Draft Log #3: During v. 2.0

[Derek nods, moving aside a little to allow Raine to sit next to him if she needs to. Examination will reveal a fractured bone in his right arm and jawline fracture, several feathers missing from his wings, and several more deep bruises over his chest and gut. These were the things he couldn't quite heal.]

I've seen quite enough of them.

[She gives a small smile, but looking over Derek's injuries take priority, and a more serious expression quickly takes it's place as she gets to work. The bruises are a concern, depending on just how internal those injuries are, but she can handle the fractures and give him a little more stability, though the missing feathers might interfere with just how refreshed he'll end up feeling. They'll need to grow back on their own.]

[Whatever had happened, it had been serious, and the wounds are the remains of broken bones and internal bruising that, in several cases, fell just short of ruptures. It had taken him a few hours of stop-and-start healing (and a lot of passing out) to get himself to a movable state and able to return. He'd only healed the cuts enough to stop the bleeding, too, and a few were starting to ooze open again now that his concentration had wavered a little.

Despite what was probably a lot of pain though, he was sitting quietly and patiently on the bed while Raine checked him out, keeping his gaze steady on a spot on the far wall.]

[She keeps track of all of the injuries she can note--the fact that he tried healing himself several times over is picked up on as well--and after helping him clean up, she steps back once more to speak to him.]

I'm going to finish healing you as best as I can, but I'm going to request that you stay put for a while. You're practically worn to the bone as it is.

[Derek hesitates, and it's pretty clear that he's ready to argue the point. But then, he relaxes, as if thinking better of it, and nods.]

How long?

Ideally, I'd want you to stay out of the battle tomorrow. [She gives him a stern look, but then there's a slight wryness to her tone as she tilts her head:] Realistically, I have a feeling that the most I can hope for is that you'll at least stay here during the night. What do you think?

[Derek hesitates, thinking.]

I'll stay for the night except for mealtime and if I'm called on. Acceptable?

... For now. But don't overdo it if you don't have to. I won't have you putting my hard work to waste. [That small faint smile again.] Ready?

Yes, ma'am.

[Honestly, it's hard to tell if he's agreeing with her request, or letting her know he's ready. Maybe both.]

[Whichever the case is, she closes her eyes to start preparing her healing magic.

The initial glow that washes over him will seal up those pesky surface wounds, at least, and he may start to greadually feel refreshed.]

[He does, although with the pain fading, it also makes him relax the iron control he had on himself so that he could make it back to camp in the first place. Which in turn changes to a genuine exhaustion from holding himself that tightly wound and from lack of sleep.

He's been working on a vampire hunter's hours and willpower, and now it's beginning to show without the wounds to distract him.]

[While this is happening to him, Raine next turns her energy toward the deeper injuries where the magic can still reach; those fractures. Those will take a little longer to focus on, as the bones need to be encouraged to mend at a much-faster-than-normal rate.]

[Derek will make a face when this happens, but he won't pull away. Weirdest. Sensation. Ever.

He resists the urge to lay down though, simply holding onto the stubborn will to sit where he is and stay still.]

[Eventually, the glow fades again, and she draws back, taking a moment to take a breath, before opening her eyes again to look him over.]

You doing all right, there?

[Derek nods, still feeling...well...weird...after all that. He doesn't feel anywhere near as beat up.

But he still wants a nap.

He'll look Raine over.]

Yeah. How about you? Gotta be tired after doing that sort of thing all day.

Oh, I likely have a few more people to check up on before I call it a night, but I'll be all right. [She shrugs a little, with a tired half-smile.] It is what it is.

[Derek will actually go ahead and lay down on the cot now. He's not ready to give in to the need to sleep just yet, but he did promise her he would try.]

Don't wear yourself down too much, Raine, all right? Need to take care of yourself, too.

Now get some rest, yourself. You'll be glad for it later.

[He'll offer one last smile before curling up on his side and falling asleep.]
