[...Wow, I really must hate your provided scenarios because since this is going to end up being slow behind Rydia's thread anyway I'm going to assume that breakfast was an awkward affair and move on to the unprovided moment when she returns from house 9.


Anyway, when Grune does return, she will smell the familiar scent of baking from someone who is, surprisingly, not her. Depending on how quiet Grune is at entering, she might be able to surprise a mildly disheveled Fenimore putting the last touches on icing a cake. She seems to have either been unsuccessful with keeping the icing and various ingredients from getting all over her or she was on the losing end of a food fight with Sophie. Hard to say. Sophie herself has been pacified with a small bowl of icing, even if it is much less than she would like.]

[Grune isn't particularly known for her stealth. She is, however, notably less energetic than usual, so depending on how preoccupied Fenimore is, she might be able to slip in.

Whether she's noticed or not, she'll make sure to visit the kitchen before anything else. She spends a few moments standing in the doorway, remembering--she met Fenimore on the Legacy and helped her out when everyone was fighting. She isn't a friend she made in Luceti, after all.

Only once that's sorted out in her mind does she speak.]

Hello, Fenimore. Hello, Sophie. Are you baking?

[Grune: Asking the obvious since who knows when.]

[SQUIRT and there goes about half of the remaining icing into a little pool on the top of the cake as Fenimore is startled.

"Hi, Gee Girl." Sophie, having noticed Grune enter, is notably less startled.

Fenimo9re turns and tries to stand in front of the half-finished message on the top. "We love you, G-gi" and then there is splatter of icing from her startled moment.]

Uh...yeah. I just felt like it this morning -- I hadn't really wanted to last week.

[Grune comes a little closer now to get a better look at the cake.]

It's fun to bake sometimes, isn't it?

[She glances over Fenimore's shoulder--or tries to, depending on whether she's going to be blocked.]

[She's trying to move in the way, but her shoulder is pretty far below Grune's head, so it's not an efficient shield.]

Y...eah, it's...pretty fun....

[...This isn't very convincing, is it?]

[That's okay; it convinces Grune!

She gets a good look at the cake despite Fenimore's best efforts and smiles at the sight.] My, what a nice message. Who is it for?

[...Wow, it would be so easy to trick her. And then she probably wouldn't remember when she brought it out later. But that would be too mean, even for her.

(Also, wow, she hates being so much shorter for a moment. ...Okay, moment passed.)]

...I'll show you.

[She turns to finish putting the "rl." on the end...overtop that splatter of icing from when she was startled.

Granted, the surprise may be spoiled by the way Sophie says, "It's you."]

[That actually wasn't what Grune was expecting at all, and her surprise is plain in her voice.]

It's for me?

[...She probably should have thought through what she was going to say before she did this. Well, that's in the past.]

It was Sophie's idea.

[Sophie puts down her spoon for a moment. "No. It was -- " But Fenimore interrupts the three-year-old. wow rude]

Since you've been feeling so mopey about the way things went back to normal, she wanted to remind you that you do still have a family. So it's not like you've really lost that.

[She's not tsun at all really]

[For just a beat, Grune is frozen, still looking at Fenimore. Then, the truest smile all day appears on her face.]

Thank you, Sophie. [She goes over to hug the little girl.]

Thank you, Fenimore. [She comes back to hug her friend.

..Yes, she actually believed you, Fenimore. Count yourself lucky.]

[Hugs are accepted by the little girl. They are a fact of life in this household, after all, and not a bad one at all.

Fenimore is almost too surprised to react to the hug at first -- wow, she didn't notice, awesome -- but she recovers in time.]

It's no big deal, really.

Oh, no, it is.

[Her gaze goes back to the cake, and she smiles.] Knowing you have a family that loves you is very important.

[Good! Then you won't see her face get somewhat red and look slightly down.]

Well, maybe that's important but it wasn't a big deal for me -- us to do that much so....

[Her voice trails off into a mumble. What is expressing feelings in words?]

But it was a big deal for me, so thank you. [She kisses the top of Fenimore's head, then steps back a little.]

We should find everybody so we can all have some cake together.

[.......She really doesn't want to, because the others aren't going to be so easy to fool. They are going to know exactly what happened here.

...But if Grune wants to have them here.... She rubs at the spot where Grune kissed her, turning a little redder.

Still half-mumbling:] Well, if they're around, I guess we can share....

[Grune nods, happy with that.]

Yes, that would be good. It's always important to share.

[She looks over at the other person in the room.] Right, Sophie?

[blessingone]

[Sophie knows this one. It is one of those things she needs to remember if tested on, right? With a nod: "Yeah."

Fenimore puts her face in her hands.]

You would put it like that, wouldn't you?

[Siiiiigh. She will have to prepare her heart for the looks she is certain she will get from Norma if she is around.]

[That sends Grune right into puzzled mode.]

Why wouldn't I put it like that?

There's no reason why you wouldn't.

[Or, rather, "There's no reason why you wouldn't."]

Oh. All right.

[She spends a few more seconds being confused, then shakes it off. A smile appears on her face.]

Well then, I should go see where everyone is. I'm sure they'll be very happy to have your cake, just like me.

Yeah. Probably. [But maybe not for the same reasons.]

[lostinmyway]

I'll be back soon!

[But first, she needs to give Fenimore one more hug, and Sophie a kiss on the top of her head.]

[Stop being so loveable, Grune. Stop it!

Fenimore will accept the hug and then settle back to await her likely teasing.]

[And off Grune goes to unwittingly inflict a good deal of misery on one of her best friends. Hooray!]
