After months of planning and roping in poor, innocent people to help out with some of the work it's finally done. An actual festival, all for the starfish.

The morning of the 14th mostly consists of people arriving, the stalls being brought in and decorations being put up. It's all about the preparation! Most of the decorating consists of banners and streamers you might find at a school festival, all hung around doors and windows and between the buildings in the plaza. And star shaped pieces of card being stuck up here and there in places too. If the decorations don't tell you what's going on then the banners saying 'STARFISH FESTIVAL' certainly will.

Come midday the festival is in full swing. There's plenty of food at many of the stalls (either prepared by Fuuko and the other girls or brought in by other villagers) ranging from cake, ice cream and different kinds of sweet things, to starfish tea, sandwiches, all sorts of festival fare. There are a few games set up too where it's possible to win starfish related prizes like pins, badges and even plush toys and some stalls are even giving out wind chimes. Finally there's also a little entertainment provided with music being played in the background throughout most of the festival. (You should totally go listen to Kotomi giving her very own violin recital.)

By night time when most of the food is gone there will be a fireworks display to bring an end to the festival. Hopefully the Starfish Festival would be a day to remember!

(You didn't need to receive an invite in order to come, that was just the girl's attempt at getting word of the festival out there. The festival is open to anyone and everyone to come along and have a good time.)

... Would you really want to eat a starfish? Fuuko understands that you didn't know what a starfish was until now, so Fuuko will give you the benefit of the doubt but... How very horrible.

Fuuko wouldn't know as Fuuko has never and will never ever eat a starfish! What sort of cruel person would eat such a little guy?!

More than just to look at. The starfish are always there to keep you company if you're feeling lonely! And they feel so soft and squishy that you could pet a starfish for hours on end and never get bored!

You can pet them?

Of course, you can do all sorts with the starfish, they're very kind and friendly like that. You might even be able to take a starfish home with you providing they really love and trust you and they don't mind leaving their friends.

[And she would know this as she has her own pet starfish! ... But hers was a present so who knows what happened to its friends.]

So they're loyal? They won't hurt you or anything? Or ignore you?

The starfish will never ignore you, they're always there to listen to everything you have to say and Fuuko thinks they are very good listeners, very attentive. They're there for you when you're feeling lonely and the starfish are always good at cheering Fuuko up. Just thinking about them is enough to brighten Fuuko's day!

There are plenty of starfish at the beach, they all line the shore and look absolutely adorable together! When Fuuko first saw them over the journals it really was a sight to remember. Be careful taking the starfish from the beach though, they all have a family and friends to take care of after all.

[And splitting up a big, happy starfish family would be horrible.]

I'll just take a whole family then, so none of them get separated! [wow hi he's been separated from his bros for a while now hasn't he HE WON'T LET SOMEONE, EVEN A STARFISH, BE SAD OR LONELY.]

A-A whole family?! Really, you're going to take a whole family back with you?! That's...

[There's almost an odd pang of jealousy at that.]

But there could be lots in one family, maybe ten or twenty! Can you really look after all those starfish?! You'll need two or three tanks for that and Fuuko has trouble enough cleaning one!

[Is Chien some sort of pet expert...?]

[He is certainly not!!! But it can't be that hard to take care a bunch of friendly star-shaped fish. Take a victorious bite of his cake, finally, how delicious indeed. Thinking.]

I guess you can help out. You can keep them for me, since I don't live in the village, but they'll be my starfish. I'll come over and take care of them or something.

W-Well Fuuko really can't say no... If you're going to be the one who comes around and cleans the starfish and feed them when they need it then Fuuko will be happy to have an extra fish tank in the house!

What do they eat anyway?

Lots of different things, it all depends on the starfish! Some eat coral, some eat shellfish and some even eat sand and spit it back out for nutrients. Fuuko just feeds them the vitamins they need through a pipette though.

What's a pipette?

[BECAUSE THAT WOULD HURT HER FEELINGS?! WOW CHIEN.]

A little plastic tube which you can use to suck up liquid and squirt it back out. Fuuko had never used one before but when Manami-san came along Fuuko went out to find one. It's very useful!

I see. That sounds like a weird thing to use to feed them. Why can't you just give them fruit?

[You say that but I bet Chien will show up in a few months time and tell her again 'nope still sucks'. RUINING HER IN THE LONG RUN.]

The starfish don't eat fruit. They have very small mouths and Fuuko thinks it would be very silly if you suddenly dropped an apple into their tank and you expected them to eat it. Plus apples float, lots of fruit does, so the starfish would have trouble getting to it.

... Bugs? Huh? Why are you asking about bugs? If you're suggesting that the starfish start eating bugs and other insects then that's just silly. The only things like that underwater would be sea slugs or sea snails anyway and even that's a stretch.

What pipes... Oh, do you mean the pipette? It's a nutrient soloution Fuuko found at the item shop. It's a mix of lots of different things that makes sure the starfish will remian happy and healthy!
