Ouch. Right. Got the bag. Right in the head. [He sets it on the floor beside him, along with the staff, and, more confident about her location now, reaches for her.]

Now I need the beauty.

[wise_maiden]

-- Right. I'll be right --

[The tear of the rope again. She jumps back as it starts to fall, managing a backflip as she heads downward. Will the pirate catch her?]

[Yes---somehow---he manages it, though his grip might be a bit rough. He doesn't want to drop her.]

Hear me now, darling: we? Are leaving this temple, together, you and I. No more fancy rocks; you know those Malnosso. They won't allow any treasure back to the village, will they?

[wise_maiden]

... No, I suppose not, but -- [She could have at least made some sort of copy, maybe. Not that it was anywhere within reach.]

we'll need to find a way out of it first. There must be an opening somewhere.

[The pirate set her down carefully, keeping hold of her hand. It wouldn't do to get separated in the dark.]

Perhaps we should listen for one...

[When he sets her down, Raine moves to lift up her bag again. She closes her eyes; not that it's much good in the dark, but there's something about the gesture that helps focus the other senses better. If only there wasn't a shifter nearby; that would make this a lot easier.] If we can get to a more open area... we just need to get a better feel of things. The air.

[Hand in hand in the darkness, Jack waits. A very slight breeze stirs his dreadlocks, and he turns his face in its direction. Perhaps...]

This way, love.

[wise_maiden]

... Don't let your guard down.

[But it was a start. To the left, was it? Perhaps there's a wall, or something further... a passage?]

Feels like a passage, mistress. [One hand on the damp, insect-covered wall confirms this.] If only we had a light...

[wise_maiden]

My magic still isn't working, but -- I might have something we can use in my bag. [She slips it open, carefully rummaging- aha.] Flashlights. And if that power for some reason doesn't hold out, we could resort to ordinary torches.

You had....right. [He takes one of the lights, clicking it on and sweeping the hall. They are indeed in a passage, and that passage is filled with...insects. And skeletons.]


...I don't like this passage at all, Raine.

Maybe flame would have been better. At least then we'd be able to see for certain... [Some of the insects seem attracted to the light, moving toward them] The air isn't much to desire in here, either. There's something wrong.

[all7seas]

[The pirate halts, still keeping a firm grip on her hand.] Shall we turn back?

[wise_maiden]

We still have time to look for another way. If there isn't we'll just have to try it.

[She's quiet for a moment. There's the sound of something approaching--crawling, slithering along the walls.]

[all7seas]

Raine, darling? Get behind me. If you please.

[What on earth is that SLITHERING?!]

[wise_maiden]

[It's a large, creepy, venomous snake, of course. Not close enough to be visible, even in the beams of light, but steadily approaching.

Raine does as the Captain says. Magic? No. Damn it.]

We need to get out of here.

[all7seas]

Aye---and then I need to bloody well behead whatever Shifter's keeping you from being all sparkly and magical and Sparrow's-life-saving.

[And then the snake comes in view of the flashlight and Jack is grabbing Raine's hand again and trying to force her to run in the opposite direction.]

Please do, I'm pretty useless like thi-- [Well he doesn't need to force her too much, even though he's probably quicker than her at the moment. The snake's still behind them, jaws snapping and missing as they begin their run.

At least with the flashlights it provides a better glow to the dark room-- there's a large hole in the center of the floor, smaller ones for the traps. Crumbled bits of wall everywhere. At least there's no time for getting excited again.]

[That hole looks familiar; just to be sure, Jack takes out his compass and wants with all his heart to be OUT of here. The compass slowly but surely points at the hole.]

I'll go first, eh? And I'll catch you, again. That's the way.

[wise_maiden]

Looks like we don't have much of a choice. [... But Jack's an ordinary human. Would he even be in a shape to catch her after that jump? But there's no time to worry about that now-- she'd be able to patch him up later if it wasn't the case.]

[all7seas]

[Jack is an ordinary human who is used to falling from high places. he'll manage.

The pirate, instead of answering, slips down through the opening. When he lands he will make sure to bend his knees and roll to absorb any impact. It's not a terribly long drop--perhaps about ten feet, in the end.

He gains his feet.]

Alright, darling.

[wise_maiden]

[That slithering is only coming closer. Not much time. What an abnormally large--]

My bag. Take it!

[And down it goes, before she prepares to lower herself from the edge as well.]

Raine, love---[He catches the bag and puts it aside.]---I'll need you now, dearest. You're a bit more important than those things, you know.

[And he is ready to catch her.]

[wise_maiden]

Without those things I can't do anything right now--

[But she'll stop talking and drop down, as the snake strikes out -- jaws squeezing tight over open air as she falls.]

Well done---and not even eaten by a snake. I'm well pleased with you darling.

[he sets her down and consults the compass again. It snaps toward the northeast almost immediately, as though Jack has never wanted anything more than to get OUT of this trap of a ruin.]
