Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

He might not have asked her to stop. It's a new thought, hers, and cold. She feels cold, as forces her eyes open to stare at her hands. Still healing.]

[It's almost a whisper, the glow finally fades, her fingers tremble. How long had they been out there? The moon was still out, but it was still... very late. Or almost early.] ... oh ...

[She misses the feeling almost as soon as it stops.]

[Albert's lips lift in a faint smile when the glow fades, and he reaches into his pocket to pull out the watch he still carried with him.]

What a way to spend a night, hm?

[She breathes heavily for a moment, inwardly reeling with how shaky she feels.]

... it's progress.

[chikaidestroyer]

Indeed. [He slips his watch back out of sight and again inspects his skin. The healing effect is even more dramatic than before; now he can see a good portion of his shoulder, and the burn-like blackness along the side of his chest had receded to the top of his ribcage.]

[Carefully, she tries to maneuver herself into a sitting position before her body does it for her in a less careful way.

It's not as graceful as it ordinarily would be, or comfortable. But that's to be expected.]

... at least some good can come of this.

You have said that already.

[He watches as Raine lowers herself to the rooftop to sit, finally taking the time to button up his shirt again.]

Well, it is fortunate to know that it works. It will give me something to do.

[She's tired. Tired people repeat themselves.]

... Something to do?

[chikaidestroyer]

[Not just tired people repeat themselves.]

I somehow doubt you will be able to fly back to the house.

[wise_maiden]

I just need a few moment to rest. [So she told herself. Something more was on her tired mind.]

... this power exists in more than one person. Is that ...

[But it was dangerous. Would others be able to stop themselves? Would they know?]

[chikaidestroyer]

[He just looks down at her. Silent. Cold. Waiting.]

[wise_maiden]

... That's dangerous. [But genius.] Just... take care with who you seek out. This ... power is new to them.

[chikaidestroyer]

They will handle it. They have to, or Nala will ruin them. [His tone is dismissive.] Or do you fear what Nala may do?

[wise_maiden]

... they just might not be aware, is all. There are very few people who would remember this even happening before. [And while it is referenced in the guide, it's not something that would stand out after a long period of time not reading it.]

[chikaidestroyer]

Then I will approach those who are not normally healers. Less of an affinity.

[wise_maiden]

... I see.

[It's becoming more difficult to keep her head up.]

[chikaidestroyer]

[The shorter responses are, of course, noticeable. He shakes his head as he crouches next to her.]

Are you going to pass out on me?

[wise_maiden]

I hope not.

[She attempts to move her wings, but they remain stubbornly slumped.] ... I don't think I can get up.

[chikaidestroyer]

Well, I can't fly you anywhere. [He scoffs at the idea; he wasn't going to risk trying to carry someone around with him.]

I suppose you will have to sleep up here.

[wise_maiden]

... next time I heal you, we'll think better about the roof part.

[... it's a weak attempt at a joke. Trying to keep herself awake.]

[chikaidestroyer]

[He snorts and looks away, spreading his wings as he stands up again.]

If there is a next time.

[With that, he jumps off the roof and flies off towards one of the community buildings.]

[wise_maiden]

Could - [She opens her mouth to say something else, but the sound of wings on the wind startles her instead, as she forces her eyes open to watch his departure instead.]

... I see.

[chikaidestroyer]

[A good 20 to 25 minutes or so will pass before there's any movement in the darkness.

And when the darkness moves, it's huge and looming and has eyes larger than a human torso.




That is to say, the roof is soon occupied by a giant owl.]

[When one is left alone on a roof and fighting dozing, sometimes there are lapses in that dozing that cover up the sounds of what might herald a giant owl's arrival on said roof.

... It takes her a moment to gauge what she's soon craning her neck to look up at. And that hurts.]

Bil?

[... Well that was comforting, in it's own way.]

[The owl hoots in greeting, adjusting its wings and clacking its beak noisily. From around the back of it, there's the click of shoes meeting roof tile.]

Oh good. You're still awake.

[Albert's voice is dry.]

[The new sounds give her something to focus on, as she attempts to arrange herself into a better position so she could at least be helped to stand.]
