This post covers the first day, before the attack. Remember, characters here are not expecting an attack and are under the impression they will be going to Region 1 to fight. During this day, draftees will be restricted to T6 and T7 and not permitted access to other areas.

"Fascinating." Now that was some power he'd like to investigate. And he was rather find of vengeance himself, even if others had begun to talk him out of specific plans. "Though I don't suppose she's here. How does one become a demon? I haven't heard of that add such before."

[herotypical]

"There are all kind of ways and -- honestly? Few of them are at all pleasant. In Anya's case, it took a particularly influential vengeance demon to notice how creatively she dealt with her pain. He offered a job -- goodbye mortality, hello fatalities. Despite the ick-factor, it's one of the kinder ways to go demon."

[complicatedliar]

"Hm, interesting indeed. In my experience beings such as that are quite stingy about sharing their power. But we've already established our worlds are quite different." He tilted his head. "What ways are less... kind?"

[herotypical]

"Being sired by a vampire seems to have very little in the way of perks."

[complicatedliar]

"Huh. So in your home universe, vampires are demons?" He looked amused. "Reality can't seen to agree with itself what those things are. It doesn't seem to have that trouble with any other species."

[herotypical]

"Mmhm. Demons. One vampire sires another, their soul skidaddles and the demon sets up shop. It's their face and their voice and their memories but...it's not really them. Not completely."

[complicatedliar]

"Interesting. What happens to the souls?"

[herotypical]

"That might just be the million dollar question, Loki. They're not irretrievable. I've personally known the only two vampires who've ever managed to regain what they lost. It's rare, but it can happen. So they don't disappear entirely."

[complicatedliar]

"An interesting problem indeed. And I imagine the souls in question do not recall where they've been? Curious, that. Though why would a vampire want their soul back? They seem a tiresomely, pointlessly nihilistic lot."

[herotypical]

"He wouldn't. At least, not usually. But it's apparently a very effective way of cursing one to finally feel the weight of his sins."

She grew reticent. Vague. Though it isn't Angel's motives she's hiding. Instead, she's loath to talk about the second vampire and the reasons why he'd want his soul.

[complicatedliar]

"Interesting. I didn't know that was an effect of having a soul. It certainly doesn't seem to bother other people." And of course hinges on the definition of sin and a belief in the existence of good and evil.

Loki is in favor of neutral. The universe doesn't give a toss about anyone; at this point he doesn't see why he should in a general sense either.

[herotypical]

"I think it depends not just a little upon what that soul was like to begin with -- the implication being that the death and carnage and horrors he committed in his unlife were things he would have at least shied away from in life. And when he got the soul back, it all caught up with him."

[complicatedliar]

"Huh. It's all a bit fuzzy, then." Loki of course knew that there was an immortal spirit of varying strengths that belonged to living creatures; that was fairly basic magical theory. But the effect of it was always a more interesting question. "So it made him feel quite guilty, I take it?"

[herotypical]

"Guilty. Shamed. All kinds of unhappy. That was the point, I guess. To punish him. Eventually, he learned to be grateful for the soul. He switched sides. That's how I met him."

[complicatedliar]

"Grateful, hm? What did it give him, other than a fine helping of guilt?"

[herotypical]

"A place to channel his guilt. A purpose. Most importantly, I suppose, a mission. Tangible baddies to fight and a place where he could try and belong."

And love, but that was personal.

[complicatedliar]

"Ah, and he lacked those things before?" Well, different universes, he supposed. He knew he had a soul of his own, and it had never done any of those things for him. Well, he didn't bother with guilt even to begin with.

[herotypical]

"I suppose so. You gotta understand, I didn't...I mean -- I'm taking his word for it. He got his soul back a century before I ever met him. And it took him that long to figure out what to do with himself. It's..."

There had been a time, of course, when she had seen him sans-soul. But she wasn't going to mention that. "The way he tells it, all before was nihilism."

[complicatedliar]

"Ah. I see. So you wouldn't necessarily know the answers to more detailed questions. 'Tis fair enough."

He snorts. "Ah. Nihilism. I have heard vampires seem to have a thing about that across universes. Interesting commonalities."

[herotypical]

"They certainly have a knack for wanting to end the world..." She said with a whole lot of pointed sarcasm she didn't realize he couldn't hear.

[complicatedliar]

"That is what I do not understand. Why would one want to end the world? It is where one... ah... keeps one's things. And if there's the normal sort of villainous goals, destroying a world is very counterproductive in light of trying to rule it or enslave humanity or make all the ice cream go sour or whatever it is bad people do."

[herotypical]

"You do understand the point of being nihilistic, right? It's not about wants or goals."

[complicatedliar]

"I think I must not. I don't really comprehend not having an overriding goal. Unless it's a matter of stupidity, I suppose."

[herotypical]

"In Angel's case, the history books said he really liked to play the scourge. Massacres. Torture. Terror. Grand plots to raise terrible demons. Baby-eating."

[complicatedliar]

"But to what end?"
