Actually the, uhm, dream-nightmare-whatever that they tossed me into was...a kinda common one. It's been used against me before. Guess I should've seen it coming.

I guess I should be grateful I'm not an especially nightmary-type person.

[Once again, he doesn't really feel grateful.]

Rogue. [Rogue. Not Marion. Not as his dream had led him to believe.] You?

Jack. [ ... ] He shot my father in the head. Should've seen it -- he didn't even hesitate. What a champ.

He was it, then? [He shifts, trying to see her in earnest now.] The Shifter, I mean. He was your dad?

[He's hardly heard Buffy talk about her parents. Especially her father.]

Y-yeah. I guess so. I didn't even realize what had...

I was out cold as soon as the Shift ended. [ there are a few good reasons why hank doesn't often get mentioned. ]

How bad did he get you?

[ oh! ] Nah. I...was probably mostly already like this when the Shifter got to me. I'd probably be healed by now if not for the major mojo-suckage that whole dream thing was a cover for.

The first bit of shine he ever gave me was made from tin foil -- so I think he'll have to deal. [ there's been more since, but...well. an infirmary isn't the best place to talk about engagement rings. ]

Yeah, and as soon as richness does anything for me in this place, I'll get you the best diamond friendship bracelet you've ever seen.

[herotypical]

[ teasing him was somewhat relaxing. then: ] Though I suppose I should be the one asking you whether you SO would mind you raining bling on someone else.

Frankly, I'd be a little worried if she minded a friendship bracelet. Candy or diamond. It's--stuff like that doesn't get to her.

[It's nice to be talking about Pepper, though. Even if she'd be lecturing him right now for not being careful while reassuring him everything would be okay anyway.]

[ and pepper passes the second will the unreasonably protective buffy approve of your girlfriend test! ]

She kind of has to be to put up with me all the time.

I'm sure she sees it as worth it. Some of us like to find silver linings when we date the insufferable.
