EVENT LOG: SCAVENGER HUNT

Who: All you scavenger hunters!
What: Scavenging and other fantabulousness, I suppose.
When: November 24th to 28th
Where: The whole village! And yet also all over time and space...

As announced by CJ, the village's immediate environs are divided up according to this map. There are five areas: the Nile, Ice Age, Space Opera, Shogunate, and Gangland. Time-and-place appropriate architecture and conjured up NPCs exist in each area.

Don't forget the scavenger hunt! While actually finding things is ultimatly optional, you can find more information on the hunt here. If you want to claim a reward from the hunt, be sure to link at least two related threads on the new rewards claims post.

Finally, here's a quick rundown of the objects:
- In THE NILE: A ceremonial dagger and a piece of Pharoah's treasure
- In GANGLAND: A tommy gun and a set of car keys
- In ICE AGE: A bone spear and a smilodon's tooth
- In SPACE OPERA: a raygun and part of a robot
- In SHOGUNATE: a samurai sword and water from a kappa's head

Hm. [He'll take that as a yes. He reaches into a pocket and pulls out a small flashlight, which he turns on with a twist of his fingers. Happily, it's a more modern build than he's used to, and it illuminates its area of focus with clarity.]

I'm inclined to believe the former. I'm not aware of many trap-laden ruins with forgiving attitudes toward their trespassers. [He gives the passageway a sweep with the light, revealing worn carvings in the wall.]

That is an excellent point! And look! Those carvings must have clues as to what it's used for!

[reminded]

[He inches (centimetres?) along the corridor, scrutinizing the carvings as he does so. He lets the light linger on one particular figure, smiling in recognition as he does so.]

The sun god, Ra. If I recall correctly, he's depicted here riding his solar boat to the underworld.

[wise_maiden]

Is that so?! [She studies the image, and turns her head toward the dark path ahead.] I wonder if that means the tomb is nearby...!

[reminded]

Let's find out, shall we? [He directs the light down the passageway. This woman seems a bit... excitable, but it's nice to find someone so enthusiastic about the pyramids for once.]

By the way, my name is Hershel Layton. How do you do?

! [And as soon as the light is shined in that direction she almost immediately starts to head toward it.]

Raine Sage. Lets get moving! There must be more clues along the way!

[reminded]

[What. What did she say? He hurries after her, careful not to jostle the samples.]

Raine Sage? The head of the school?

[wise_maiden]

Yes, that's correct! Oh look, there's more writing here! [That's clearly more important than say, being head of the school right now.]

[reminded]

[He obediently stops to shine the light on said writing, unable to scratch his head in perplexity as he sorely feels the urge to. Consider his perception jarred.]

I see now what Emil meant when he said you loved ruins. Not that it's a bad thing, of course.

[wise_maiden]

[Hang on, she's pulling out a little notebook to try and jot down the designs on the walls.]

Archaeology is fantastic! There's nothing bad about it!

[reminded]

[Oh. Well he can hardly disagree with that. He lowers the light slightly to better illuminate her notebook.]

I wholeheartedly agree. There is something deeply romantic about the mysteries buried in time, waiting to be discovered after millennia of hibernation.

Seems to me that more people ought to think like you! There are so many untouched discoveries just waiting out there.

[It takes her a little longer than intended to copy down the notations - some of her pages seem to have random creative sketches on drawn out on them interspersed with capturing the facts of what's already there.]

[reminded]

And so little time to see it all. Which is why we had better manage our time as best we can.

[He shifts his flashlight to his bag hand and reaches into a pouch on his belt. Soon there's a click and a flash, then a whirr as his instant camera ejects an instant photo.]

Is that -- is that a camera? [Despite becoming aware of what they are due to Luceti, she still doesn't have any experience with actually using one herself.] Fantastic!!! An accurate way to gather detail and store information!

[reminded]

You're free to use it, if you'd like. I only ask that you allow me to take a look at the photos later. After all, I have my own analysis to conduct as well.

[wise_maiden]

Indeed! What good is discovery if it cannot be shared amongst others?

[reminded]

Splendid.

[And here he'll hand the camera over. Hopefully, this will let her document to her heart's content without taking up too much time... and allow them to reach the pharaoh's tomb sooner rather than later.]

[wise_maiden]

[He might want to stop her before she gets too overenthusiastic and creative with the photos. Being unfamiliar with cameras means being unfamiliar with how much film is left in them... and it would be a shame to lose an opportunity to take pictures of the tomb itself.]

[reminded]

[That sure got out of hand quickly.]

Careful, you must be mindful of the amount of film left inside! There should only be enough for about 20 more photos, and we may have much more to see before the end. Come, let's move on.

[He's beginning to wonder if he bit off more than he can chew with this one.]

[wise_maiden]

There's a limit to what we can photograph?! [What a shame, she was just getting the hang of it. Welp, no time to fret about now. She'll quickly gather the ones she took, and point on in the direction of the tomb with the camera.] Onwards!

[reminded]

Quite. [Onwards... Layton lets the flashlight guide them along the narrow corridor, angling it every so often when he sees something of interest and pausing when it seems Raine wants to take a closer look. He does so patiently, but accompanied by a gentle prod every now and then should their progress get too slow.

Eventually, he comes to a halt out of necessity rather than leisure. He shines his light down the two paths of the abruptly forked corridor, trying in vain to see what lies beyond.]

[wise_maiden]

[Raine frowns, moving ahead to prowl between the entrances to the new corridor. What to do, what to do...] This is horrible! The tomb could be down either of these paths... did we miss any clues?!

[reminded]

[Layton stays put and closes his eyes in thought, trying to remember any hints in the carvings or otherwise.]

Not that I'm aware of. We may have to rely on luck for this one.

[wise_maiden]

Right or left... hmmm. We could scout up ahead one of them to see if there are any new turns, but more traps may be waiting as well.

Still, what is discovery without some risk!

[reminded]

[No risk, no glory? This wouldn't be glory, so to speak, but the words spring to mind unbidden.]

Yes. We either take a chance or turn back, and I don't think either one of us wants to do the latter. We will just have to make a blind choice for now.

[Maybe... right? He takes a couple tentative steps in that direction.]
