[He shakes his head.]

A few scrapes here and there, but I'm not so bad off. [He's being sparing about using any Filial magic, those hunters are around after all.] It's been a lot easier to get around this time out.

Good. Be careful though. Some of the soldiers pack a hell of a punch.

[He should know; he's gotten 'punched' a few times already.]

They've been doing flight patrols, too.

All the more reason to keep watching the sky, then. I've managed to avoid the worst of their 'punching' so far...

...Not sure if they're patrolling to find us, or keep their own borders secure.

It's hard to say without getting a better feel for what's out there... Now I'm tempted to go explore a little deeper.

Then we'd better get going now, while it looks relatively clear...

[Which is...probably a good thing.

Derek will nod and start off, heading further into the underbrush and doing his best to keep quiet while he does it.]

[Off they go. Mulder likewise moves into Stealth Mode, taking care where he steps. For a little while, all is pretty quiet and still... but then he glances abruptly to the side when he catches a sound.]

[Derek hears it too, and stops immediately, sinking as low as he can go to avoid being seen. No weapons yet. Might be an animal.]

[Mulder remains just as still and quiet, waiting...pretty much holding his breath at this point. It very well could be an animal, but he's tensed and ready for anything.]

[And now, it's the waiting game while those slight little rustlings sound around them, making the hunter tense ever so slightly.

Eventually, the rustler shows; it's a rabbit, of all things, foraging in the sparse grass under the trees.

Derek relaxes, standing.]

[Mulder breathes out a sign of relief, lowering his weapon from where he'd held it, all tense and wary. Hah, whew, that was a close one. Time to move along, now...]

[Yep, time to move. Which Derek will attempt...until one of the third party members lands silently between the two men.]

[Moving forwar- OH WAIT NEVER MIND. Mulder turns just in time to catch the one who snuck in, drawing and firing at the enemy, even as a couple more move in from where they'd been concealed by the surrounding trees.]

[Derek is apparently going for the more...direct route. As in, getting grabbed from behind and the grabbie trying to wrench a wing loose.

So he'll be busy over here, trying to smack himself and his new 'friend' backwards into a tree.]

[Mulder fires at the one bearing down on him, only to have another incoming from the side as a distraction. He takes another shot at the one ahead and the enemy finally goes down, giving Mulder just barely enough time to dodge the newcomer's attack.]

[Derek finally manages to get his hunting knife free and twists his arm around so that he can drive it deep into his opponents side. When the solider loosens his grip, Derek turns, getting better leverage, and drags the blade up through flesh as much as he can.

...this was so much easier as an infected person.]

[Yeah. A little superhuman anything would be helpful about now. Mulder fires again, this one only grazing the opponent, who flies in to make a fierce jab at him. Time to get defensive for a moment.]

[Another soldier tries his luck at trying to grab the hunter, but he avoids the attempt, bringing his sword around. Just before it slashes across the winged soldier's chest, electricity arcs across the blade and into the man.]

[Definitely going to have to work on more Filial magic when he gets back. For now, Mulder keeps himself focused on the counterattack, slamming an opponent against a tree with a well-aimed punch when the enemy gets a lot too close for comfort.]

[The enraged soldier again slashes at him, this time making a pretty deep jab into Mulder's shoulder area, before Mulder finally has a chance to fire a shot, point-blank.]

[Derek's still dancing around with his own 'partners'. He hasn;t drawn his gun yet, but when one of them grabs him by the wrist, he swings around, fingers curled and stiff as he thrust them into his assailant's eyes, digging in before pulling out.]
