Summary: Masaomi seeks guidance from one of the most senior Pokémon trainers after a recent losing streak.
Rating: PG

[It was typical, of course, for Green to be in the forest and training. He had a set schedule, after all, even if his training spots were often a bit varied. Lately, despite the bitter cold, Green had taken to dressing lightly and using a wooden sword himself, practicing his own skills that he hadn't trained as severely since he was a very young child.

He'd swing at his Rhydon to raise its maneuverability, he'd strike at Charizard to teach it to react instead of flinch, and he'd have Scizor train him to be faster and parry blows better. It's important, after all, for a trainer to get more involved - even if Green has been training since childhood.

Masaomi would likely find him along the water today, wearing a t-shirt and light pants and practicing with Scizor at the moment.]

And yet, I'm more skilled than you'd expect. [He does see Green's point, but he does not want to be categorized as weak. It's a complex of sorts, yes, but he's been at this... eleven months, now. So.

Okay no he's totally giving lip.

Linda, for her part, yelps in protest to Rhydon. Meanie]

It's been an interesting experiment on everyone's part, but I'm still saying that you shouldn't be surprised that things are starting to go awry. The advise I can give you is going to be dependent on how far you've taken Linda.

[He turns his attention to Linda!]

Linda! Come here.

[Why should she obey you? She's still annoyed, you know! ...But then, she sighs and with a dramatic little shrug to show what a favor this is for her to come, she comes on over. Masaomi adopts a sort of crooked grin]

[Green very keenly watches the body language. Not just of Linda, but of Masaomi, and he takes quick note of his grin before returning his attention to the pikachu.]

You're a smart Pokémon, aren't you, Linda?

[Most Pokémon are, but that's not quite what Green means. He means it more as in smartass. He continues talking, though it's less directly to Linda and more as though he's talking about her, to her face.]

But a Pokémon like that... I've raised a dozen Pikachu before. What has Masaomi done for this one that makes it different?

[Who said Masaomi did anything! It's not like she's taken elements of her personality from him or anything- in fact, that's an insulting implication, that she'd be influenced by him. She says all this indignantly with gesture and sound before glancing at Masaomi, who is smiling at Green and thus not looking at her-- Linda looks at him briefly like some schoolgirl who can't work out her feelings, but then she's right back to giving a little arrogant tirade about how awesome she is.

Masaomi for his part, just ha a knowing smile through this, watching her in his peripheral vision]

[Green is carefully watching Linda, only briefly glancing to check Masaomi's expression before going back to watching Linda. Interesting.]

And what about you, Masaomi? Why do you train Linda the way you do?

Because she's powerful, Green-san. [He'd normally be much more cautious than she is, and that was the key that got her past the Pichu form- she accepted his weakness and helped him to overcome it, and he accepted her strength and allowed her to flaunt it]

[Green frowns quite severely at that.]

That's irresponsible. When you make a Pokémon powerful, you need to have a firm hand in raising it. That's what being a trainer is all about - it's not about feeding and giving your Pokémon exercise, it's about measuring one another carefully as you both grow. Newbie trainers would do this by going on journeys, depending on their Pokémon as much as their Pokémon depended on them for guidance.

But you've raised this Pikachu to do however she so wishes, and you've made her powerful. And you still understand next to nothing, when it comes to Pokémon.

[While he stomachs that with only a slightly defiant look (he's really not a no-nothing, he isn't) he does reach behind him to make three quick hand signs at Linda, who was already starting to spark. He anticipated her reaction and she makes a little annoyed "Pii" at his back before pouting and comply]

Yeah, well, that's why I have you.

[An ill-tempered and strong Pikachu, and a trainer that can only barely control her. Green is getting frustrated.]

What are you trying to accomplish, Masaomi? What do you want out of your Pokémon?

That's simple. We're getting stronger together to keep up and - one can hope - surpass everyone around us.

[Linda appreciates the surpass part. She nods. They're actually in sync about that]

Why do you want to be stronger? What are you going to do with power?

I'm going to keep up with those friends I have now who are all in another realm than me.

[That's the simple answer, and while it's true, Lidna rolls her eyes, and floats with a Magnet Rise up to Masaomi's shoulder. When she does, she hits him in the back of the head (lightly) with an iron tail and clarifies, with speach and hand motions that they're going to change this world.]

So you're doing this to compete with us.

There's no fast track to strength, Masaomi. You are endangering yourself and maybe even others if you keep going forth with such an irresponsible way of raising Pokémon. I've encountered people like you, before. You don't want to become someone like that.

If it helps, not you specifically. I doubt I'll be hitting your level for years.

[But that's with an irreverent tone. It's an echoing of something Shikamaru said and it... makes sense]

It doesn't help.

Do you feel insignificant? Do you feel as though you have nothing to offer? Or do you feel slighted, knowing that you're not the one in charge?

[...] I've worked hard in the last year and a half, so no. Anyone short of superhuman, I'll kick their ass. But "strong" isn't strong enough in this world.

Not everyone can be the strongest. What if it's not your place to be there?

I don't need to be [...He actually intends for that to be a speech about how he just wants to be on par with Shikamaru and Katara, but Linda chimes in there to protest and cuts him off. Of course it's her place to be, shut up]

I don't trust the motivations you have for getting stronger, but more importantly, I don't think you're a good trainer for that Pokémon. You're basically raising a wild Pokémon, and the people here don't have Pokémon of their own to defend themselves if they must.

[Green stares Masaomi straight in the face, the stern glare locking eyes with his junior.]

I have half a mind to take her away from you altogether. Perhaps I'll raise her, retrain her, and then give her to someone else.

I'm not going to allow that. [It's said simply, and Linda actually adopts a serious expression, agreeing with him. He says it lightly - because frankly, if this came to violence, he couldn't stop Green and he knows it. But he not going to release his partner.]

Her and I are having problems, yes, and I'm here for advice and help from you, but I'm not going to release her to anyone else. Not even you, Green-san. Frankly, I don't think she'd want to comply.

[Or maybe she would - some stuff Silver's told him about trading mechanics is spooky. But, right now, Linda actually chimes in to agree with him.]

My motivations for being stronger aren't complicated, Green. I'm in love with someone so, so much stronger than I am. My best friend is leagues above me as well. I want to remain with them, and so I've got to get at their level. Linda, meanwhile, is even more ambitious than me. I'm going to help her get to the level she wants too. Now, will you help me?

[A beat, and then-]

[Green is not intimidated in the slightest, and he doesn't look any more confident in Masaomi or Linda.]

I'll help you when you've decided to be a Pokémon Trainer, not a pet owner. The relationship between yourself and Linda isn't functional, and it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. If you want to be a Pokémon Trainer, then you will follow my instruction to the letter!

[He's got no confidence that he would intimidate him. But you know what-] Fine, I can follow orders.

[He chafes at them, actually, but he's willing to allow Green his power trip if it'll help him. Which he is, well, confident it will. Green's the strongest trainer here.]

You will have to. Giving and receiving orders is a part of the relationship between trainers, and between them and their Pokémon. Linda may not like it, but she has no choice. She must obey your orders and you must learn to understand how to guide her every move.

I don't mean to be childish, but I don't think Gold adheres to that 100%.

[Mostly, he's just saying this to see what Green says. He's not trying to contradict him - it's half to have a response and half to pacify Linda's bristling he can sense already]
