Canon AU Event Log

Who: You! And you! And you! But uh, not you.
What: Event shenanigans.

Can I see your hand? [Never mind he made it clear he didn't want to be touched.]

[Vivi nods, somewhat baffled by this abrupt change in topic, but offers Sanji--Jixsan?--her hand, palm up.]

[What Jixsan does next is odd - certainly nothing Sanji would do without jumping hoops and asking permission - but the Nobody wastes no time in taking Vivi's hand and placing it straight over his chest, holding it there, where the heart should be beating underneath.

... Should be.]

[The action is perplexing, to say the least. Vivi lets him take her hand and press it to his chest, not resisting in the least, though she's unsure what this is supposed to accomplish. Then, slowly, it dawns on her. Her eyes widen and flick from her hand to his face and back again, concern plain on her face.]

[It's easy to tell when she gets the hint, and satisfied, he releases her hand, stepping back again. His expression hasn't changed at all]

In order to create a Nobody, the original has to die first, attacked by these things called Heartless. [His tone is meticulous, straightforward.]

Though you could say Sanji didn't really die, in the natural sense - just split into different beings. [he touches his chest] I just got the body. No heart, no emotions. [A shrug] I'm the leftovers.

[It's a lot to take in, and half of it is still more a confused jumble in her head than anything useful. It's clear that Sanji doesn't just believe he's someone else, though; the portal of darkness and lack of heartbeat leave no doubt that he actually is this other version of Sanji. Jixsan. Vivi's just not sure what to do with that information yet. Really, she's somewhat at a loss that he seems so very different, yet appears to be just as familiar with her as always.]

[She nods, slowly.] ...Jixsan-san. [She repeats the name to try it on her own tongue.]

Heh. You certainly catch on quick. [In his defense, he's trying to lighten the mood with some humor, even if it falls a little flat. If nothing else he doesn't need to worry about Vivi calling him by any other name.]

[Vivi takes a step back and sits unceremoniously at the foot of her bed.] We were worried about you. Nami-san said--

[She cuts herself off to glance at her bedroom door. Should she tell the others he's here? The fact that he came to Vivi's window seemed to indicate he'd intended to speak to her alone, but why her?]

Aa-- that's right. [He simply shrugs at that, not particularly bothered by the comment about Nami] I forgot I'd seen her first. [After a second's pause, he takes a leisured stroll around her bedroom, only stopping to give Pumpkin more attention]

I've never lived here before.

[She won't argue that--he's a different Sanji, so it seems to follow that his memories will contradict hers. It makes even less sense to her that he'd come here in that case, though. And he certainly seems familiar with Pumpkin, too.]

Then...why did you come? [Out loud, it sounds more accusatory than she meant, and Vivi hastens to amend it.] I'm glad you did! But... [She trails off into uncertainty.]

Because you're my friend. [Stated quite bluntly, but... it's the truth. His mouth twists uncertainly as he glances away, suddenly wondering if coming at all was foolish.

He'd wanted to... explain things to her, for the record. Out of respect for the friendship she'd been determined to build with him. But perhaps it would've been wiser to stay away.]

[That gets a subdued smile from her. As different as he is from the Sanji she knows, it's comforting to think they're still friends.] I'm glad, then. I-I'm sorry I don't remember...

You don't have to apologize. [Not that he doesn't appreciate it anyways; it's the first time someone's bothered to apologize to him for these screwed up memories]

... I just wanted you to know. [His next sigh seems to linger] I'm sure I seem pretty different from what you expected.

[After a moment's hesitation, she gives a small nod. The disconnect between his appearance--Sanji--and the way he's acting is jarring, to say the least. Vivi mentally sifts through what he'd said earlier. No heart, no emotions. She'd confirmed the first part of that firsthand, but is it really possible for the second statement to be true as well? He's certainly more subdued than Sanji typically is, but even considering that, having no emotions at all seems like an impossible leap.]

I still appreciate it. [She pauses, her mind filled with questions she's not sure she should ask.] ...do you remember...back home, on the Grand Line..? [The way she thinks she understands it, he must have started out as Sanji, her Sanji, until whatever happened with the Heartless he'd mentioned.]

No. [Questions, Jixsan doesn't mind. And sensing this Q&A session might take a while, he retreats towards the wall to lean on, arms folded]

I'm not from the Grand Line, or your world. [A pause] And I can't imagine why Sanji would agree to be a pirate, either. [If Vivi's Sanji is anything like his Somebody, the guy would've balked at the idea.]

I only met the Straw Hats when I came here, after I died.

[...oh. Not her Sanji, then. The smile she gives him is a little sad.] But we still became friends. [She's off-balance, not sure how to act with him, but that's a little reassuring.]

[Vivi motions to her desk chair. It seems rude to leave him leaning against the wall without offering him a seat.] Do you want to sit?

[He only shakes his head at the last question, overlooking the preceding statement. They became friends because she was oddly insistent on it, from his perspective, but then again, it's because of it that he's here at all.

Not for the first time does he wonder if he should take his leave rather than cause her undue awkwardness, but then Jixsan feels a tug on pant leg and glances down to see Pumpkin... busily trying to scale him]

What is up with your cat? [She's friendly, yeah, but he doesn't remember her being that friendly]

[Vivi looks apologetic.] I suppose she thinks you're Sanji-san. Is she bothering you?

[She makes a sound to get Pumpkin's attention and wiggles her fingers to try and lure the cat away, but it's largely ignored.]

She's fine. [Jixsan's rather apathetic towards animals, though Pumpkin and Nea are the great exceptions. Rather than dismiss her, he eventually gives the cat a hand, bending low enough that she literally jumps on his shoulders. That sets him chuckling]

Sati, I'm not a climbing post.

[She'd been too preoccupied before to notice the unfamiliar name he'd called the cat, but this time it's hard to miss.] Sati? Ah, no, her name is Pumpkin.

... You named this poor cat after a squash.

[Wow.]

[Vivi almost sputters; 'Pumpkin' was most certainly not at the top of her list of possible cat names. 'Sati' sounds more like something she'd pick, honestly.]

Sanji-san did! She's his cat.

She is? [Well, that certainly explains the cat's unyielding attempts to splay herself all over the Nobody. Still, he ticks up a brow]

But I... [His mouth twists a little, musing] I gave her to you as a present.

[There's even a difference here, huh?]

...you did?

[A beat.]

And I named her Sati. [She thinks she's beginning to get this now. She smiles at him, less hesitant than before.]

Thank you. [If it's odd to thank him for another version of a cat that he gave to another version of her, well...that doesn't occur to Vivi.]

[It occurs to Jixsan, so her thanks comes as a surprise. However, she seems more relaxed than before; if that's what it takes to seem less of an anomaly, he'll take it.

And unbeknownst to him, his shoulders sag slightly as some of the tenseness eases out of his body. Apparently, Vivi isn't the only one carefully treading along this conversation.]
