The Cultural Fair

Who: Everyone! Or as close to that as possible, please. \o/
What: The Cultural Fair
When: April 25th-26th, though the earlier set-up days (22nd, 23rd, and keeping everything dry on the 24th) are also encouraged to help get a feel for it
Where: All around the town square
Summary: Also here.
Rating: ... is this a thing?

Note: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier. Work was probably started for it on the 22nd-23rd for labor purposes, sheltering things from the weather on the 24th, and the actual Fair is on the 25th-26th, so using any of those dates and figuring out where your characters are helping would be good. CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth.

I'll leave the descriptions up to you all as there probably isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about it. Think of it as something on a much smaller scale than the festival from a year ago, definitely, but how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. That said there are plenty of unique sights, so enjoy browsing! Thank you!

(Also, please add your name tags!)
dragoneer: (Yup. There you have it.)

[This will be a staring match of the ages. Until curiosity gets the better of Toothless and he starts sniffing Luminair a bit closer. Smell is very important to him, okay!]

That's--that's wonderful! [The idea of seeing and meeting new dragons completely enthralls him.]

Really? We only had one book about dragons back on my island. [He holds up the Dragon Book.] This one, in fact.
folklorist: (Curiousity killed the cat you know?)

[ Staring match indeed! Luminair might back away as the large dragon comes closer. He'll give a chirp before lifting a claw up to try and paw at the other. He is totally ferocious Toothless you better watch yourself! ]

It is, isn't it [ A smile. ] I honestly never expected to actually have one of my own. But, ah, he's certainly a welcomed edition to the house. [ Helios will look over at that book curiously. ]

Do you mind if I...take a look?
dragoneer: (Clearly I'm fabulous.)

[personal profile] dragoneer 2012-05-01 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Toothless opens his jaw to make a deep guttural sound that sounds suspiciously like laughter. Okay, Luminair, you're pretty cool.]

Oh--sure, go right ahead! [Hiccup holds out the book to him. It's a bit tattered and worn, but it's sturdy--much like the vikings themselves.]
folklorist: (Never seen anything like it)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-07 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ Luminair will just let out a small playful growl pawing at the other dragon and then giving a happy little chirp. ]

Thank you. It's very aged. Y-You've must have had this for a long time. [ Helios will take great care when holding it then. His hands will flip through the pages. ] These are fascinating. Y-You have a dragon here...that's made of bone? Boneknapper...

[ Helios looks at that one with a fascinated glint in his eye. Even he's never seen one quite like that before. ]
dragoneer: (Hopeful)

[personal profile] dragoneer 2012-05-08 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hiccup nods.] Yeah. I think vikings generations ago started compiling information on dragons and started that book. It has everything we know about the dragons--well, except for Night Furies. Like Toothless is.

[And then he can't help but grin. The Boneknapper was one of the most fascinating ones.] Yeah. Although some say it's just a legend. But I think it's real.

Your ancestors must have been quite the intrepid explorers to have cataloged all these different types... [ though now that he looks through it, reads it more closely his eyebrows knit together a little and a small frown touches his lips. It was more about their aggressive behaviors than anything else. It was rather disheartening to read, but he couldn't fault a culture for this. Dragons of any world were probably intimidating. ]

Some legends are real. Most of them are in my own world.
dragoneer: (Whoa)

[personal profile] dragoneer 2012-05-11 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...Really? [Oh, now that is a most intriguing thing to learn.] What kinds of legends?
folklorist: (A rather interesting thought)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-13 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh all sorts! There's St. George and the Dragon. Beowulf, The Legend of Yofune-Nushi, and many more. All of those have dragons in them they're rather interesting too. I'm certain the library has a book on them somewhere...
dragoneer: (Hopeful)

[personal profile] dragoneer 2012-05-14 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
R-really? Man, I'll have to look for them. I hadn't even thought about searching for stories like that.
folklorist: (Curiousity killed the cat you know?)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-15 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
They're quite good actually. I think you'll enjoy them. They're, um, very interesting some of them. I can find a few in the library if you like?
dragoneer: (I got this one)

[personal profile] dragoneer 2012-05-15 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You...you would? Oh man, that'd be great!
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-15 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I'd be more than happy to help you with this. It's, ah, a bit of a pleasure really. N-Not too many places have dragons after all and their such amazing creatures. If I can help other people learn about them, well, I certainly wouldn't be opposed.
dragoneer: (I got this one)

[personal profile] dragoneer 2012-05-17 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
They are. Amazing, I mean. [And he'd love to talk about them all the livelong day.] I-I can tell you everything I know about Berk dragons, too.
folklorist: (I suppose that works)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-21 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to hear more about them. I-I'm sure your working with them and such has given you more information than books and the like. [ Generally seeing things for yourself usually is the case when if comes to that. Helios smiles as he nods and looks back at Luminiar and Toothless. ]

It'll get those two more acquainted as well. I think Toothless having a friend would be good for him. There's not nearly enough dragons around Luceti. [ A chuckle. ]
dragoneer: (We cool bro.)

[personal profile] dragoneer 2012-05-22 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You're definitely right about that. [Though, to be fair, Hiccup would probably never feel like there were enough dragons in Luceti.] Having them socialize has got to be good for them.
folklorist: (So you did like it then)

[personal profile] folklorist 2012-05-27 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think it makes them...more able to tap into their natural roots. Being around cats has given Luminair a somewhat feline behavioral pattern. [ Helios chuckles looking back over to the little dragon who will be trying to pounce Toothless despite the other dragon's size. ]
