Prescribed Recreation part 3: Chillax'n with a Vengeance

What: Movie night on the beach

Where: The Beach
Summary: After an unfortunate tussle with a Chaos God, work on a farm, a swarm of refugees and stress piled upon stress, sometimes all anyone wants is to sit back and watch classic movies.
Rating: PG for possible adult language
Something that everyone could agree on was this: the past three weeks had been several shades of stressful. What they needed, what they all needed was something mindless and relaxing shared in the company of those they care for in a neutral environment. The beach works well enough, and it's not that far a trip for anyone involved.

[Luke arrives on time, and busies himself setting things up and getting it Artoo placed near the screen to act as a projector. He's spent a little while fiddling with the droid to hook him up to a DVD player. He's dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, basically as casual as he can get, and he's unarmed for the first time since Ami was taken.

He's also brought plates of food, various sweets from the bakery, and some very special meat that he found in the store: dewback steaks, a tasty reminder of home.

He's set up a grill and is cooking up the food, so...anyone who wants some should speak up.]

[Lupin was clearly poking around furtively and deflecting from all problems, but he wanted to have some fun. While snooping was nothing when compared to a water gun fight, it gave him something to do that didn't involve Fujiko bossing him around.]

Steak, Dewback steak in fact.

[Luke flips one over, watching it sizzle]

Something the Malnosso left in the shop. Maybe they felt sorry for us.

After the last couple of months? It's a nice gesture.

[It was something special and something unique--a rare treat.]

The movie idea is a great one, by the way. We should do things like this more often.

[Fat pops and crackles as Luke tosses another on the grill]

The last time went so well, I feel we should do it more often.

Definitely. I know Fujiko has a few ideas for films in mind...and I was wondering if we can do a set up like this as a favor to a friend. Don't think he'd mind everyone else coming, but he wants to have a nice date with his girlfriend.

[A chuckle.]

That's actually why the screen was rigged up in the first place!

Oh? I managed to get this movie, and three others from the shop.

[He turns over a steak]

What does Fujiko have in mind?

Musicals. Or old comedies. Chicago came up, as did Some Like it Hot. They'll be fun, and worth a few laughs.

Ah. Adele and I managed to find...the Indiana Jones films, and a movie called Back to the Future. They seem more...action oriented.

...what is that you are cooking, Luke?

[Adele peered down, it looked somewhat similar to red meat. In a certain light.]

Dewback. Why? Want some?

I have never had Dewback before.

[A beat.]

I would.

[Luke nods and takes out a plate, placing a finished steak on it and handing it over]

Its good. A lot like beef, only leaner. Less fat, more muscle.

Healthier for it, I should think.

[She accepts the plate with a nod of gratitude and fetches herself silverware. It's awkward to cut with but one hand, but she manages. Takes a bite and smiles.]

I think I prefer this to beef, actually.

Good. Its a bit of a rare treat, I think. I've only seen it in the store once before. On my birthday. Maybe its some manner of apology for the trouble they caused last week.

[Luke shrugs]

It was quite a bit of trouble. Perhaps I should check the stores for fresh mussels when I go next.

[The odds of finding them are slim but it would be something. Even if she has no idea how to cook them. She'll just ask Helios.]

Perhaps you'll find them. I do sometimes find other foods from home, but mostly its Earth food. I'm getting used to it by now though.

[After helping Adele set up and running around doing whatever little jobs he can to help out, Steve is finally starting to settle down as almost everything is prepared and ready to go.

He notices Luke at the grill and heads that way.]

Hi. Need a hand with anything?

Hey Steve.

[Luke looks over his shoulder and grins, holding out a plate with a small steak on it]

Sure, mind trying this for me? See what you think?

[neversurrender]

[A brow raises as he looks at the steak for a moment before shrugging and accepting the plate.]

Yeah, sure. [He cuts a piece off and takes a bite, chewing it slowly.] It's really good!

Really? Great.

[Luke smiles, glad his cooking is a success]

Its Dewback, a kind of reptile from my world. Tastes a lot like beef, I think.

Yeah it does...[waitaminute.]

Did you just say...reptile?

I did. I'm from a desert world, remember? Reptiles are more common.

Yeah...right. Of course.

[But now he can't get the imagine of eating a lizard out of his mind.]

It's just not what I'm used to I guess.

Does it taste different, now that you know what it is?

[Luke chuckles. Earth people thought a lot of things were strange...]
