This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

He's had much worse. This discomfort is easily ignored, along with the stares of other people as he quickly and lightly weaves his way through the arriving crowds, using his Haki to predict peoples' movements before they make them.

It opens himself up to something that's much harder to ignore, especially with the power cap off him. The life energy and emotions of thousands pressing in. It's nearly too much to bear, but he must, and he slowly adjusts because he needs to.

There's something else in the air. An energy, teasing the limits of his perceptions like a deep ocean current running under the bright sea of humanity. It is strange and alien and perhaps a little familiar to what he felt in that portal room.

It's hard to find an empty, windowless room, but Law does. Admittedly it's more of an dingy alcove, but what works works. He gently puts her down.

"This place should be safe, Adele."

That just shows your Captains were good at bluffing. [She gives him a wry look.] Sometimes I think that might be half the job. What is it that has you nervous?

Natasha Romanoff. And no, I don't think we have, although I've seen you around. [Her knack at remembering faces often comes in handy for that.]

Ahh. [There's understanding in Natasha's voice as she hums, giving Buffy a slight nod.] I know how that is.

[He adjusts his grip automatically at the instruction before turning to look at who gave it. When he does, he smiles and nods his thanks.]

I'm used to fighting unarmed or with throwing knives. The sword is new.

The remarks had been made largely in dry humor, but Layton wasn't mean-spirited enough to allude to that.

"I suppose it's easier to look back in kindness once you've been thrown from the lap of luxury," he said, his smile turning mildly lopsided. He reached into his coat and pulled out a perfectly red apple, setting it by the stem next to Bil's plate. "A thank you, if I may."

A pleasure, Diamond. Feel free to have a seat; I don't believe anyone has claimed that bunk yet. [He gestures to the one adjacent to his.]

[Cilan sits down across from Emmet--he doesn't have a tray of food with him, indicating he might have already eaten at some point or...didn't yet. (Which, if it's the latter, it would make what he's about to say sound hypocritical) But he notes that Emmet doesn't seem to be eating and speaks up now with a slight sigh, hopefully not startling him if the other hasn't noticed him sitting there yet--]

I know the food isn't something you could call having a considerably filling taste, but I do think it would be better to eat a little more--having an empty stomach isn't particularly desirable and I doubt it will do anything to help the tension... [It may or may not make you feel worse later...]

I use throwing knives mostly. [And they're displayed up and down her chest, each one in its own spot on her vest. A hunting knife sits on her hip.]

But I learned a little about how to use a sword. And someone I know uses one pretty well. You don't look too bad at it.

[She's not even going to pretend that needles aren't kind of scary, but considering what they're dealing with...]

Like, are you serious?! You like, totally almost gave me a heart attack or something! Besides, it's not like it's a big deal, right? Whatever it's for, it's probably like, for the best to just do it.

[Pilouette doesn't know this guy and is kind of just assuming that his current skin color is natural. She's seen stranger, after all.]

She doesn't move much as they walk. Doesn't speak, doesn't do anything more than breathe and remind herself that this is just another draft, they're on the ground, she's as safe as she's ever been in this place. For what won't be the last time she's glad she brought additional medication. Even if this is what she has to look forward to and it helps so very little, it's worth something. It'd be worse without.

Even somewhere quiet, somewhere dimmer she huddles in on herself and leans back until she's against the nearest wall. Focuses on that for a long while and takes slow, even breaths. She's still trembling all over, but her breathing isn't as ragged as it had been before.

In simplest terms, I believe they are to fight, or not to fight. Going further, to kill, or not to kill. When you have a sword pointed at your throat and an unyielding opponent at its grip, I suppose it may seem that killing him would be your only option, but it isn't so. The best option for your survival, undoubtedly, but there is no law stating that survival is sacred above all else.

[Pilouette can't help but feel the tiniest bit bitter. She's had more than one person outright tell her to stay with someone who can protect her or to offer protection themselves. She knows full well that they were all right, Raine included, and that they probably told that to all non-combatants. Still...it seems like everything she experiences in Luceti serves to make her feel just a bit more powerless.

She does her best not to let on and, instead, gives a firm nod. This isn't a time for her to prove her uselessness.]

R-Right...It would be pretty bad if I caught on my own. If I was, there wouldn't be much I'd be able to do. I'll have to do my best to stay safe and just...do whatever I'm asked, I guess. They'll probably need all the extra hands they can get.

"I'm-"

[Oh, good, now she felt like she was going to throw up. Wonderful.]

"-I'm fine. I came here straight from a training camp, is all. I'll be fine."

"It's not a big deal. I'll manage."

[She can't be this out of shape, honestly. It hasn't been that long since she was fighting like this every week of her life. She should be better than this.]

"How, uh. How high up do you think we are?"

Before this started happening, two events occurred: My Haki awoke and that experiment where people visited other worlds and came back different versions of themselves.

... I didn't know anything was amiss until I walked into the Smithy, pickec up a tag to put it aside, and got a surprise. I teleported it out before it could level the building.

I've touched tags before - the Halloween when the moon fell. There was no incident then.

"No problem."

He lets her adjust and breathe and get her bearings as best she can, before laying a gentle hand on her shoulder, careful not to startle her.

"Are you going to be okay alone for a little bit while I get Itachi? I promise I will be back with him as soon as possible."

He's already mentally reaching for his lover's presence, shifting through the bright sea to find his soul.

[He nods, relaxing almost imperceptibly.]

Is your magic very potent? I've found it difficult to gauge the strength of a healing spell without the proper injuries to measure them by... which sounds overly clinical of me, I realize.

So you recognize them. [Not the first, since there were a few in Luceti he was aware of that knew of artes, but still not from the same world. He'll also ignore the clumsy remark, as they were admittedly unimpressive.]

My artes were affected by a shift when we were transferred out of Luceti.

[Xzana extends her larger wings out in an attempt to make herself look big and threatening. She doesn't know where she is so best to just assume everyone is out to hurt her at the moment.]

I am no human. [She just wants to make that clear. Some have apparently thought she was, despite her claws, fangs, and scales.

She continues the low growl as she speaks. Right now just a warning. These people do smell like the place she came from, but better safe than sorry.]

I hope so. It would be pretty stupid of them to bring people here only to put them out of commission before a fight.

[Even worse if they thought they still could send sick people into combat. But from the announcement, it seemed like they had very few scruples to begin with.]

Fuuko is sure you will do a good job out there. But don't worry! If something horrible happens then Fuuko will be here to make sure you're okay.

[She's hoping that sounds as reassuring to Ven as it does to her. Hopefully nothing horrible will happen in the first place.]
