Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

[Konan has always been a logical person, but under the influence of Sona, that cold logic has been ramped up to a much higher level than normal. She's been spending more time around bodies of water than normal.

Now and then, though, some of her old self comes through and she begins to check up on the people who matter to her. Itachi and Law are on that list, so when she spots Law on a rooftop, she flies up there and stands a few feet from him.]

Hello, Law.

[Have you ever met someone who is at once entirely creepily vacant looking and at the same time, seemingly painfully and acutely aware?

That's Law right now.]

Hello, Miss Konan. [Blue. Sona.] You and Itachi have the same spirit.

[... too many people are possessed. And yet...? It's rare he meets someone who hates it like himself.]

He should be around here somewhere.

[Itachi alights beside Law soon after this is said, bowing his head to Konan. The connection between them is apparent, though he finds the draw he shares with her and not the pirate a little disturbing.]

Konan.

(ooc: Ack! Please pardon my fail.)

[Konan has encountered people with Law's present demeanour more than one might suspect. Shinobi are good at looking vacant when they're actually paying careful attention to details.]

How are you faring?

Well enough... for the most part. Discounting a few incidents.

[Translation from Lawese: the spirit in his head can go die in a fire now.]

You?

[Itachi just nods at Law's answer. He's been doing about the same, so the pirate speaks for both of them.

He seems interested in how Konan's been doing, as well. Likely more than Law, given their individual spirits.]

More drawn to water than normal, but well.

[Although to those who know her, being drawn to water even more than normal means she's wanting to be around it an abnormal amount by just about anyone's standards. She likes being around it normally for nostalgic reasons - she feels at home around it, having grown up in a land where a day without rain was extremely rare.]

Oh? Come from a place with a lot of water, Miss Konan?

[Law can relate. He did tell her when she was a child about coming from a world of oceans.

Where did she come from again? Rain?]

You could say that. It rained almost every single day there. Some days, it was a light sprinkle and others practically torrential downpour.

[The ground was never dry, but the plants that thrived on having a lot of water did quite well in her village.]

The names our countries take can be... quite literal.

[It might almost be humorous under other circumstances.]

But you already know that.

[The lips crook ever so slightly] Aa. I know. The Land of Rain, then.

[He closes this eyes, and there's a thread of nostalgia in his tone.] I remember sailing to places like that.

Literal, but accurate.

[After all, there was no doubt whatsoever when one had entered the Land of Rain.]

What were they like? Aside from the obvious?

[Itachi is curious as well. Tales of Law's exploits as a pirate were always worth listening to.]

One was a Spring Island - Highcliff, the other a Summer - Ryokuu. Which means temperate and tropical climates. Both were very green. Moors for Highcliff, a jungle with hallucinogenic plants for Ryokuu.

... spent two weeks treating this rebel commander at Ryokuu. Good pay, but the man was such a pain in the ass. Lead the Marines right to the island because he answered a distress call and it got tapped. Which, well, you can guess what happened next that required me being called in.

I suppose it was hard for him to ignore a distress call from his subordinates, even if it was a trap.

[She could ignore it, for the sake of approaching things logically, but she knows she would still feel the temptation to answer. One's subordinates are one's responsibility.]

The islands on your world seem to vary quite a bit from one to another.

...I suppose it's not so much unlike the various nations on ours, though I haven't seen your world to compare.

[Someday, perhaps... But it's best not to hope for it.]
