[Ororo just nods grimly and moves to stand. She's not generally a fan of fleeing from a fight, but she knows better than to question anything at this point. In any case, she's about recovered enough to make a run for it, but... can they outrun them?]
herotypical: (} or just suck)

[ probably not. still -- buffy grabs the other womans hand and begins a desperate sprint down the beach. surely they need only get to gun crews by the ships!

ugh. she hates this sort of helplessness. it creates a knot in her stomach and it bruises her pride. ]

[Ororo picks up the pace as much as her body allows, thinking that if they put enough space between them, her powers will come back enough that they can get rid of those pesky Shifters already!]

[Of course, it doesn't work out that way. The ships are within their sight when the soldiers finally manage to catch up with them with alarming ease.]

... This could get a little messy.
herotypical: (} the world's your oyster shell)

i'll tell gav to hop in on the next tag!

Or a lot messy.

[ one shifter bears down upon the both of them, sword out-stretched. ]

[Norrington had heard by now of the exploding shot in use by the Third Party's warships. He had ordered the withdrawal of the gunner crews from the jetty and set them to deploy their canon a distance back to bombard the dock if the enemy attempted a landing. He had sent them all away. When he catches sight of the two woman fleeing toward the dock he has no men close at hand, no time to gather a force. He runs toward them at a sprint and reaches them just as closest Shift swings.

It is not flesh that meets that metal, but the long thin blade of the admiral's small-sword. Nor does he slash the offending edge away or stab its bearer in the confusion, opting instead to hold the swords together a third of the way up the shafts of each. The one hand not engaged in this clash draws the short sword from his hip and tosses into the sandy soil beside Ororo a foot or so behind him. There is no time for words.]

buffy > norrington > stormy, then?

[Norrignton's assistance is nothing short of surprising, almost miraculous. But Ororo wastes no time in questioning his sudden appearance, or thanking the Goddess for his good timing; she acts on instinct, taking the short sword he'd flung to her and engaging the nearest enemy.]

[She has never been so thankful for Logan's insistence that she learn how to handle a sword, "just in case". She's rusty, having had no need nor want to practice in recent times, but the combination muscle memory and the adrenaline pumping through her veins help remedy that.]
herotypical: [ sad ; neutral ] (✝ back into the end of harmony)

yep!

...James!

[ surprise? certainly. but she doesn't begrudge the man his timely entrance. ]

Shifters -- [ she explains. ] Colour me useless.

[identity profile] abidinglaw.livejournal.com 2011-09-04 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Coloured.

[He says by way of confirmation as his Shifter, quickly getting over the shock of his timely intervention, stabs down across the length of his sword in an attempt to skewer him in the chest. The end of the word is high pitched and loud, surprised, but the chancy move gives Norrington a levering advantage and after spinning his shoulder back he makes short work of the opportunistic attacker by sweeping his opponent's hilt away and thrusting the point of his blade into the man's neck. The shifter is stumbling backward in a grotesquely comic fashion when the admiral whirls back and steps between the two women. The step and the falling man combine to extract his sword.]

[Meanwhile, Ororo is handling herself - well, not poorly, but certainly with none of the finesse and coordination of Norrington's skill. She finds herself parrying and defending against her own Shifter's attacks, and can get none of her own in. It's frustrating, and makes her feel all sorts of useless, too.]

Me, as well. Is there any way to keep them from silencing our abilities?
herotypical: (✝ better than the first time)

If memory serves from the last time I faced any of these -- [ gasped between nearly on-mark attacks from the baddies that come so very close to skewering the petite blonde. ] They'll be fudging with us until they go down.

[identity profile] abidinglaw.livejournal.com 2011-09-05 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Get behind me for God's sake."

[After his prompt elimination of the one shifter the other two are staying out of his sword range and taking pot-shots at the two women. One distracts him, the other darts in for a jab. He doesn't want to stray too far from his charge in order to strike, but they are doing a damn good job of goading him into it.]

[identity profile] temperedtempest.livejournal.com 2011-09-06 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[As good as his intentions are, Norrington can't defend the two women and attack both attackers all at the same time! Ororo realizes this, and attempts to draw one away from him.]

[It works, for the most part. Until she's nicked in the shoulder from an ill-timed duck from her Shifter's feint, anyway. Were she in better health, she would've contained the soft cry of pain that it causes.]

[It does manage to make her angry, though, which only serves to fuel her resolve and sharpen her attacks.]
