Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

Jack may have developed large wings, but he'd flown before. Certainly he was willing to take flight again, but it hardly matched the ability to fly he had as Jack Frost, a god who needed no wings to get around. Still, it was convenient. Beyond that, Jack was making good on a bet with Buffy to be on his best behavior and he was finding it remarkably easy lately. In fact, at times, he felt as though he genuinely wanted to help people and wasn't just out to prove Buffy wrong.

But it was most likely he just wanted to make Buffy wrong.

All the same, Jack does his shifts at the bar as a remarkably friendly bartender who is willing to share a friendly ear to people's ridiculous problems. When he's not bartending, he finds himself keeping a keen eye for anyone in distress or just injured because, well, he's immortal. He has as much life as a person can hope to give. It's the new, gentler Jack Horner. And he's perfect.

He's even more of a prick than before.

...She watched him from across the bar, a glass propped up in one hand as she furiously swabbed it out with a damp cloth. Look at him, she thought, swanning around with his big old stupid wings. Lately, it felt like so many of the people in her life just...couldn't settle on being who they were supposed to be. In fact, it was entirely possible that she was even more annoyed by Jack Horner in his current state.

It caused her to be over critical: "Next time," she called across an emptying bar as the last few patrons took their leave, "you should try actually serving drinks instead of just talking over them."

An unfair requestion, for sure, from a woman who just last week demanded that he be nicer. But Buffy and mixed signals got along like salt and caramel.

Jack was busy cleaning a glass when he received his chastising. He took it graciously with a small apologetic shrug.

"Sorry, but you know people! They want to talk and you can't just walk away from that."

...Huh. She wondered whether he was just very good at this whole wager thing. Or could the spirit-based chaos truly be to blame? Buffy eyed his wider wings with unabashed wariness.

"What do they wanna talk about?"

"Just things. It's not important. How about you? Feeling okay?"

What passed behind his eyes was the strangest of things. Actual concern.

"Of course," she lied out of habit more than of a genuine desire to deceive him. It was just easier to try and detour around his...sudden desire to ask about her well-being in any kind of a meaningful way. "But are you sure that you're feeling alright?"

"Buffy, I feel like a million dollar bill. But are you sure you're fine? Achy feet, maybe? I can fix that."

"Million dollar bills are f--"

Fake.

"Wait. Are you offering me a foot rub?"

He raise an eyebrow. "Well, I'm sure that would be enjoyable for both of us. But I was thinking I could have the same effects with a bit of magic."

Her body language veered so sharply into snobbish that she as good as lifted her nose at the prospect of him getting his grubby magical aura all over her. Yuck.

"I'm not that kind of girl. You think I let just anyone's mojo into my personal space? I have standards. Besides, you're hardly acting like yourself. I don't think I should trust you."

"I just want to help. Isn't that something to be encouraged?"

"...But why is it, exactly, that you're trying to help me? Of all people...

Is this about the wager?"

"The wager was a good idea. But it's more than that. Of all people, who would I want to help more than you?"

Somehow Asch and Jack have managed to dodge each other (unintentionally or otherwise) on their bar shifts, but today is the day that luck runs out. As soon as Asch enters the bar and spots the man, he beelines for the counter and glowers at his co-worker. He hasn't forgiven him for the incident with Clem, even with his own connection with Nala inwardly trying to ease his frustrations.

"You. What the hell were you doing, telling that little girl that I needed to screw a cow!?"

Jack was in the middle of cleaning a glass when he was interrupted. Calmly he put the glass away and faced Asch with that looked like regret.

"Talked to you, did she? Well, rest assured, that was not my intention. I wouldn't hook you up with a cow, champ."

[dissonates]

That... actually slightly mollifies Asch, though he's genuinely surprised to discover this. He appears puzzled for a moment, then shrugs it off. "What were you trying to do, then? How did it even involve a cow?"

He shook his head and looked genuinely remorseful as he admitted the following. "I'll admit it. You looked down, so I tried to find you a lady friend. I didn't do it the most tactful way, I'll admit it. Little Clemmy misconstrued a few things and took it in her own hands."

This is a side of Jack he's never witnessed before. It's surreal, actually, but also something of a relief. Asch finally relaxes enough to sit down at the bar, brows furrowed. "That's... generous of you, I guess. But it wasn't necessary. I'm fine on my own."

Jack rested his hands on the counter, momentarily fighting off he urge to touch a hand on Asch's as his sense of self preservation cried out 'no homo!' But Jack nodded in understanding.

"Are you, though? I've been around a long time, Asch. The worst parts of it were when I was alone. It's not good for you."

Asch looks uncomfortable at that, and while normally he'd conceal it, betweel Jack's unusually calming presence and Nala's voice in his mind, he doesn't feel the need.

"I have a roommate." Who's current AU'd so she doesn't remember him the same way. "And Luke's come back from our world again." But he doesn't know everything yet.

But he's fine, really.

"But are they there for you? When it really matters?" Sure, Jack knew nothing about these people. But it didn't really seem to Jack like that was enough.

How does one get more there than Luke, who shares his headspace half the time? Or rather, he used to. Right now it's just whenever Asch allows it, or when he needs to. And Arietta... she has her own problems.

"...Whether they are or not, what makes you think that anyone you try recruiting as my 'lady friend' would be any better?"

"Whenever I'm depressed or feeling alone, sex usually perks me right up. I figured it would do the same for you."

He realized now that perhaps it was a little naive. Real healing took time and dedication. The kind that didn't come from a simple roll in the hay.

"That isn't how it works for everyone. Not that I'm saying that I'm depressed, I just-" Ugh, he doesn't know how to convey this at all. "...There's just... no guarantee that people would want to be involved with me."

"Don't say that, bud. You aren't half as hideous as you probably think you are. In fact, I didn't hear one woman say anything disparaging about your appearance."
