A magic shirt. That lets you breathe underwater. [That is the stupidest thing he has-] Okay, sure, yeah, that makes sense.

I don't get it either, but it just saved my life, so I'm not going to complain.

[Right, don't look an ostrich horse in the mouth.]

At least you're not shark food. How long were you down there? [Sokka assumes Ed must have fallen off close to shore, otherwise he never would have caught up.]

Couple of hours. [He did fight a shark, though! Among other things. It was kind of cool, besides the whole covered-in-wildlife part. At least he'll have a good story for Al.] It's a lot slower, walking on the bottom.

[Still frowning, though. That's weird.]

Starving. Got any food on you?

[He's currently covered in sea life, but they're not exactly finger food variety.]

[He opens his purse bag and pulls out a wrapped up piece of jerky and tosses it over.]

If you want better than that, you'll have to go check the galley on the cargo ship.

No, this is fine. [He's eaten ants, jerky is hardy the worst thing to go into his mouth. He drapes his coat over a rock and flops down in the sand, holding the jerky in his mouth just long enough to roll up his sleeve and pant leg so the automail can dry in the sun.] Thanks.

[Good enough, then. Sokka will let Edward have his rest, while staying on guard in case any enemies show up.]

Don't mention it. Do you think the water will mess up your automail?

It's hard to tell. Automail's waterproof, but I've never had it underwater for that long before. Winry'll probably want to check it when I get back.

[Should've brought along a better maintenance kit or something, all he's got is some good oil. He prods at the leg, giving it a shake to urge some loose water out.]

[Sokka doesn't really have conventional tools on him, but he does have a screwdriver, a very handy utility knife, and a handy multi-tool he found at the store.]

Want me to take a look? I can at least make sure it's all screwed in tight.

[Edward glances sidelong at him for a moment, hesitant, then shrugs and offers his arm out. Sokka really is a back-up mechanic now, isn't he?] Fine by me. Just be careful with it, Winry'd have a fit if anything went wrong.

[Chomping down the rest of the jerky, he tucks his leg up to check the locking mechanism that Winry had installed, just to be sure it's still working well enough. It's taken him some time to get used to the new leg, even though it's almost the same as the old one, so he'll be glad to switch them back again.]

Yeah, yeah. Don't worry, I'm not going to break anything. Just watch my back, the battle isn't over yet.

[With that said, he kneels down in front of Ed, so he can start looking the arm over. He's no automail expert, but at least he can tell when something looks off. Worse case scenario, they go somewhere secure and give Winry a ring.]

[Edward nods, glancing out at the water once he's satisfied with the leg's functionality.]

Have any attacks happened since you got here?

[The first thing he does is using his knife to ease out some seaweed and other gunk that got stuck in the joints.]

A few. It looks like there's fighters in the woods too, so now we have to keep an eye on both directions.

[He might find a shark tooth or two in there as well.]

Great, because a bunch of forest ambushes is just what we need.

At least we're not isolated out here.

[Oh yeah... this shark tooth got lost in a gear. No damage done, except to the shark. Sokka yanks it out and holds it out.]

You want to keep this as a souvenir?

[Edward lifts a brow at it for a moment, then lifts his hand to take it from Sokka, examining it curiously.]

Guess I could use it in case somebody doesn't believe me.

[Not usually the nostalgic type, but eh. He punched a shark, it's pretty awesome.]

It's a good thing he bit this arm and not your other one. You'd be dead now, otherwise.

[Bleeding underwater in the ocean? Not a good combination.]

No kidding. If I lose any more limbs I'll start looking like a robot.

I think it's technically a cyborg. [What? He has a lot of time to read.]

I wouldn't know the difference, we don't have the kind of thing in Amestris.

Neither do we. I've just been in Luceti for way too long.

[He cleans out some other gunk from the automail, but aside from some harmless dents, it seems to check out.]

Looks like your arm is fine.

Good to know, thanks. [He gives the arm a thorough movement check, rolling his shoulder.] Feels better already.

Want me to check your leg? It probably got the worst of it. [At least, that's his guess, since he had to walk on it underwater.]
