Beach Volleyball Tournament

What: Volleyball Tournament
When: July 22nd, 11am onward!
Where: The Beach!
Summary: Fun in the sun and a bit of competitive spirit! If you signed up for the volleyball tournament, be prepared to rock the house down against the opposing teams! Just there to watch? Enjoy the seats around the volleyball courts as a spectator and have a refreshing drink or some beach-side snacks! SWIMSUIT REQUIRED for everyone there. If you're found by someone in charge without one you may or may not be subject to getting mysteriously kidnapped and put in one, human or not. That's right, even chihuahuas if there are any have to at least have a cool straw hat and sunglasses.
Rating: PG-13. Please try to keep it PG-13 max and warn in the subject header for anything iffy!
When you first arrive, there will be a huge board with the brackets for the tournament on it:



{{ ooc: All of the brackets were totally randomized using RNG on random.org. Unfortunately, I don't have all of the muns memorized so if I put your character against another one of your character, PLEASE let me now ASAP and we can get that fixed! If there are no replies to a match within one week, that team will be disqualified as having not showed up, just so that we can keep going. After the first week, it will be 3 days. (The first week is to account for Otakon, since I know a lot of people are going to that.) }}

After you pass the sign, there are multiple volleyball courts set up, ref towers, lots of beach umbrellas and towels set out on the sand for viewers, and waiters and waitresses handing out drinks to anyone who comes by, courtesy of the local bars. Alcohol will only be available to those who are 18+. It's hot, too, so make sure you don't forget sunscreen!

It's complicated. Basically, my afterlife is for a specific type of kids who need to move on. We're all high schoolers there and we all had lives that ended way too short for whatever reason and we unfair in a way that we had no control over. We get stuck here if it's bad enough that God doesn't see us fit to wipe our memories and let our souls be reincarnated until we find a way to get over it. If you can't or won't get over it, you stay there until you do no matter how long it takes. You don't age, you can't stay hurt-- but you can get hurt and feel pain exactly like normal, you can't die again because you're already dead. You become satisfied or live like a normal teenager there, you disappear and your soul gets reincarnated.

Most people just get reincarnated though.

That. Is very complicated. It doesn't sound like it's all that busy though. What is it, a giant waiting room?

A boarding school. It's a giant school with a forest, mountains, a river... There are people there too. Not just other dead people, but they're not really people. They're like NPCs in a video game.

...That sounds like the set up for a D and D style game. Do you fight monsters too?

Not usually. We used to just fight with each other, but something changed and I.. don't know what it is-- but these things started attacking everyone. If you get caught you lose your free will and your memories, but still have to exist in the afterlife. That's why I have to get back.

[There were few things that he actively feared--one of them was losing his memories and being a bare shell of himself. It was a threat he faced back at home, but that was purely tech based...]

Well, we hadn't fought with each other for a while. Most people freak out when they first get there and that plus being indestructible equals fighting.

[ She nods. ] I know it is. I was on my way to stopping it when I ended up here.

Pity that you're probably gonna forget any insights you have into your problem by the time you return. Having the time to plan really is a boon.

Really really similar, it's just shorter lines for getting brought back if you die. Plus crazy experiments.

[ She shakes her head, shifting her weight to one side a little annoyedly. More at the situation than anything else. ] I don't need anymore time to plan. I'm ready now and there's nothing I can do to get more ready. The other people from my world are from my future and they weren't there when it happens, so they can't help me at all.

It sounds like all we can do is wish you luck and hope for the best then. Though, if your friends are here, we can bet place bets on your success--right?

It has to mean that, right? I know we're supposed to disappear after whatever happens but I don't think I would be able to do that if I didn't take out God.

Thanks. What about you? All I really know about you is your name and that you like coffee. [ Of course, if he says not to answer she'll back off. Peoples' stories are their own. ]

Oh, it's nothing nearly as interesting as yours~

[He grins slyly at her.] I'm just one of the best thieves from my world.

[ She... gets pretty nervous almost immediately as he says that, shifting slightly. Even if she likes Lupin, that's probably the one thing she can't be comfortable with or not care about someone being. ]

Not exactly one of the good guys then.

[That's a normal reaction--he's used to it. Lupin adopts a calm tone, with no hint of guile of deceit.]

Actually, I do like my grandfather did and take a few cues from the anarchist Marius Jacob. I don't go after those who can't afford it, or those who are innocent. Besides that, the only ones who ever get in trouble because of me are those who threaten my liberty.

...It's in my blood, Pippa. No one in my family can stand living like a regular citizen.

Have you ever hurt anyone during it?

[ Her family could afford it, that isn't making it any better. ]

Physically or financially?

...if you're talking physically, I make it a point to only hurt those who have tried to hurt myself, what's mine, or anyone who is innocent and under my care. Financially? Only those who are corrupt, like dirty politicians or Mafiosos.

[magentarific]

Thieves broke into our home while my parents were out. My parents didn't give me any information for safes or tell me what was worth more, so one by one they killed them off in front of me to inspire me to think of where the things worth money were.

[ She pauses for a moment. ]

If you haven't hurt anyone innocent, then I'll try to trust you. Just don't blame me if I'm a little on edge.

[That grabs his attention fully, and there is a quiet outrage at the culprits that is evident in the narrowing of his eyes. His voice is steely calm as he replies.]

Yuri. I would kill bastards like that. [There is no tone of jest in his voice--such people were the reason why his career was so reviled, and why he liked to tack on the term 'gentleman' in general dealings. Scum like that was the reason he looked at the morals of his world through gray tinted lenses. Just because he was a thief didn't mean that he associated with all criminals.]

...I fully understand your reasons, and I really don't blame you for them.

[magentarific]

I'd love to see them dead too, but that's not happening. The police came right after the last person got killed off, so they're in custody. I think. [ She crosses her arms. ] Being dead kind of means you don't get up-to-date statuses on criminal sentences. For all I know, they might be getting off on parole or on death row.

Let's hope that the law dogs are actually competent on your world then, because that kind of crime doesn't go unpunished in mine. Someone, somehow, should go after them. There really is honor among thieves, just not in all of them. Ones like that are the lowest of the low, and will never be able to play in the global circuit.

...I'm sorry you had to go through that, Pippa.

The police are pretty good, if a little slow. It's the lawyers that make things hard. Getting anything actually done besides jail time is difficult.

[ She shakes her head. ] As long as you're nothing like them, then I'm not worried.

Lawyers. hnn..they're all the same.

[He frown at that thought momentarily before offering her a small smile.] My partners and I are nothing at all like them. You can have a little faith in this thief.

[magentarific]

Hopefully I can. I won't count you out yet, at least. [ Lupin might be one of the first people she's actually hesitant about trusting, just because of this. ]
