Summary: It's a wintertime jamboree. Go ice skating. Hand out gifts to those you love. (Or want to prank, as the case may be.) Deal with meddling, creepy elves. Kiss a lot of people. It'll be good. Except for the parts where it'll be awkward. But that's what we're here for, isn't it?
Rating: Anywhere from PG to R, I imagine. If you need to play out sexytimes, please either fade to black and take it elsewhere or CLEARLY mark the thread in the subject line. (The former is preferable, but not strictly necessary.)

Yeah! I didn't really know anyone last year, so it's like, kind of nice to have people to give stuff to, you know?

Yeah, that's true. We were both new here last year, right? Things change a lot. Granted, I'm just giving everyone the same thing, but still.

Uh, speaking of which -- do you want some? [He reaches into his pack for a bag of cookies.]

O-Oh! Uh, yeah, sure! Thanks!

[She's a little surprised, but pleased all the same. Then she remembers...she shifts around the packages she's carrying to grab one of the cake boxes and offer it to him.]

Here! I've got something for you, too! ...And you're right. We were both new last year. It almost doesn't feel like it's been that long, though, you know?

In some ways, it doesn't. But in other ways, it feels like it's been way longer. At least for me.

[takes box.] Thanks, Pauline.

I get what you mean. I mean, with all the stuff that happens around here, it would make the year feel a little longer...But it also makes it go by faster, kind of? It's kind of hard to put into words, you know?

[She's a little stunned when she hears "Pauline", but then she can't help but bust out into a little giggle fit.]

I didn't think you'd still be calling me that! ...I'd actually been having second thoughts about changing my name, though.

Yeah. Exactly. ['Particularly for you, it seems.'

He raises an eyebrow.]

Really? Don't like Pauline anymore? Or do you like your name better now?

Well. I still think Pauline would be a nice name to have, but...a while ago, someone said my real name sounded kind of...fancy.

I mean, my name still kind of bugs me, knowing where it came from, but it got me thinking that maybe if I start dressing fancier or something, maybe I could start making a whole new impression on people!

[Pilouette claps a hand over her mouth. She hadn't meant to say that. If she had just had a weird name, it wouldn't have been so bad, but the origin of said name was why she spent a good portion of her life hating it. She glances around nervously.]

I mean that...it's like...um...

It's not just that my name is weird but...see...

Uhh...!

[Now that she's said it she can't decide if she should tell him or not.]

[She frowns a little, unsure that Kyon is really appreciating how serious this is. Or how serious she thinks it is. She leans forward a little, lowering her voice to a hiss.]

Hey! Like, I am not joking here! Do you even get that?!

I do get it. Serious business. Come on, Pilouette, pie is very serious in my world. Could you be a little more sensitive?

[ribbonbon]

[She's giving you the frowniest frown right now Kyon. After a moment she glances off to the side, before speaking.]

My name is...I'm named after...

[Halfway through she trails off into a quiet mumble.]

[She drops her voice to a whisper.]

...I'm named after the dog Daddy had as a kid.

[She's stopped whispering by now as this is a sore subject for her.]

People can be named after all kinds of things. I mean, your dad probably misses his dog.

[She lets out a quiet sigh, as if just thinking about this is irritating.]

He probably does miss her, but he didn't name me.

Yeah. Someone who doesn't know how to take a joke! From what I heard, Daddy suggested it, but he wasn't serious! Who can even think something like that is a totally serious suggestion?! But, oh no, it's fine! She though it would be a fine name after even Daddy told her it was a joke!
