Summary: Luce is meandering about the town, he is trying to learn about it and adapt. But this is him we're talking about.
Rating: PG-13
The odd thing about Luce, that despite is overly sheltered life, lack of common sense and ingrained ignorance, was that no matter what he would be naturally curious. Today, one could see the blond walking about town investigating thing, watching people, and feeling random items in stores.

He wanted to see how people survived here, and being here for just over a month had taught him a lot of things but at the same time nothing. So, what was this man to do? Besides, adapt.

He takes one and follows her. "How long have you been working on your garden?"

"Not terribly long. It's still very small." She continues in silence for a moment, but doesn't look back at you.

"Did you do much labor at all in your world?"

"My job is to be The Judge, it is what I was raised to do."

So the answer was no. Not that she expected as much.

"And of what use is that?"

"It is my duty to the Church. To help the land and the people of it."

"How do you help if you don't work?"

"I do work, I judge who the Church needs me to."

"Judge them based on what merit?"

"The laws of the church and my inborn skills."

She'll finally look at him, at least over her shoulder, her eyebrows raised.

"Inborn skills?" If she might sound skeptical, she's not. She's merely wanting clarification.

"If the Church asked, I know what is inside of someone's mind and what they have done."

"So you are a mind-reader? You can tell all guilt and circumstances just by peering into someone's thoughts?" This, she doesn't like, though she may be misunderstanding.

"Correct, although Abel has been telling me to think more in shades of gray. Think about the circumstances instead of merely the crime. While the Church... It tells me either the crime was committed or not." He worried his lip, obviously Abel had started to influence his judgement more than he should have.

"So it is not you who judges but the church. You're just a vehicle." But never mind that for now. "Can you read my thoughts if you chose to?"

"I could. But I have no reason to."

"Keep it that way. If I find out you ever do I'll show you no mercy."

It is a somewhat empty threat since she won't kill you or even try-- though she will make you regret it to the utmost, and she will definitely tell Marco when he returns. Perhaps that will be the only thing she will tell him when he returns. Blind idiots who discover secrets are sometimes even more dangerous than intelligent ones. He can be a puppet for anyone.

"Why do you think I would?" Luce frowns, he has been told that many times before in his life.

"I don't know you. You could be capable of doing anything. Even if you wouldn't, if someone from your church, or posing as so, were to come here and tell you to read me for whatever reason, you wouldn't hesitate, would you?"

"They have to go through the Council to get permission."

"How would you know they hadn't?"

"Because you got to get documentation. Written permission, the seal attached, one just can't saunter up and use me. They know it is more than just their title at risk, that people's souls are." Including his own.

"I see." Well, if he's as simple as he seems to be, then it will be quite a complicated procedure and if anyone wanted to go that far to read her mind--or anyone elses, they would be the real threat, not this puppet. There is plenty for her to argue with him but she's not about to debate dogma. Those focused on the ideas of justice so much that they can't perceive anything else are really not worth her time.

"I don't think I like you very much, Judge-chan." But then, there's not much to him to like-- or dislike for that matter.

The look on his face went blank. "I wasn't born to be liked. I was born to be The Judge." He says this as if he has heard this many times before. Trained and even. "And that is the role I was made to follow."

"That doesn't mean you have to follow it. In any case, this is Luceti--prisoners as we are, you don't have to be stuck to that role unless you choose it."

"I have tried not to, but whenever I get into detail of it. People assume that is it. And they do not realize there is more behind the scenes than their impressions." It was like another person, how someone will change clothes for a job, Luce obviously changed mindsets.

"The world here is muchly self-centered, and don't understand I try to adapt to their customs and accept them even if in the Church's eye they should be Judged. I try to give leeway, like one would do when visiting a country not their own, but others jump to attack here."
