Draft Log #3: During v. 2.0

[(Un?)Luckily, a few of the Third Party are landing, taking advantage of the distraction caused by their brethren getting their feathers handed to them. Kazooie doesn't even notice one until she gets an intimate introduction to a rusty sword just below her Filial wing.

She lets out a rather ear-piercing draconic squawk and instantly spits fire in the Third Party member's face, but now there's a really horrible-looking deep indent in her back... and it hurts.]

[Hearing her new friend's sound of pain (she doesn't actually recognise Kazooie...), Grune doesn't take even a moment's break. She immediately starts casting another spell after she's finished yet another Bloody Howling. This time, the lights beneath her feet are blue and white.]

[talontrot]

[Kazooie doesn't notice the spell difference until she turns back and sees that the lights aren't their usual black. Still retaining presence of mind despite the pain and the fact they're in the middle of battle, she asks, a question without the usual bite (whether it's the fact she's suffering or the fact Grune is so deep in thought isn't clear):]

... Gruney, what're you doing?

[Grune is a little too busy to reply right now, but soon enough, Kazooie has her answer:] Aqua Laser.

[Light briefly appears around Grune's body, and then the Third Party soldiers on the ground have a wall of water taller than Grune racing towards them to smash into them.]

[talontrot]

[... Holy crap that is a lot of water. Kazooie squawks loudly in surprise and, well, something close to admiration as that wave sweeps the Third Party members off their feet. Seriously, who expects water out of literally nowhere?]

... Man, Gruney... you have some pretty awesome magic.

[May as well help out. An Ice Egg volley is going to freeze a few of those hapless Third Party members in place in the water... which, uh, may end in drowning or at least being buffeted around a lot.]

Oh, thank you. Your magic is very nice, too.

[Oh, my, that soldier is getting a little bit close. She goes back to casting Bloody Howling.]

[talontrot]

[And the Bloody Howling nails the one that had nearly gotten close enough to flank them.

But there's another one. It's close, too close to do anything but -]

Gruney!

[There's about two seconds to react. Kazooie does the ridiculous thing and quite bodily gets in the way, protecting Grune almost before she's aware of what exactly she's doing. The Third Party member gets a razor-sharp beak-tip embedded in her thigh; she stumbles back enough for Kazooie to interpose herself better between the two.]

Leave her alone!

Bloody Howling.

[That takes care of that soldier. But now Grune is getting a little worried. If she's not careful, Kazooie is going to hurt. She's going to try to cast her spells even faster now.]

[talontrot]

[That's probably not going to bode well for Grune eventually... But luckily, they've managed to cut down most of the soldiers.

There's only the one left, an Elite, in a terse standoff. Kazooie still hasn't moved from her position, staring angrily down her beak at the Elite.]

You got two seconds to get outta here before I turn you into hamburger.

[She's not making that threat idly. But it's unlikely the Elite is going to listen.]

[Especially not when, after calling out, "Good luck!", Grune starts casting again. Aqua Laser, coming soon!

…There's definitely going to be an Orange Gel in her future.]

[talontrot]

[The Aqua Laser washes around Kazooie's sides, flooding the area in front of them and sending the Elite back. But the Third Party member stands her ground, and instead shifts to a more attack-based mode.

Kazooie takes advantage of the few seconds they have to spare, Kazooie charges forward and aims an Ice Egg at the surface of the water where the Elite's legs meet. If her aim is good, it'll freeze her legs in place a few seconds, which might give Grune a chance to cast something else.]

[Grune is working on yet another Bloody Howling, but it'll be a race to see whether she can finished casting it before the Elite frees herself.]

[talontrot]

[She just barely manages to make it; the Elite gets free - with a comedically loud broken-glass-esque sound effect as the ice breaks - only to be hit dead-on with a Bloody Howling.

Only moments later, Kazooie's Grenade Egg follows it, and the Elite collapses bodily into the remaining water.

... It's not certain if they've won just yet.]

[Grune looks around to see if anyone else is coming. She doesn't see anyone, but that doesn't mean much, given it's her.]

Oh, my, are we finished?

[talontrot]

[Kazooie shakes the water out of her feathers, slicking her crest back with a wing before trotting through the sandy puddles over to the Elite's form.]

I dunno. Usually when a guy falls over and stays that way, you're done.

But these ones are different. [She pokes the Elite with a talon.]

Psst...she's a dragon right now. No feathers.

Are they? [She wanders a little closer to take a look.]

... D'oh. Did it again. 8[ </already did that with Eggman's thread...> DERP.

[talontrot]

[Ignoring the fact that the mun just failed there...

Kazooie tilts her head further, studying the prone form.

... Luckily, this one seems to be down, but just to make sure...]

This is gonna be a little gross, but...

[And Kazooie breathes her magical cartoon fire on the Elite - the fire that somehow works fine in rain - and the corpse goes up in flames.

... Yeah, unpleasant.]

XD It's okay. I do this kind of thing allllllll the time.

[Grune doesn't react, even when a passing gust of wind blows the truly horrible stench into her face. She simply stands and watches blankly.]

I think it's because I have a bunch of tags that are from post-draft...

[talontrot]

[The smell of burning corpses is always horrible, and it's not one that Kazooie is used to. Non-cartoons behave so... strangely.

... She's unsettled. More than unsettled, really. It shows in the depths of her green eyes.]

... Right. Let's... get outta here, Gruney.

...And I have no notifs. -_-;

[There's a delay to all of Grune's reactions now. When she finally replies to Kazooie, her words are obviously automatic.]

All right.

[She follows her, after a pause.]

Ffff... better now?

[talontrot]

[And Kazooie retreats from the horrifying mess they made, back to the relative safety of the cargo and the normalcy that's there.

... She may not display it very much, or even let herself think about it too long, but the draft isn't as easy for her as she makes it seem.]

... Figures that there isn't anywhere to clean off this junk...

So far. *knocks on wood*

[Grune still sounds a little distant when she says:] You could go for a swim.

[talontrot]

... I could do that, yeah. Think we both should, really.

[Kazooie stops a moment, hesitating, before very gently - for her - touching the tip of a membranous wing to Grune's arm.]

... We'll be fine, Gruney. We're heroes. Tough guys.

[lostinmyway]

[Grune blinks, then looks down at Kazooie.] Oh, of course we'll be fine. Everything always turns out right in the end.

[talontrot]

Yeah. That... that's how it always works for us main-character types. [She smiles, weaker than usual.] We always come out of stuff okay.
