit of a lie. she could feel small twinges in the muscle but she has certainly felt much, much worse. ] I patch up pretty good all on my own, Win. By the time we get back? There won't even be a scratch, I bet.

[ her voice is low; soothing. as winry cries, she holds the girl closer. protective and caring and she needs to find some way to reassure her. buffy walks faster. ]
