[She's not sure what to make of that quick explanation, but it still doesn't do much to quell those feelings growing inside her. For her part, she tries not to let it show.]

...and if that good friend had been a boy? Do you think... it would have stood out as much?

[She...has tried to put that mess with Harry out of her mind. He was old enough to be her father, he couldn't like her like that. And...he was gone. What had happened with Lirael...that was different.]

I...wouldn't have been able to let go with a boy. Not...like that.

[Rei smiles softly, her heartbeat quickening. Was Kari hinting at what she thought she was hinting at? Did she...feel that way about her? Could she?

Regardless of all this, they've definitely reached the shrine by now...a place that set her mind much more at ease. A...much more romantic setting too... she thought to herself.]

[Oh, that smile. She can't take her eyes off of it. She can feel her own heart beating faster, triggering (unbeknownst to her) a small increase in her magic's hold on her. Not at all unlike what happened that night with Teruko, prior to being taken over...]

[But there was no danger of that here. No danger of suddenly being attacked. And no danger of being possessed. The only danger here was the risk of potentially making a fool of herself, but in that moment, suddenly that risk seemed like nothing in the face of what there was to gain.]

[And then she's being kissed. Rei closes her eyes and returns it happily. She...hadn't intended for things to go this way, but this felt right. Nice. Kari was a good friend. She was a sweet girl. And...well...she wasn't one to balk in front of new experiences. No mistletoe this time, and nothing to prove.

This was just...nice. And Rei was reluctant to pull away. So, she doesn't. Not yet.]

And suddenly Kari is looking so handsome...!

[In the list of things Kari had been expecting out of today, this was far from anything that could possibly be included... and yet here they were.]

[There's a part of her than knows this may not mean anything and may not go anywhere, and a smaller part of her that still can't help but think of Teruko back home... but all the same, in this instant, the only thing she wants to think about it this kiss.]

[After a long and lingering moment, she pulls away, a smile on her face. And with a lack of something better to say--] ...how was that?

[When Kari pulls back, Rei's smiling and a little breathless. That was very nice, she thought. But...had she been too forward? That felt like something Minako might do. And it wasn't proper.]

That was...very nice, Kari-chan.

[Rei takes the third meaning, and this time leans forward for a second kiss. A happy smile plays across her lips as she does so too.

Unexpected turn for the day, but this is wonderful. Enough to make her forget the last few weeks.]

[The third meaning just so happened to have been the one Kari was gunning for! And with her free hand, she reaches around Rei's lower back, leaning into a sort-of-almost half-embrace.]

[The kiss was soft and gentle and everything Kari thought it would be... why hadn't she acted on this sooner? Certainly, she always thought that Rei was very pretty, but somehow she'd never really thought of her quite like this. She doesn't want this moment to end.]

[Good thing too. Rei replied in kind, arm reaching around to hold the girl in a full embrace.

After a moment though, she did...reluctantly...break the kiss, but not the embrace. It was very, very nice. A perfect moment.]
