Event Log - Total Recall

Who: You and you and mostly me and you
What: Everyone's been Shifted in their own way
When: A hero doesn't care if this event last a whole ten days
Where: Everyone can blaze a hero's trail
Summary: It's that special time when the Malnosso collect all their recent experiments and apply them all at once to measure effectiveness. Although invaluable as research, it tends to leave the subjects looking just a bit mad.
Rating: Rated H for HEROIC

So there is a mod post and it pretty much tells you EVERYTHING you need to know. This is a mass log for people to comment around on if they don't want to make posts. Or even if they want to make posts anyway. There will be at least one more of these later in the event! ENJOY!

I guess so. [She squeezes his hand tightly, taking a deep breath as his words reach out to her, understanding and soothing. Something would await her at the end of this Shift, be it returning to Earth to try and stop the moon, fading away to simply a layer of thought that helped shape 'Sabriel' or else she'd simply...fade away. Red was right, the insecurity of not knowing was already setting her on edge but what could she do? ...God she needed a drink. Or three.]

I appreciate you telling me. Someone tried to tell me before but...I wouldn't believe them.

It's a very hard thing to believe.

[He didn't want to believe it when he first found out, but always held data with supporting evidence to be true even if the truth was unbelievable. The logs in his journal, the discrepancies of memory, the sheer amount of people that insisted on calling him 'Lupin' all added up to the one fact that was the hardest to bear.]

Don't let it eat at you. The best thing to do is pretend you're on a vacation for a few days, and just let everything breeze on by.

A vacation huh? Maybe...that might not be too bad.

[Maybe she could write some letters to people too? But then again who would she leave one with? Viral? Somehow that didn't feel right...but it to slip away without saying or revealing anything to him wasn't right either. She'd think of something.]

No it wouldn't--and you sound like you could use one.

[He smiled bitterly, for both of their sake. Red's copious notes were his own way of proving his existance. Letters could only go so far, and he wanted to leave Lupin with something that would be useful.]

Just try not to think too much.

[Sabbi heaves a sigh, giving Red's hand one more squeeze before she pulls it away.]

This Shift...it anchors you to someone's world through a person, right? What happens to them?

[Red nods and settles back, content enough with Sabbi's promise to try. That was all any of them could do.]

That's what happened the last time. I was anchored through Luke...and it's wierd thinking of it like that when I can remember decrypting the data that the Bothan Spies died to send to us, and when I can remember helping Kyle Katarn take down Project Darksoldier. You'll need to ask Luke for answers to your other question...later. He's a little...little at the moment. [The very idea of Luke being a child unsettled him, and not because he only knew Luke as an adult. He didn't want to be forgotten again.]

He does remember me even outside of Shifts though, and hasn't complained about having differing memories. He even told Lupin recently that it's an odd blessing, being able to live two lives.

[The thought of the young Luke running around and quite literally bumping into people was somewhat endearing...he had been quite a sweet child.]

Maybe it is but what if you don't...what if the life we return to is worse than the one I have now? How do you cope with that kind of longing?

You try not to think of the what-ifs. They'll only make you hurt more. Sabbi, just focus on living.

[It was the best advice that he had. In the days after he knew, he wanted nothing more than to leave a lasting mark...and he did. He left those notes for Lupin, which he knew were useful, and left a lasting impression on those he met. Even if he didn't live to see tomorrow, it was a strange way to continue living.

Existing in someone's memory is better than never having existed.]

Right, you're right. ...That's going to be easier said than done, unless I can keep my mind off of it somehow.

[She could probably find something to do...set up some sort of regimen over the next couple of days to keep her as busy as possible.]

...then don't focus on the fear.

[It was a simple directive, but Red knew what he was doing.] Fear can only hurt you, and leads you down a darker path. Instead, why not focus on leaving something of yourself behind? Make sure you're not entirely forgotten, if that's how this Shift ends. We don't know...but there's no harm in trying.

Hm...that's a good idea. They take possessions of ours away at the end right? So it should be something I create myself.

...They do. [He lost his datapad and all of his gear at the end of that experiment, but he at least left notes on paper he found within the village. That was what remained.] It can be anything you want it to be, but it can't be something that you've had since you were home. You'll figure out something that works.

Yeah...I'll think of something now that I know what's going on.

[With a nod Sabbi stands, picking up her tray that she'd set aside earlier. She still had a job to do and this conversation with Red had taken up a good chunk of time...not that she regretted any of it.]

Can I get you anything else from the kitchen?

I'm fine, Sabbi.

[It was true. As long as he had his work, he would be fine.]

You take care of yourself. Remember what's really important here, okay?

I will.

[Sabbi pauses for a moment before leaning over to give Red a one armed hug, withdrawing with a smile.]
