[Three heartbeats to give the Third Party time to react (but not enough time to think). Then, the moment he first glimpses the big-winged bastards, Kennedy fires his pistol at the remaining shell, herding them toward the trap. Feigning alarm at being so outnumbered, he made a show of abandoning the guns and ammunition and hoped to God that Shikamaru could run fast. He rips the end off the paper cartridge with his teeth and starts to reload his pistol as he runs.]

[They didn't call him the #1 at running away for nothing. Though it's as much jumping as it is running too, really, and with that it doesn't take long to gain on Kennedy at all and he runs alongside him.]

[Abruptly, he stops, gun loaded, uniform coattails swinging with the motion of his body as he spins and aims. The Third Party--a Shifter, two Elites, and several grunts--are headed toward the setup to investigate. Just a few more yards...]
