You may also want to take into consideration that you may have some differences, yourself. Village-wide memory alterations are not uncommon.

Everyone is well acquainted with their own memories, Annie. The problem is that not all of them fit together with what other people remember. Think of it as a jigsaw puzzle that's gotten mixed together with several others, yet all thrown together into one large box.

I think this one would require more patience than the entire village has to spare. Not that we have any sort of hand in patching it all back up.

It would be nice. You'd think with some of the minds they've trapped in the village, they'd want some of them where they'd be able to be of more practical use than sitting resources.

Mayhaps our upper crust would be too dangerous to allow to mingle with theirs, eh? Too clever for'em.

True. Perhaps they'd be more likely to feel horrified at what would happen to their fellow captives, whereas those recruited immediately for the Malnosso services would have no such attachments.

But it is odd that they haven't even tried. I suppose you're right about that.

I suppose if they would have wanted it that way, we wouldn't have been selected to be the test subjects at all. Maybe we have too much empathy.

Some of us, at least.
