Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[On the first day, Raine is still herself, and she knows this is familiar - after all, it's even referenced in the guide as happening four years ago.

What she has, however, is a lack of people to discuss the situation with. People to warn properly - most seem to be letting it get to their heads, and she knows from experience that ... sometimes it can't really be avoided.

Law seems to be one of the obvious choices to look for, considering the recent meeting... if she can find him, that is.]

[... speaking of letting get to one's head.

There's Law at one of the tables, nursing a cup of tea and watching the passing traffic through the windows with a distant but fixed expression. Which isn't the only noticeable thing about him. No, there's the great white wings with the rainbow iridescence, and the subtle way he seems brighter than anyone else in the room.

Like he's giving off his own light.

Itachi is likely either with him or nearby. If Raine spots the ninja anywhere, it's obvious he also has been possessed, but with Sona.]

Hello, Miss Raine.

[The tea shop. Raine hadn't expected to see Law there, all told, but it makes tracking him down easier. The nearby ninja won't be difficult to spot either, with such large wings.

And they're far from the only ones by this point.

Damn.]

... Law. Someone got you first, I see. [Someone. Something. It was vaguely jarring, not being possessed. Yet, at least.] Do you feel... in control of yourself at all?

[He seems to take a moment to consider that.]

I'm ultimately in control, yes. [There's a very subtle note of unhappiness. Law isn't enjoying the experience at all.] It's influence is very strong, though.

It's the spirits... I'm not certain what's promoted this situation just yet, but I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. The situation from four years ago seems to be happening all over again. [Save for one obvious difference that she is trying to get to the bottom of while she can.]

But with another spirit in the mix. [He's noticed. In fact, he's going to return to staring out that window, nearly unblinking. Searching.] Dark.

[Then indifference shatters into sheer loathing.]

It is not to be trusted.

... Do you know anything else about the new one? The changes seemed to happen overnight, for no reason... no one seems to have any ideas of how it came about.

[Just the single minded distrust of it, for the most part.]

Hyt hates it.

[He resists the urge to look back out the window.]

The only events I can think of in the last little while happening is our visitors and the revelation of the new levels in the tunnel complex. Either could be a trigger, or it could be all unrelated.

The last time this happened, it was a worldwide issue, or so we were told. Some shift that had gone wrong, or out of control...

[Still, this new one was strange. She needed more information.]

It's for the aspects of darkness itself, isn't it? Perhaps that's why it is Hyt's opposite. [Even though it was a strange thought of the Hyt spirit to be firmly against something when he seemed largely neutral and unconcerned with others. Particularly avoiding others.

They really understood so little about them.]

Maybe... It's not giving me more than absolute loathing. [Not. That. Law is on good communicating terms with the spirit influencing him right now. Unwilling possession and all.] Could be it hates it for what it is or what it's done.

I don't know yet.

Everyone and everything else it doesn't care about. It may interest Hyt for a while, but ultimately it can't be bothered one way or another. This is its focus if nothing else.

That seems extreme, especially for Hyt. I suppose for now, all we can do is continue to observe until we find new information. Perhaps the tunnels can be examined again...

[She won't speak of the others she saw possessed by the new dark spirit - conflict seems best avoided that way.]

To hate something that much? [No. It doesn't to Law. He was like that too, once upon a time when he entered Luceti. Good at covering it up. ... but.] ... no, no... I... don't think so.

I'd think I'd like to go down there again if they're being examined. [And the emotion leeches out of his face - his eyes taking on the penetrating stare once more, and he looks out the window once more to the street.]

Would be peaceful.

You're... compromised right now. [So even if it is true that Hyt has an extreme aversion, it might be better for him not to be wholly involved.]

Still, it's a thought to keep in mind.

I know.

[But going down to the tunnels might bring a measure of relief. Hyt blocked from his mind. The thought is blasted away as he sees someone with black wings go by, and he has to grip the table to keep himself from going after the person and following them.

He closes his eyes and forces himself to breathe.]

... I'll be glad when this is over.

And how many people aren't compromised?

[This response is snapped out, unusual for the ninja, and he shuts his mouth immediately afterward, taking a few deep breaths to calm himself and return to Sona's usual coolness.

He's stepped closer from where he was on the other side of the room, sitting down next to the pirate.]

I have seen very few people who are unaffected thus far. Whether or not it will remain that way... [She shakes her head.]

For now, I'll try looking into the matter as best as I can. If you find yourself feeling aggression towards the others, try to keep as disengaged from them as possible.

[Law slowly turns to stare. Tilts his head, frowns a little, and then lays his hand on top of Itachi's.

... easier said than done, though, Raine. He does, however, nod to the statement.]

Most spirits, from what I've seen so far, are unhappy with the darker one. The new one.

This whole matter of possession, in fact, is likely related to its appearance in some way.

[He's completely collected again, the coldness seeping back into his voice.]

So you believe that the spirits are acting on their own, instead of a shift prompting them. Except that the catalyst, in this case, is the appearance of the new spirit... hm.

[Probably, yeah. When you think of it.

Not that Law says this. He nods again, but without direct engagement, it's much easier to sink more into Hyt's mannerisms.

Such as being a silent observer in a group conversation.]

It seems very likely, but this is only speculation.

As there is a precedent, this could still be a variation on that.

[Though he's hoping one theory doesn't mean having to put down the possessed.]

There are too many options right now. I'm hoping that the source I plan to contact next will have more conclusive information for me.

[Itachi would like to know who this source is too, but he lets Law ask the question for him. Raine has silent leave to continue.]

... Indeed. It was through negotiations that he was able to develop a cure last time, so I'll find out if he's aware of the situation now, and if there's anything we can do in the meantime.

[Which probably would amount to 'wait and see', in the long run.]
