Prescribed Recreation part 3: Chillax'n with a Vengeance

Summary: After an unfortunate tussle with a Chaos God, work on a farm, a swarm of refugees and stress piled upon stress, sometimes all anyone wants is to sit back and watch classic movies.
Rating: PG for possible adult language
Something that everyone could agree on was this: the past three weeks had been several shades of stressful. What they needed, what they all needed was something mindless and relaxing shared in the company of those they care for in a neutral environment. The beach works well enough, and it's not that far a trip for anyone involved.

[She'd be more at home at a concert hall, but this is a chance to spend time - not just with Luke, even, but with her friends. That's always important.]

Yes, it is. I've never been much of a Holovid goer, but if its a chance to spend time with the people I care about.

[He looks up at the film thats just started]

Have you seen this before?

[Ami shakes her head.]

But everyone knows Superman. [She grins. She may not have caught the American movies, but he's definitely become a worldwide phenomena where she's from.]

I only heard of him recently. Adele said that I would enjoy the movies, so I took her at her word.

[He smiles right back and puts an arm around her shoulder, glad for the closeness.]

So far, he seems like an interesting character.

He's very famous in my world. He's a superhero. There are a lot of movies and comic books about him. What did she tell you so far?

That he's the last of his species, and that he's very strong and fast. Um...Faster than a Speeding Bullet and More Powerful than a Locomotive.

[He pauses]

Whats a comic book, and a locomotive? They aren't words I know.

[Unfortunately, Luke has chosen a bibliophile to ask about comics.]

They're books with pictures instead of words. [Fairness compels her to correct herself, at least.] I mean, they have only a few words.

[This does not particularly mean anything about Clark to her; after all, Sailor V was very famous in her world, and she's heard of worlds where the senshi were merchandised. And Sailor V had a video game.]

A locomotive is a train. A fast vehicle for public transportation.

Oh, I understand, we call those Vid-Books back home. And you say that Superman is one of these characters. Alright. So, he could possibly turn up here, in Luceti.

I know what a train is, I've never heard it called a locomotive before. Do you know why its called that?

[Luke, never ask Ami for explanations.]

It comes from Latin. The different parts of the word mean 'place' and 'causing motion'. It's most often used to mean the engine specifically.

[He really doesn't mind!]

I understand. So, Superman is as strong as a train then. That...seems incredible.

They call him the Man of Steel. He's that powerful. But he's really admirable because of what he does for everyone. He's saved them, many times.

Are you familiar with him, then?

I met him here, once or twice, a long time ago. I knew some of his comrades from his home more.

Did you really? Well that...is interesting.

[Luke honestly finds the entire 'pulled from other worlds' bit not that big a deal anymore, but Superman at least seemed like someone who couldn't possibly exist. Live and learn I guess]

Maybe...they'll return someday. Were you friends?

[But Ami shakes her head; she'd barely known him, and only remembers one or two conversations.]

No; I only knew him a little bit. He had different friends.

Ah, well...I suppose thats too bad.

[Luke nods and shrugs, turning his eyes back to the screen, but putting his arm around her shoulder]

You don't mind being close like this, do you? I...don't want to be too forward.

[She shakes her head again, and a faint pink creeps into her cheeks at the admission before she even makes it.]

Actually, I sort of like it like this. [Close. Warm. Comfortable.]

[Luke nods. He doesn't want to make her uncomfortable. Thats not really his way, and he isn't really all that forward himself]

I'm glad. I...like it too. [Its comfortable, and with the seasons preparing to change, its nice to have someone warm]

[It feels... like a date, doesn't it? (She might be more than a little slow as that dawns on her only now.)

Still, Luke probably invited her as his friend, she decides against the evidence.]

After we've seen all of the movie, tell me your favorite part.

[Ami...you should know by now that Luke can somewhat sense your emotions. And when he picks up on that niggling bit of doubt...he can't help it. He feels he has to prove something, that he really does like her. And that this is, in fact, a date.

Luke, all of a sudden just moves closer, and kisses her. No preamble, no leadup. Just...smooch.]

[Ami freezes as her eyes widen in surprise.

(It feels nice.)

... What is she supposed to do? Does she kiss him back now? If she does, should it be on the cheek or... or on the lips? (Is he going to think she's hopelessly naive if she does the wrong thing?)

In the end, so lightly it can barely be felt, she returns a kiss on Luke's cheek.]

[Luke smiles over at her, glad that she had the nerve to do so. He was worried that was far, FAR too forward, but it was an impulse. He slips a hand down to hers and holds it for a long moment, saying nothing]

That was nice, Ami-chan.

[Suddenly, she's not looking at Luke. She's looking anywhere else. Despite that, and the quick, furtive look to make sure no one saw or overheard them, her answer is positive.]

For me, too. I liked it, too.

I'm glad.

[Luke smiles quietly, suppressing a laugh.]

No need to be embarrassed. Its just a kiss.

But, I haven't done that before, so... [In fact, her only experiences with dating and this sort of thing at all have been with Luke.]
