Luceti Town Meeting Cycle Year 5

What: Town meeting
When: February 6th at 6 PM
Where: The school cafeteria
Summary: The village gets together for a town meeting. Let there be ideas, plans, and future festivities.
Rating:
With the help of some friends and friends of friends, the school cafeteria has been transformed into a meeting space. Rows of chairs and a few benches fill the space, providing adequate seating for whoever wishes to come to the meeting.

Along the back are some tables set with cookies, pastries, and tea, juice, and coffee for people to munch and sip on, before, during, and after the meeting

By the entrance is another table. On it sits a locked box with a slit on top, small sheets of blank paper, and a few pencils and pens. This is the message box, for anyone who wishes to express an idea or thought in an anonymous manner. The box will later be opened and all the messages inside will be read out loud by Ginia.

At the front sits a platform - one of the ones built for A Midsummer Night's Dream - with a table and chair resting on top. It's where Ginia will sit during the meeting, the extra height for the purpose of being able to see anyone who may be seated in the back row.

Idea - Winter Wrap Up

[Luna waits until there is a slight lull before raising her hoof (and her voice). It would be rude to interrupt the hewmons, as they have had some very interesting (and fun!) ideas so far.]

Fellow villagers, if we could have your attention!

We would like to propose a community holiday, a yearly tradition in our homeland of Equestria. Since winter is nearing its end here in Luceti - and because where we are from it is our responsibility to help turn the seasons - that which we wish to propose is the Winter Wrap Up celebration.

We have heard much of how it is celebrated in Ponyville, which varies from the formal ceremonies we are most used to. [She switches and holds up her other hoof as she explains.]

There, ponies are divided into three teams based on tasks they are to complete! These teams are of weather, plants, and animals. The weather team are those in charge of clearing the sky of clouds, shoveling away the snow, and scouring ice so that it will melt all the faster. The plant team... they are the ones who carry out the plowing of fields and planting of crops and gardens. As for the animal team, those are the ponies who guide the birds back to their nests, who awaken the creatures who hibernate the winter through, and who fashion new nests for the returned fowl.

...We do realize this would call for adjustments to accommodate other creatures and hewmons, and we would welcome such. We feel it would encourage teamwork and togetherness. And... we also think it would be an enjoyable occasion.

That said, we must insist that no magic be used in such a celebration, for it is tradition in Ponyville to carry out Winter Wrap Up in the manner of the Earth Ponies. By hoof! [A pause as she considers.] ...By paw, and by... hand?

[He hands it to her. And he may as well carry it around, an underwater breathing apparatus does one no good if one doesn't have it around when they need to go underwater!]

"It's standard-issue equipment for the Jedi Order, but as I said, I've only been able to find the one."

[Sokka catches a glimpse of it at one point.]

... apples. Just what the village needs, huh?

[Obi-Wan will immediately begin putting things away and helping to clean up, but if anybody approaches to talk he'd stop and be sociable. He's a friendly guy.]

Not a bad idea! You should learn how to make donuts while you're at it! I hear they love those too!

[He's not entirely happy with the result, but it shouldn't be hard to find the plans. He can run them by Zuko later.]

Yeah. I'll put some stuff together.

[Albert responds even as he finishes with the newest addition to the grocery list.]

Something we actually have in decent supply. Good evening, Sokka -- planning any announcements today?

[He shrugs.]

Not really. I just figured I'd see what's going on. You know, responsible member of society and stuff.

[chikaidestroyer]

Indeed. It seems there are worries that the village is not prepared for an invasion. It would have been ... irresponsible for me not to observe this discussion. [He expected an extension of the discussion that had made its way over the journals.]

[markofthewise]

[He almost says 'do they know something we don't?', but it's pretty reckless to just assume the village is safe.]

They seem to have a lot of ideas for what to do about it. [Not all of them are new.]

[chikaidestroyer]

[Most of them are not new. He nods in agreement.]

It seems so. Now it's a matter of them presenting their ideas and garnering the necessary support for their plans.

[He wonders what success, if any, will be derived from this meeting.]

[markofthewise]

[He nods at that. For one reason or another, all those old ideas didn't go through. He wonders if-

A thought suddenly pops in his head:]

Are we old, jaded and bitter now? [He doesn't imply this to be a bad thing. Old people are kind of awesome.]

Perhaps not bitter, but old and jaded would not be far from the truth. A balanced society, idealists and realists, optimists and pessimists. [...] Imagine how stagnant, jaded, and bitter the outside world must seem, with those trapped in this world endlessly.

[Well, Albert answered that more seriously than he expected. Well then.]

... well, when you put it like that. For all we know, it's all a big vicious cycle. In twenty years, you and me will be experimenting on the newbies.

[Tear made it a high priority to attend this meeting ever since the announcement was made last week. Though she's worried about Luke, those who did not know her very well would only see a young woman determined to help in whatever way she can, paying rapt attention to each person attending.]

[It's a bit strange to be having a serious conversation while half paying attention to a grocery list, but he is a Silverberg.]

If we are here and have not been sent home, quite possibly. Strange to think, is it not?
