Buffy Summers asked Jack Sparrow to meet her at the battle dome. It was a plan that had been discussed before the pirate had disappeared and now that he was back? Well -- she cared very little for dawdling. They had dawdled before but now was the time for seizing. She had yet to overcome the horror of waking up alone for yet another morning when she had expected to be the furthest thing from it.

People change. And Buffy mused quietly upon the changes to be found in Jack as she waited just outside the dome's entrance. She had a bag-o-weapons at her feet and a plastic bottle filled with some sort of over-sugared juice in her hand.

"Then let's leave it bloody far behind us." And he offered her his arm, still oblivious to what she had heard and not suspecting anything out of the ordinary.

"...So a picture, huh?"

She took his arm and lead the way faux-cheerily out of the room. A new subject for a new mood.

"Aye! Of you. A pretty, smiling picture of you. I want one, savvy?"

He tucked his arm close against hers and matched her for cheer and stride. Perhaps once they were out of this building, she would relax a bit more.

"You don't have a wallet to keep it in," she joked.

[all7seas]

"Then I'll have to find some other way to treasure and admire it, Buffy. You smiling and laughing. Yes. This."

[herotypical]

"I'll give one to you on one condition."

It was a condition she was going to regret, surely: "You're in charge of photography at Dawn's birthday party, when she comes back."

Oh good HEAVENS she was going to regret this so hard. So. Hard.

"DONE!"

[herotypical]

Regrets or no regrets, at least she'll be able to enjoy the festivities without stopping to wonder if she should take a picture of this or that. Though putting her trust in Jack's wonderings instead? Well. Well. It was about time he did a thing that earned him a stern shin-kicking.

"...And you can take your pick from those photos. Win-win."

"Then you'd best smile for me, Annie. No sad girl that day."

[herotypical]

"Be sad? At Dawn's big shindig? She'd have me killed."

[all7seas]

"Right well...we'll try to avoid it for all those reasons, shall we?" He scuffed a toe against the floor as they walked. "Buffy? How does one use a photograph-taking-thing?"

[herotypical]

"...Point and shoot, mostly."

[all7seas]

"Point and shoot? Well I'm very good at that, aren't I? And the bonus is that no one dies!


...No one dies, correct?"

[herotypical]

"...No one dies. Think of it like -- oh, okay. A telescope. But you can hit a button and it bam -- whatever you saw when you looked through the lens? It's saved. On a film."

"Then I'm good with it!"

[herotypical]

"...Make sure you get plenty of her, too. It's her birthday, after all."

"I'll get plenty of her, and plenty of you, and plenty of the two of you together, and more of you, and one of McCoy---hopefully not a terribly frowny one---and another of you, and perhaps...one of you and myself?"

[herotypical]

"...One of you and me, huh? Something frame-worthy?"

[all7seas]

"Hmmmm? 'Course it'll be worthy. And--"

And Jack shut up for a moment, because he was thinking of how comforting such a thing would be to have if Buffy was sent home. And then he was wondering if sent-home-people faded from such mementos. He linked his arm more firmly through hers, pulling her close.

"And I'll keep it right beside my bed," he finished quietly.

"You will, will you? You know -- you're taking to this whole relationship thing like a duck to water."

More easy, playful conversation to help her forget the voice she had conjured up from her memories.

"Ooooor I could wear it in a locket. It's what they're for, after all." Any mention that Buffy might have heard something strange had been forgotten.

[herotypical]

...It was difficult to decide on an approach to that statement. Casual agreement? Touched sentimentality? Or should she take it the way her gut took it -- the part of her that tried to prompt her to hold onto the actual locket. But she kept her arm firmly in his.

"...Duck. Water."

"There are ladies who would laugh in your face for such a statement, you know. Don't generalize. It's you I've taken to, Buffy Summers."

"...Does that mean I get to in turn laugh in their faces? Because I want some face-laughing out of this deal."

[all7seas]

"You are entitled to that, my love. Just no PUNCHING their faces. Savvy?"
