Most likely it was just as Bones had called it: a placebo.

She pursed her lips. "I guess it is. Y'know -- too much to ask."

She wished she hadn't said a thing at all.

McCoy switched off the tool with his thumb and looked at her. There he went again, fixated on that damn fear of his to the point where he overlooked everything else; and the important things too.

"... It's not too much to ask." He murmured. "There's gotta be a difficult one in the household -- and I guess that's me."

"Shh," she shushed him and placed a hand on his arm. This whole tender moment was probably utterly undermined by the fact that Buffy Summers was only half-dressed. Oh well. "We both know you're not the difficult one in at least 80% of all difficult situations."

At least she still had her top on. "Twenty percent? Hell, I think I can live with that."

"I'll get it to ten one day." And he switched on the dermal regenerator and started to heal her leg again.

"And leave me with ninety percent of the blame for everything? Cruel."

There was no mention of cutting Jilly into these numbers.

No mention of the artist at all. Jilly could do no wrong in his eyes… except for gallivanting outside in adverse weather conditions without wearing a coat. He could work on that though.

"A little suffering is good for the soul."
