[Derek nods, giving her a quick grin, He'll probably end up going for a combination of both; he needs the practice anyway, but there will probably end up being things he can't 'say' clearly.

At any rate, he chooses a spot that's near the camp, but protected from direct line of sight, stripping his shirt and weapons off and piling them on the sand before he wades in up to the waist. For someone who has obviously led a rough and violent life, if his fighting skills are any indication, he's surprisingly free of scars; other than a jagged line of a scar that follows his right hipbone and disappears under the waistband of his jeans, there's very little flaw to his skin to see, even when he starts rinsing off the blood and grime.

After a moment, he'll dunk himself completely under the water, doing his best to get the crap out of his hair as well.]

[Ginia unclips her weapons and removes her protective vest and the jacket underneath, setting everything carefully on the beach and keeping her guns out of the sand. She glances at Derek as he goes into the water, giving a glance over his body. Hey, no harm in admiring.

However, she won't be joining him in the water as now is not the time for a wet t-shirt contest and she has too many scars she'd rather not show off, though the one running up the inside of her left arm is visible now. She'll stay by the water's edge instead and crouch down to scrub water across her hands and face.]

[It'll take Derek several minutes, but eventually, he'll make his way back out, mostly clean of the grime he'd picked up while patrolling. He'll glance at Ginia's arm--just enough to note the scar--but then turns his attention to his shirt to get it clean. At this point, he's getting into a routine. Wade in, scrub down, get clothes, apply sand until most of the stains are faded are gone.]

Near the end of your shift?

[It doesn't take her too much time to wash off so Ginia is mostly enjoying the water and rare moment of peace as he wades back.]

/Should be done after I check in, then I have time to rest up and eat. You?/

The same.

[More or less clean now, he puts the shirt back on and sits next to her for a moment.]

Guess we could invade the mess hall together if you wanted.

/Wouldn't mind the company. Though don't think this replaces an Italian dinner./ [She teases, she teases.]

Oh no, you're still going to have to go to that.

[Tease all you want; Derek has determined that you will be fed. By him. So that will happen. But not here.

He'll stand up, offering a hand to her.]

Let's go report in so we can get some food.

/Good. When someone promises me Italian, I like to see that promise kept./

[Ginia takes his hand in her own and easily hauls herself up to her feet.]

/Give me a second to grab my gear and we can be on our way./

I keep my promises.

[Derek holds steady for her so that getting up is easier, and nods, letting go when she's got her feet.]

You report to Caesar or someone else?

/Good to know. And no, I've been reporting in to the captains./

[Ginia beds to pick up her weapons, attaching them back to her belt. Her vest comes back on, but she throws her jacket over a shoulder.]

/Ready to roll out./

Let's go, then. You first.

[he nods, gesturing for Ginia to lead the way this time. He'll follow quietly, both studying the camp around him and occasionally looking her over as well.]

[Ginia takes an easy, but brisk, pace back to the base. Wouldn't be good to get caught now, though any attack on them in such an open area would be risky. However, she remains alert and appreciates him watching her back for her.

She glances over her shoulder at him, then turns slightly to sign quickly.]

/You're good at this./

[Derek smiles a little, and signs back. Thay aren't that far from camp, but he's following the cue of staying quiet to avoid drawing attention.]

/Vampire hunter. Kinda goes with the job./

/Popular profession around here./

/You've met Buffy, then?

Yeah, we seem to be a favorite. Different worlds though, and different kind of vampires. And hunters on my world don't get all the nifty gifts./

/We talked once. I'm much better acquainted with Giles./

/Giles is a good man. We've had some pretty good conversations/

[Not to mention that they always seem to find themselves getting into trouble together.]

/You know he plays guitar too, right?/

/He is. I've had some good conversations too. Hell of a fighter./

[Trouble and Giles - his whole apartment - seem to go hand in hand.]

/I do. Sings too./

((ooc; Mentioned it to Hickumu, he'd definitely be on board with the idea.))

/He's a good man to have at your back./

[Heck, Derek and Giles don't even need the apartment. Some open space and even a hint of vampires or other monsters, and it's on...]

/Definitely. During the whole Battledome malfunction, we took on vampires together. My first lesson in staking a vampire from an ex-Watcher./

[There's fondness in her words and a small smile as she thinks back on the memory.]

/Yeah. Same thing happened with us./

[Derek notes the smile. So she likes him. Good to know. He'll have to watch where he steps, then, out of respect for the situation.]

/He can probably teach you a lot./

[She wouldn't go so far with liking. Well, yes, certainly as a good friend, and he is an intelligent and attractive man that enjoys tea, but simply friends. He's much older anyways. Hm.

Ginia quickly pushes all of those thoughts aside.]

/I don't doubt that. It's why I asked him to teach me how to fight with a sword./

[Derek may or may not realize that in the future, but for now, all he has to go on is the smile when she talks, and he's learned to step back when he sees it on someone's face. It'll work out however it'll work out, but he doesn't want to be the one in the way.]

/Always learning, huh?/

/I like to stay busy./

[Says the person learning archery, how to fight with a jitte, learning filial magic, offering to train one person in self-defense, taking piano lessons, working regular shifts at Seventh Heaven, and performing some nights at Cloud Nine.]

((ooc; For the record, Giles and Ginia getting together is something that's been discussed and what we're shooting for, but the journey is half of the fun and what happens happens. At this point, they are just friends with mild fondness and attraction to him on her side, but not pursuing anything.))

/That will certainly keep you busy. Don't know when you'd sleep, though/

((OOC; Oh no, that's fine, and I'm good with that. Derek right now is dealing with essentially missing a good chunk of his own emotional...health...and he's in the process of withdrawing because of it, so he'd find any excuse to keep people at a certain distance. He really is just reacting to that smile, and even if he was 'healthy' that way, he;d probably still be careful about something like that anyway. So please don't take it as him/me trying to push you/ginia in either direction. I'm just letting his messed up butt react to what he sees...or thinks he sees.))
