Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[Twila slips in without so much as a word at first, settling herself into that empty place where Lambda used to be for so many years. It makes him feel just a little less hollow, somehow, having something else there again, especially with everything that's been happening lately. If he pays attention, he feels like he can hear a soft voice murmuring to him much like Lambda did, telling him that it's all right, that he doesn't need to be alone any longer, and that those other humans are all the same. Everyone always leaves you alone, don't they, you poor, sweet thing? You deserve much better than that. It's all right; you don't need them when all they're going to do is hurt you again.

They'll all abandon him in the end, just as it has always been. But this warmth, this other presence, it won't. Because it understands. And Richard clings to that promise, that warmth, and lets it in, lets it have free reign because it understands him the same way Lambda did. They won't be alone as long as they have each other.

His wings grow larger, jet black, and he revels in that change. It's proof that he's special enough to be chosen by this being. Let everyone else think what they want. It doesn't matter anymore.

But it might be nice if he could get other people to understand just how wonderful he feels right now... because of that, he's willing to leave the house for the first time in days and wander the village in the evening in the hopes of finding anyone else who might want to share in this feeling.

Later in the week, after he's been freed from Twila's influence, Kipinn takes over, and Richard is back to his normal self. Well, mostly. He's actually HAPPY for a change, and more mischievous and playful than he is even on the best of days when not being influenced by the spirit. Which is probably rather unfortunate for the rest of his household or anyone who happens to cross his path during this time...

[The evening found Barnaby sitting on the rooftop of one of the apartment complexes, staring off into the night sky as he tried to will away the dreams of endless flames. He couldn't sleep peacefully with the weight on his back. When he did, it was fitful and punctuated with sudden awakenings and memories that he didn't care to revisit. Luceti had been quiet for him thus far. He could almost forget about the small wings.

Why had it changed so suddenly?

But insomnia was an old friend. He'd rather spend the evenings with it rather than with what lurked behind his closed eyes. He'd rather think as clearly as he could.

That was why he was testing himself that night. He theorized that the dreams could subside as he gained control of these new powers that were thrust upon him, and he planned to test it out.

The darkness of the rooftop was invaded by brief flickers of sparks as Barnaby tried out his flames. The attempts were still small, limited to the tips of his fingers or the palm of his hand, but it was enough of a start.

It refined his focus and streamlined his thinking. He felt more in control of himself, even if this was one of those 'shifts' he had read about.]

[Ah, just the sort of person Richard has been looking for. This person isn't up here just to play with his newfound abilities, oh no-- insomnia is an old friend to Richard too, and he recognizes a kindred spirit when he sees one. But this is perfect, because being tired will make the man more easily suggestible, and his own powers are heightened at this hour. It's really an ideal scenario.

He alights some distance behind the other blond, not wishing to surprise him by landing too close. Besides, this will give him a chance to size the stranger up while he initiates conversation.]

How fascinating. You seem to be a natural at this already.

Hardly.

[He peeked over his shoulder and around his wings at the stranger that had landed not far behind him, clearly less than impressed with the little progress that he had made. Larger flames were easier to call forth and easier to use on the fly, but that required no thought. It was the difference between dumping an entire bucked of water into the garden and letting it drip, one at a time, onto the leaf of a flower.

There was still a long way for him to go.

Barnaby snuffed out the flames and stood up to properly face the stranger, carefully controlling the bristling discomfort that lurked just on the edge of his awareness. This was no time to act impulsively.]

I haven't studied magic like this before, but many people around here can probably say the same.

[Richard just smiles, seemingly all innocence, black wings folded gracefully behind him. The interest he shows in those flames isn't all fake; the part of him that is still himself is indeed intrigued by them and by those fiery orange wings this fellow is sporting. That will make this more difficult, he realizes.]

That makes your ability that much more impressive. There aren't many who can call up flames with such ease after so little practice.

As I said. This is hardly worth any note.

[He sighed, but remained on his guard. This stranger's interest had earned his own curiosity-- but those wings, black as the shadows behind the moon-- made something bristle in the back of his mind. He wasn't entirely conscious of the depth of the situation, but Barnaby was intelligent enough to wonder if there were more effects than just the powers and the wings.

Everyone that currently had large wings in the enclosure had some kind of power. What was this man's?]

I don't believe we've met before tonight. Is there something I can help you with?

[Richard will find himself with a silent stalker. He tells himself it's to keep an eye on the Twila possessed king, and that appeases the Hyt part of himself while letting him maintain that connection on a basic level.

It's a warped version of friendship, but he prefers this to outright attacking the blond.

So he'll hang around just within sight, often to be caught just out of the corner of the eye, easily lost in a glare of sunlight.]

[Richard has found himself liking the sunlight less and less lately. It makes his skin prickle unpleasantly, and thus he tends to stick to the shadows on the rare occasions when he does leave the house during the daytime.

That isn't the only thing making his skin prickle, though. He's well aware of that pair of eyes watching him and that other presence, the one that whatever is inside of him doesn't like. He tolerates it for a few days because he has other, more important things to focus on. At last, though, he decides he's had enough, and whirls around to face his stalker with an accusatory glare.]

How long do you plan on following me like this?

[Isamu says nothing, but takes a few slow steps forward, the corners of his mouth twisting upward into a smile. Not exactly a friendly one, though part of him means for it to be.

