Luceti Town Meeting Cycle Year 5

Who: Everyone!
What: Town meeting
When: February 6th at 6 PM
Where: The school cafeteria
Summary: The village gets together for a town meeting. Let there be ideas, plans, and future festivities.
Rating:
With the help of some friends and friends of friends, the school cafeteria has been transformed into a meeting space. Rows of chairs and a few benches fill the space, providing adequate seating for whoever wishes to come to the meeting.

Along the back are some tables set with cookies, pastries, and tea, juice, and coffee for people to munch and sip on, before, during, and after the meeting

By the entrance is another table. On it sits a locked box with a slit on top, small sheets of blank paper, and a few pencils and pens. This is the message box, for anyone who wishes to express an idea or thought in an anonymous manner. The box will later be opened and all the messages inside will be read out loud by Ginia.

At the front sits a platform - one of the ones built for A Midsummer Night's Dream - with a table and chair resting on top. It's where Ginia will sit during the meeting, the extra height for the purpose of being able to see anyone who may be seated in the back row.

The Filial magic, yes? How to contact the spirits and learn from them, or is what you taught back in your home applicable here as well?
folklorist: (Rather a good listener)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-08 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Filial magic, usually. I, ah, teach it one on one for anyone who wants to do so privately. I-I've only helped a few people so far. Giles, Ginia...Frederic as well. [ Oh man the memories. ]

B-But people have been able to learn my magic as well. I-I think it depends on their world's own mechanics however. Frederic was able to learn from my books a-and Giles... [ he just pauses. Remember the three times the other drained his magic the second and third times being the most horrifying of the three. ] ...he, ah, c-could learn it as well.

[Ah, of course Giles. She didn't know what gave Helios pause, and while he was adverse to contact she couldn't help reach out and brush his elbow with her hand. Fleeting, but an awkward attempt at comfort. For whatever reason, he seems to need it.] I do not think the mechanics of my world would be conductive to the magic of yours, Helios but...would you be able to teach me something of Filial magic? If you have the time.
folklorist: (Peaceful: You wanted to talk?)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-08 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Helios wasn't expecting the brush to his elbow but he manages to not flinch or pull back as much. ] I'd love to. I'm never opposed to such an offer. But, ah, I'm glad you asked me to help you. It-it means a great deal.

[ He smiles back at her before going back to straightening out one of those chairs. ]

...One day I hope we know each other well enough that we could discuss. This. [She nods to his flinching elbow, but turns to help him set up the chairs.] You are too kind and forgiving a man to live with such stress, Helios.

[Another branch, another observation, but after that she lets the subject die.] I am equally glad that you're willing to teach me, especially after how...I think the proper term would be 'bitchy', yes? That I've been considering magic in the past.
folklorist: (Peaceful: You wanted to talk?)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-09 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Helios' smile turns a bit sadder at that. If only it were that easy. In retrospect it is and in truth the only one who knew was Giles and he's gone now. Talking usually helps but there's always that gut wrenching fear that Nero will show up and find out somehow. It's the consequences of such a situation that make Helios freeze up and never speak about it. ] Y-You think so? You m-might be right.

[ Helios bows his head and goes to setup another chair. ] It's...a lot to take in. You've certainly nothing to apologize for in terms of your thoughts about magic. L-Lots of people in my own world have the same opinions to be honest. It's, ah, why I made my school. But I'm glad you're willing to give it a shot.

[She snorts.] In this? I am certain. Take the compliment Helios. [Low, faintly teasing.]

I must accept the reality in which I live. This reality includes magic, magic that I am capable of learning given enough time and work. If it will help me with my patients...[She goes a little somber, eyes going distant.]...if it can help me keep you and Ginia safe? Then it is a worthy pursuit. I'll not be helpless and idle in a crisis again Helios.
folklorist: (I'm just your average headmaster yep)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-10 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He bows his head just a little. Is it obvious he isn't used to compliments? Yes, yes he still isn't quite used to it, even being here. ] Alright, Alright. I take your word for it. [ Just a slight teasing back. ]

Then I...I'll gladly help you Adele. In any way I can you'll learn filial magic if I have any say about it. [ He sounds optimistic and for once slightly more chipper than he has the past week or so. ]
fleurdesel: left, smile, smirk (Ignore my smugness)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2012-02-10 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
As you should. When a LeBlanc compliments someone? It is not idle flattery, it is fact. [She chuckles and combs back a loose curl, smiling up at Helios.]

Thank you, Helios. Truly. I will be an open-minded and inquisitive student, at least as much that you can stand. [Setting her wariness of magic aside, no. Letting it go, rather, it brings Adele no small joy to know she's managed, just a little, to cheer Helios.]
folklorist: (Peaceful: You wanted to talk?)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-11 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Yes. And you can never go wrong with facts can you? [ Just an amused tone of voice as he says that. ]

Those are the students I typically enjoy teaching. And I'll try to be an attentive teacher as well. [ It goes both ways after all. Learning and teaching are both tightly threaded into the other so, it'll be an effort for the both of them. ] As long as we both try our best I'm sure you'll be an expert in no time at all. Your background as a surgeon will certainly help with Nala.
fleurdesel: right, smile, smirk, serious (Well that's interesting)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2012-02-11 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I've no doubt you will be an excellent instructor Helios. [She's entirely serious in this assertion, a headmaster would know the craft, know how to teach, and already being familiar with magic? Helios would be able to explain it to those unfamiliar with the concept without much difficulty.]

Nala may help me with my surgeries here. It would be more effective to heal with magic, here, in the small pinpoints of vital tissue and nerves than trust the body to do it on it's own, or leave it to sutures, yes?
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-12 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'll certainly try to be. But, ah, thank you. I've no doubt you'll be an excellent student. [ Helios nods his green eyes ticking to his injured hand, fleetingly, before he looks back at her with a smile. ]

Yes. That's correct. S-Small cuts and bruises are easy when you start. When you get better you-you can even heal larger things even help m-mend bones. [ He's had experience with that at least. ]
fleurdesel: right, tired, sad (You called for me)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2012-02-12 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Bones as well? That would be an invaluable skill, we do not have the luxury of waiting for them to mend themselves as much as we would in a proper hospital. That is something I would most certainly strive to master. [Especially with all the whispers of war, invasion, and drafts that have been running in a constant undercurrent in the journals since the meeting's announcement.]
folklorist: (Do go on I'm listening)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-12 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I-I've managed to h-heal up a few smaller ones yes. I'm not so sure how well it works with larger bones like the femur o-or hip or ribs. B-But I think with daily treatment one can probably speed up the mending process considerably when using Nala.
fleurdesel: left, sad, serious, angry (I know I was wrong)

[personal profile] fleurdesel 2012-02-12 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
With sufficient knowledge of Nala's limitations and the human body, it would be most effective no matter the application. I just hope I can calm myself enough to contact her without imagining I"m having a psychotic break down this time.
folklorist: (I'm just your average headmaster yep)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-02-12 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Helios gives her an encouraging smile. ] I think you'll be able to do just fine. And if I can help it, that won't be the case at all. Meditation usually helps beforehand. Robert, you remember him from the other day. H-he too comes from a world without magic. And even he...even he has contacted Nala before. I think you'll be able to do it just fine with enough practice and help anyone can contact them. That much I am certain of.

Between you and Ben I should spend half my day meditating, apparently. [She chuckles, shaking her head. Meditation. Clearing the mind. Purging herself of extraneous thought. She doubted that would come easy to her, but...perhaps with time and study.] If another from a world without magic can manage, I may very well be able to as well. It is just...a question of being in the right mental state. At the time I wasn't terribly composed, I'm afraid.
