Luceti Town Meeting Cycle Year 5

Who: Everyone!
What: Town meeting
When: February 6th at 6 PM
Where: The school cafeteria
Summary: The village gets together for a town meeting. Let there be ideas, plans, and future festivities.
Rating:
With the help of some friends and friends of friends, the school cafeteria has been transformed into a meeting space. Rows of chairs and a few benches fill the space, providing adequate seating for whoever wishes to come to the meeting.

Along the back are some tables set with cookies, pastries, and tea, juice, and coffee for people to munch and sip on, before, during, and after the meeting

By the entrance is another table. On it sits a locked box with a slit on top, small sheets of blank paper, and a few pencils and pens. This is the message box, for anyone who wishes to express an idea or thought in an anonymous manner. The box will later be opened and all the messages inside will be read out loud by Ginia.

At the front sits a platform - one of the ones built for A Midsummer Night's Dream - with a table and chair resting on top. It's where Ginia will sit during the meeting, the extra height for the purpose of being able to see anyone who may be seated in the back row.

POST-MEETING SOCIALIZING

[And it's over! Feel free to talk with your fellow villagers about what might have been discussed, recruit a few people for your plants, eat more cookies. Mingle, mix, have fun.]

[You know what's relieving? Being done is relieving. Once the meeting is over, Ginia takes a few minutes to gather up all her notes and return them to her bag before she begins to socialize. Thanking everyone for coming, following up on a few ideas, grabbing a cookie and enjoying it in peace as she peruses her notes. Feel free to catch her at any point.]

pssst--! 'Nia. Ginia. Oi.

[Lupin draws near her on quiet feet, picking his way through the crowd with an easy grace. He's sober now and, though he still had a dull headache, his thoughts were clear. The coke he kept on hand ensured that his thinking would stay straight, but also act as a cover--he realized he was acting like he was on one of his jobs again, deflecting attention from one thing to another. With what he wantd to tell her though, any front was helpful.

He did tell Tanaka he'd be discreet, after all.

He lightly touches her arm to further grab her attention. Drawing near, he speaks sotto voce over her shoulder.]

You were looking for an independent, unmonitored alarm system? [He's smiling.] I think I might know of something that would help you.

[Ginia is just wrapping up a conversation when Lupin comes by. She takes a small sip of her drink as she listens to him, then turns toward him and offers his hand.]

So good to see you, Lupin. Come, walk with me.

[Without waiting for him to follow, she'll set out toward a table, one further to the back. She smiles and laughs as she walks, thanking people for coming, holding short conversations all the way over there. Once she reaches the table, she takes a chair on the far side and smiles back at him.]

I'm listening.

[He takes a seat across from her and, saying nothing, places his cellphone on the table. The clamshell is open, and the strange text message conversation he had with an almost anonymous stranger around Christmas cued up... It happend just before Fujiko disappeared, he realized not a little bitterly. He pushes it toward her.]

Read through that, and tell me what you think.

[Ginia looks over the conversation, brow knitting in thought. That does explain the strange message she'd seen on her phone, much after the fact. She hadn't replied, because despite curiosity, training taught her to never reply to strange messages, especially when they came to a phone with a number known by few.]

Very interesting. I'm curious how many people around have cellphones and the number of people this reached.

Me too. Whatever the device, I've discovered it needs to be Bluetooth-enabled, so it can't be one of those old school bricks. [He shrugged, and pocketed the cell. He usually had the same reservations, but the relative isolation of Luceti left him liable to jump at anything that struck him as useful, despite the potential danger. The Dollars, whomever and whatever they were, could be very useful in the right circumstances.]

...It shouldn't be too hard to figure out how Tanaka did this, especially since messaging like this is all the rage in Europe. How else do you think those flash mobs form at a second's notice?

It would certainly be useful, though unless everyone has a cellphone, there's still a good portion relying on word-of-mouth. Fine if there's enough time to plan, but not during an emergency.

However, props to the person who figured it out. This could definitely be something.

[Zenigata meanders up at some point, sipping on coffee and nibbling a few cookies]

Hey Ginia. This was a pretty good idea, you know? Feel like we got a lotta good stuff talked about.

[Ginia smiles over at Zenigata and offers a nod of her head.]

I'm really happy there was a good turn-out. Now it's a matter of moving ahead and turning some of this plans into action.

[Once the meeting is over, Rydia doesn't make any move to rush right out. She lingers, helping clean up if necessary, and heading over to chat with anyone she didn't catch before the meeting started.]

[Archie will be collecting notes on new and potential crew members, but won't be doing a lot of sticking around. Unless he's caught deliberately right after the meeting, he'll be gone.]

M--Mister Kennedy.

[It's barely said. He's still wary of the Navy figures in this town. Too much possibility of being considered a deserter, but. Jilly has spoken of the man. And well.]

I-- Excuse me, Mister Kennedy.

[Archie isn't even wearing his uniform. He's tucked his notes under one arm and turns at Hollom's voice.]

Mr. Hollom?

I-- I have some knowledge of sailing, Mister Kennedy. [Not a damning admission, really.] I... would be of little use in general, I fear, but... I am able to cook.

If your Britannia must go to sea and... you have no one else to feed your crew... I would be willing to help in that regard.

[Nervous, almost skittish.]

Of course! [Trying to stay professional but not cold.] Thank you, Mr. Hollom.

Thank you. I-- would like to help. If I'm needed.

[If it comes, he'll mention the risk. Taking a Jonah on board. But... better to at least offer than leave them with no one to feed their crew.]

[Obi-Wan will immediately begin putting things away and helping to clean up, but if anybody approaches to talk he'd stop and be sociable. He's a friendly guy.]

[ Sup Obi-wan! Helios is going to be helping out too so you can just watch him as he probably isn't paying attention to where he's going and will walk into things. Oh whoops who put that chair there? ]

[Fortunately, Obi-Wan has mastered the potent Jedi art of 'seeing that guy about to trip on a chair and pulling it out of the way before he can.'

A very valuable art, that.]

[ You have such useful skills Obi-wan. Helios should really pick up that Jedi art, really, he should. Helios still stumbles a little and laughs sheepishly. ] Oh! Hah th-thank you. I-I should really pay more attention where I'm going.

[ Just a smile. ]

[He flashes the easy grin again. Relax, friend.]

"It's no trouble. I understand the... distractions that can plague a place like this."

[He raised an eyebrow.]

"Besides, two weeks ago I accidentally jumped over a building, so who am I to criticize?"

Luceti does tend to lend itself to being...distracting. [ Helios smiles looking around before his eyes widen at that statement. ]

You...jumped over a building? [ A laugh. ] That's rather amazing!

Debatable socializing is a go! ... Again.

[... And that was the meeting.

Well. That was... awkward.

Robert is kind of proud of himself for dealing with this as well as he did. Luceti really has changed him, hasn't it? He never would've been able to stick around for something like this before.

It is nicer when people are mostly leaving, though...

... Still, Robert won't go home immediately. He'll spend time reflexively cleaning up (yes, maybe even after your character) and perhaps talking with a few of his friends before he heads back home.

This is good practise for dealing with S.H.E.L.L. later, isn't it?]

Though it could've used some more liveliness. Everything could.