The answer is "until he can find out how to fix you".]

[Richard's wings fluff out slightly, then settle, Twila's way of showing that she doesn't appreciate Hyt's presence here. She knows what he's trying to do, and that knowledge transfers to Richard by extension.]

I don't need you to intervene. You aren't wanted here.

[Hyt!Isamu clearly doesn't care whether he's wanted or not.

He continues to approach the other man, stopping again after a bit further to hold his arms out as though asking for a hug.]

[Look, Richard. It's your best friend, out in the village. Asbel actually spots Richard from a distance, and personally approaches him, surprised to see him out in the village.]

Richard! Are you feeling alright now?

Twila

[Oh, he's happy to see you, Asbel. Asbel is one of the few people who has always been so kind to him; he would hate to see him get left behind or ignored. Repaying the favor, so to speak.

Richard slips close like a shadow, smiling at his friend. But there's a jagged edge to that smile beneath the sweetness on top.]

Yes, as a matter of fact, I'm feeling better than I have in weeks. How kind of you to ask, Asbel.

[Right away, it's like a siren's going off in Asbel's head. Something telling him there's nothing wrong with Richard. By this point, he's become aware of the relationship he now holds with Tsinku, and it's practically screaming at him that there's something wrong right now.

But he knows not to act rashly. This is Richard. Even if there's something wrong with Richard... he's still his friend. If there's something wrong, then he'll do what he can to help him.]

That's good to hear. You've had me worried with how depressed you've been lately.

[At the mention of that, Twila stirs within him, reminding him of just why it is that he has been depressed in the first place.

People abandon him. He grows to like them, eventually even place his trust in them, and what happens? Then they leave, and he's left all alone yet again. Because no one, no one, would want someone as broken as he is. No one but her, that is. She understands. And she won't ever let him be alone again.]

Forgive me-- I had no idea it worried you so much.

[Such kind words on Asbel's part... too bad they're a lie. They must be.]

Why don't you share some of that creepy Twila philosphy on Henry?

[Henry's been unaffected by the spirits for the most part. The small part being just watching everyone seemingly acting more strange over this whole spirit outbreak thing.

Henry for the most part has been lying low, gathering what little information he can. That is until he see's Richard walking about. Maybe Richard was still okay. If so, he needed his king friend to help with this important mission!

The boy approaches him, still not catching sight of the black wings yet.]

No Henry no

[Richard's lips curl upwards into a smile when he spots the boy approaching, acting for all the world as if there's nothing wrong and he's just his normal self. Just be a good boy and ignore those black wings there, Henry, won't you?]

Henry. How have you been lately? Unaffected by everything that's been happening, I hope?

[Now that he's actually closer, Henry does take note of the black wings. Richard didn't normally have black ones did he? And even so they weren't supposed to be that big.

Uh oh. Something wasn't right here.

But, in order to hide his suspicions he tries to remain completely neutral.]


I've been okay. Nothing's weird has happened to me yet. What about you?

[Because those are some mighty big wings you have Rich.]

It's strange, but lately I've been feeling better than I have for a long time. Perhaps it has something to do with summer being on its way. It is hard to want to remain indoors with such pleasant weather outside.

[Although he doesn't really like it himself right now; it's far too bright for his tastes.]

Combo-breaking with Kipinn! Is Day 3 late enough?

[Now, Richard, you wouldn't prank Grune of all people, would you? Not when she's innocently flying into the village on her way to the flower shop to do a little bit of tending to its wares.

Of course, if you would, she hasn't noticed you yet, so you have the perfect opportunity to try something....]

[No, normally he wouldn't. But now... well, let's just say that Kipinn is making mischief seem just that much more alluring to him, and Grune seems like the perfect target right about now.

Hmm, how to go about this...

Perhaps summoning up a small gust of wind to surprise her would be a good way to start things off?]

[This would be a good way to start, because it does just that! Grune lets out a mild "Oh!", which is pretty much vast amounts of surprise for her. The only problem is, it also has the side effect of flipping up her skirt--not all the way, but anybody who happens to be looking up at the moment will get a view of some pretty great legs. Whoops.]

[... whoops, Richard sort of forgot that skirts have a tendency to do that when exposed to wind. SORRY GRUNE. At least it wasn't on purpose and he isn't going to be ogling, so there's always that.

He will be laughing a bit, however, which will probably alert her to his presence nearby. So much for being stealthy during all of this.]

[Two people depart in the middle of the day. If one highly fashionable Kipinn-possessed man with fabulous hair is heading towards one direction at a constant rate, and one not so fabulously dressed Faeren-possessed boy is heading the same way at a slower pace, where and how long until the two eventually cross paths?

Who knows. But if nothing's done soon, there is a high chance the two are bound to collide. Especially when the boy's carrying what seems to be... quite the load, and not quite paying attention to what's ahead of him either. Not a good thing when you're carrying very fragile potted plants.]

[Kipinn's influence may have upped his mischievousness quotient, but Richard is still Richard, and smashing someone's potted plants isn't exactly his idea of fun. As tempting as it may be, he'll step out of the way with a light chuckle, though he can't help causing a slight breeze to swirl around Rudy in the process just to have a little bit of fun with the situation.]
