[He's not sure what to think about the gifts comment, but puts it aside for the moment.]

[Make nothing of it. It's a partial lie anyway.]

I'll show you where to get some then. There's a bakery in town that uses a really nice blend, and there probably will be another coffee shop around here in a few months. If we're lucky.

Alright, lead the way.

[He'll just follow where ever Lupin leads because it's safer than getting them lost.]

So, how long have you been here?

[With this Shift, the odds were high that they were going to get lost anyway. Especially if they went through a door together.]

It will be in the center of town, within sight of the Fountain. It will be hard to miss.

I've been here for about eight months now. It's a little bit hard to believe sometimes, but this place isn't terrible. It's just very, very flawed...and it's nothing like any of our homes.

[~~But at least they'd be together.~~ With their luck, they'll make it to the place, go through the door, and end up somewhere else completely.]

Yeah, I kind of got that. [It certainly wasn't anything like his home.] How often do these Shifts happen?

[~~Together and in a tree!~~]

These Shifts happen once or twice a cycle, depending on the kind of mood our benefactors are in. They're usually harmless and annoying.

[He shrugged nonchalantly. Maybe he was getting too used to this place.]

The bakery's up ahead. Shall we..?

[~~Good thing Steve is an excellent climber.~~]

A cycle...Like the lunar cycle?

[He spots the bakery after Lupin mentions it and nods. Well, here goes nothing.]

No, not quite. Every two months we get a new batch of people coming in. Some people call that a cycle around here, since it's too short a frame to be called a season.

[He stops at the door and glances at the man.]

After you? [Because he's not taking a chance on ending up in a closet with a complete stranger.]

So this cycle has just begun then.

[Steve glances between him and the door a bit nervously. Not that he'd want to end up squished in a closet with anyone either.]

Alright. [After a moment's hesitation he steps through the door...and into the bakery.]

[Lupin stares inside the door, eyes wide with surprise. He was tempted to ask how that happened, but knew that it was probably an odd effect of the Shift.]

All right, let's see if this...

[Lupin gingerly takes a step through...and is also in the bakery. He stared around in quiet shock for a beat before grinning broadly.]

That's the first time that worked all week!

[Steve looks around, amazed. It's a first for him too and he can't help but glance down to make sure his shirt is still on. It was.]

Looks like the Shift figured we could use a break. [Not that he's expecting to be able to leave the bakery without winding up in a tree or someones kitchen.]

I'm gonna pray that you're right and we stay this lucky.

[For once, maybe he could have a small reprieve. Food and coffee were in order, to celebrate his good fortune and to take advantage of the situation.

Who was to say that he'd be able to make it back in?]

So, coffee?

[He leads them over to the counter to place their order.]

Coffee and a sandwich!

[Still grinning like a fool, he joins the stranger.]

It's Lupin, by the way. We might get sent to the moon when we leave. And, I don't know about you, but I'd like to be friendly with someone I'm going to be stuck with in those circumstances.

I'm Steve. Steve Rogers. [He holds his hand out for a very old fashioned hand shake.]

The moon, huh? That would unfortunate, but probably not the worst situation we could end up in.

Nice meeting you, Steve. [He accepts the shake, mostly because he can be quite old fashioned himself.]

There was a draft on the moon recently, so we know that there is an inhabitable facility up there. But...yeah, that definitely wouldn't be fun.

So far all of the jumps seem to be other places in the enclosure, for what it's worth.

There's an inhabitable facility on the moon? [It's not that he didn't understand Lupin the first time, but the idea bears repeating.]

Well lets hope so. The last thing I want to do is up end lost in the woods miles from town. Although, there wouldn't be any doors out there at least.

That's right. The moon. I wasn't on the recent draft, so I can't really give you any more details on that front. [He was instead embroiled in the affairs that happened on the ground--the results of which could be found in the journals, with some digging.]

The lack of doors depends entirely on where you're at in the woods. There's a house down by the southern lake where a friend of mine used to live, and there's also a series of tree houses out by the lake in the west. But, for the most part, we'd be safe.

[Or maybe not entirely, if that vampire was still roaming around...]

That's fine. [He nods in understanding and makes a mental note to do some digging later.]

Well I wasn't planning to hang around any tree houses. In fact, if I could help it, I'd avoid doors altogether. [At least until it started to rain or something equally inconvenient.]

[Sorry to burst your bubble there Steve...]

That might not even be safe. Windows and even refrigerators have been glitching out on me all week. The safest thing is to not go anywhere, but that gets boring fast.

[He shrugs.]

I haven't found a way of avoiding it yet.

[Wait, did he just say...?]

Refrigerators have been glitching? What does that mean, all the food spoils? [That's one thing that hasn't happened to him this week. For now.]

No, the food doesn't spoil. [He sighs, wearily.] It just means that you get sucked through when you go in to pull something out.

[It was how he got sucked into this mess, and it was probably part of the reason why he wasn't able to return to his kitchen. There would be hell to pay for the Malnosso when this Shift ended.]

[What in the world?]

So the refrigerators are teleporting people now to? [He just can't seem to get past this.]

Sometimes. Maybe you just got lucky at the draw?

[Lucky? Not even close.]

I just...don't even get it. At least the doors and windows make some sense. [Look at him, trying to make this place logical.]
