Summary: It's that special time when the Malnosso collect all their recent experiments and apply them all at once to measure effectiveness. Although invaluable as research, it tends to leave the subjects looking just a bit mad.

[His smile falters a little. The coolness is hard to ignore, but he just tries to keep pressing forward.] It's nice outside, isn't it?

[His first thought is "It could be worse", but that's exactly the sort of pessimistic response he should be avoiding.]

[...Oh, that's a better response than he expected.]

That's why I came out here. [He tilts his face up to the sun a little, closing his eyes contently. ...Or at least putting on a good show, anyway.]

Hmm... [He glances up at the sky as well, trying to think of something more concrete to talk about than just the weather.]

... How is your leg?

[He looks back at Yuan, happy that he might care at least a little, hungry for that affirmation. ...Or maybe his brother is just fishing for conversation topics. Either way, Mithos will latch onto it.]

A lot better. [Look, no crutch!] It's still a little weak, so I can't go for too long without resting it. [WHich is why he's sitting on this bench.]

[All right. Now they're getting somewhere.]

It's good that you're improving, at least. If this keeps up, you should regain full use of your leg soon enough.

Yeah, Raine told me the same thing. I'm glad...it was a hassle to have to use those crutches for so long. [Mama fretted over him more than usual, but he didn't really mind that part.]

I can imagine. [Yuan can't stand being injured and unable to properly move around, either. That's one thing they have in common, at least, though he's sure it applies to most people.]

At least the apartment is on the ground floor. That made it a little easier. [Yeah, he's...just trying to make this conversation last.]

Yes, that's... a stroke of luck. [... "Luck"? Did he really just say that?]

... I mean, it could've been one of the top floors instead.

...Yeah, that would have been annoying. [.....Oh god he can see this conversation going down in flames. Sob.]

How... is mother?

Ah... You know that shift that's going on? [...oh god how to explain this...] Mom is...she's a kid now.

How old is she?

Maybe five or six...really young.

Does she remember... who she is beyond that?

[He shakes his head.] ...No, it doesn't seem like it. She said she thought that she'd met me before, but she wasn't too sure.

[fortunefail]

[Hm...] That sounds troublesome.

[imatreenow]

I don't mind taking care of her, though. [It's nice, being able to return the favor like that.]

Oh, well, that's... That's good, then. [Though, now Yuan's feeling guilty for once again leaving this kind of responsibility in the hands of his siblings.]

[Belatedly, he realizes this conversation just veered into awkward territory. His smile fades. He lingers on the temptation to guilt-trip his brother, but he can't bring himself to let go of the close-to-pleasant tone of this encounter. It always has to be complicated, doesn't it...]

Yeah... [He scrambles for something else to say, but comes up blank.]

[Yuan's painfully aware of the following silence as well. Part of him wonders if he should just end the conversation while it's still somewhat pleasant and leave, but... There must be something else!]

... How is Raine?

She's doing well. I just talked to her the other day. [Because of course he would closely stay in touch even when she doesn't live as close as he would like her to.]
