There will be a thread for interacting with NPCs, but they may not all go up at once, so keep an eye out for them.

Note: A log for the events in the village will go up on the 21st, in time for the hurricane and droid incursion.

[And now Grune is, too. This isn't his home, of course, and--]

Is Rydia here too?

[She looks about, trying to find her friend.]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain looks at her like she's lost her mind. Grune, that's really... weird of you to say! He gestures toward "Rydia".]

Can you not see her?

[lostinmyway]

[Okay, she's really worried now.]

Kain, that isn't Rydia. That's an enemy!

[She actually goes so far as to take Kain's arm and try to tug him away. Why can't he see what's wrong? He's going to be hurt!]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain gives her a WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT look, as if she's lost her mind. He reaches toward "Rydia", not wanting to be dragged away from her...]

[Grune is going to tug on his arm again, with a surprising amount of firmness for her.]

We're fighting to protect everyone right now. Don't you remember?

[dragoon_pride]

[But Rydia! And his home! Something... is off about all of this, though... Kain looks uncertainly between Rydia and Grune.]

[lostinmyway]

[And again with the tugging.]

We need to go. It's very, very important. If we don't, you could get hurt.

[dragoon_pride]

[Well, ok, but surely Rydia is in danger too! Kain tries to grab at her so they can bring her along. Even if... something is off... how did they return to Baron again, anyway?]

[lostinmyway]

[It's at this point that Grune is going to try to stand between Kain and "Rydia."]

Kain, that's an enemy. You have to let go!

[She actually goes so far as to shove at his shoulder, and if that doesn't tell him something is wrong....]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain looks completely stunned by that, so much that he doesn't try to fight her off. He stares, uncertain, but having that deep down feeling about something wrong...]

[With that small victory, Grune keeps pushing. Whether the soldier likes it or not, Grune is getting him out of there.

Once there's a little more space between Kain and "Rydia," Grune turns to face the soldier.]

You need to go away now and leave Kain alone. It isn't nice to trick people.

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain wants to scold Grune not to talk to his wife that way... but... something is wrong, he's becoming more sure of that. He continues on his way...]

[Relieved, Grune takes his hand and does the same. Which...may not be the smartest thing to do.

Funny how they don't seem to be able to leave, though....]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain looks at her uncertainly. 'What's wrong?' he mouths. He's still terribly confused by the experience he's having.]

[lostinmyway]

[It takes her a second to put together what he's asked, but then:] I can't find the way out. Do you know where it is?

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain looks around uneasily, as the false Rydia in turn advances toward him.]

[lostinmyway]

[Grune immediately steps between them and spreads her arms wide.]

You can't come any closer. I won't let you.

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain lifts his spear defensively, then hesitates. It's a trick, but... part of him can't seem to believe that.]

[lostinmyway]

[When the soldier continues to advance, Grune begins casting; black and purple lights appear beneath her feet.]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain is frozen in place, uncharacteristically indecisive about making any kind of action. He glances at what Grune seems to be doing... some kind of spell...?]

[lostinmyway]

[Definitely some kind of spell. Just before the fake Rydia reaches them, the light around Grune flares and she calls out:] Bloody Howling.

[The enemy soldier is swallowed by a twisting dark orb. While this may be Grune's weakest spell, it's still quite powerful indeed.]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain gasps on seeing it, but he knows that it's not really her... it's only a way to get rid of this enemy using this spell...]

[But, while the enemy is injured and falls back a little from the spell, the barrier remains entirely in place.

Grune isn't discouraged, though, but begins casting again. She will protect Kain, no matter what.]

[dragoon_pride]

[Kain is starting to have a bad feeling about this... What if they can never leave this false vision? All he can bring himself to do for the moment is take up a defensive stance, preparing to act if that spell doesn't work, if it only enrages the enemy...]

[lostinmyway]

[And it doesn't work. While Grune is doing some clear damage to the enemy, the barrier remains as solid as ever.

At this point, "Rydia" seems to have had enough of being attacked by Grune, and she launches herself forward even as Grune begins another spell.]
