Starting at midnight on the 26th, Luceti and its inhabitants will find itself the focus of the Filial spirits, usually quiet and reclusive, now stepping out to deal with one of their own.

As promised, here is some additional information to help figure out how to play around with the spirits and interacting with similarly possessed people.

First off, each spirit has a certain time or place when they are at their most powerful. Consequently, characters possessed by them will enjoy these boosts and this in itself can be a deciding factor in what would otherwise be a stalemate. Here’s a quick run down:

Sona - She’s most powerful around lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Mostly this is concentrated at the southern lake.

Kipinn - He’s most powerful in high places, like mountain tops and the roofs of community buildings.

Faeren - She’s most powerful in the farmlands alongside things that grow.

Tsinku - He’s most powerful in the village itself, where technology thrives.

Eferin - He’s most powerful in the center of the forest where his heat may cause trees to burn. In fact, the upcoming forest fire may cause some trouble if his followers get too rowdy.

Hyt - It’s most powerful during the daytime under a bright sky.

Twila - It’s most powerful during the night time.

Nala- She has no domain and is generally welcome wherever she goes.

How possessed characters will deal with other possessed characters will depend on the interactions of the spirits themselves. A useful spreadsheet sums up these relationships. Those that have a friendly attitude to one another will generally allow ‘trespassers’ into their domain, but those they are not so friendly with may cause conflict.

Finally, to elaborate on Twila-possessed characters. Those with a natural affinity for darkness are likely to be possessed first. Once they have, they can try to recruit others less-compatible candidates to ‘join the cause’. Their goal is numbers. The more who are working with Twila, the better. Once they do, they’ll be inclined to act in their own self interest and if necessary, deal with others who try to get in their way. In the long term, the spirit Twila wants to stay this way, bonded to the Lucetians as hybrids, that way it cannot be imprisoned again. Think of it as pure survival instinct of an animal that’s spent way too long in a cage.

All isn’t lost. The other spirits may not be able to cage it again, but they won’t accept Twila reacting in this manner. Though it’s hard to tell what their beef with Twila is, they have an instinctive familiarity with the dark spirit and seem to act as its jail keepers.

They have the power to free people from Twila, but given their poor communication skills, figuring that out might just be a challenge. After all, the spirits can only communicate in shades of feeling and intentions, but not actually verbalize directions or marching orders. However, there will be a Malnosso post mid-event that will give everyone, possessed or otherwise, the info they need to turn things around.

He very nearly lied. But after telling her as much as he had, it felt ridiculous to now. So he reached behind him and pulled out the pistol he'd been keeping tucked in his pants, behind his shirt. He kept it loose, pointed to the ground, and handling it with his finger away from the trigger. He didn't want to alarm her and anyone who might happen to walk in.

"It's not a knife."

She was startled, but not for the reasons he might anticipate: "...Wait, do you have ammo? Where did you find it?"

"Do you mean here or back in Shambhala?"

"Here. I can't find anything for mine. Not yet, at least."

Nate shrugged. "I got it off the kid at the counter. He had it in a safe."

"...They wouldn't happen to be nine-millimeter parabellums, would they?"

Nate frowned.

"Nobody likes people who go around bumming bullets."

Though it might explain why he ended up with as many extra clips as he did.

Claire didn't frown. Nope, she merely held up a single finger.

"I just want one. Is that too much to ask?"

"It always starts with just one."

Her raised finger became part of an open palm as she waited to receive her flashlight.

"I'd say I would make it up to you, but it's hard to pay someone back in a town without coin."

He handed the flashlight to her.

"Promise not to use it on me and maybe we can work something out."

"What?" Her voice was thick with irony and humour. "I'm not going to be on an instalment plan, am I?"

Claire never took her eyes off him as she crooked her arms behind her body and tucked the light into a back pocket. In reality, it wasn't a promise she could make. Not with good faith and due diligence whipping about her brain, reminding her that it only took one wrong step for an ally to turn into an enemy. Outbreak mentality.

He was aware that, in spite of the levity, that there was an underlying seriousness to this 'deal'. The way she didn't look away told him more than anything she was saying out loud.

"No interest for the first year. It's a good plan."

A good plan, indeed. She stood quietly for a moment before clapping her hands together, then offering one out to the man she'd met but ever quite greeted. "You have a deal, then. Let's hope either you and I get sent packing before the first payment's due."

He tucked the gun back into place in the hem of his pants before taking her hand to shake it. At the moment, she had no gun on her and he intended to oblige her with an entire clip, rather than a single bullet.

"You'll have to give me a mailing address for the bill."

An address, hmm? Her mouth opened -- and her jaw hung there for a moment, hesitating on the edge of some wicked retort about airport hotels or else her work address. But something prompted her to soften the blow and to instead provide him with a piece of information that may be moderately more useful.

"Seven, I suppose. Building..seven? The streets don't have names and neither do the complexes. I'm in apartment eight, on the second floor. Chris and I took spots just across the hall from each other. We originally wanted the first floor but...snooze, you lose. Right?"

She gave his hand a shake before stepping back and tucking long reddish bangs behind one ear. Enough civilities, she supposed. Those tunnels weren't going to explore themselves.

"Actually, I meant--" He'd meant her home address, back on Earth, on the off chance she existed in his world too. Which was a silly fancy, but if he was going to take back any information from Luceti, that was about the only thing of value he could think of.

But he got a different address. "First floor? That. That was me. I did that."

He realized he'd stolen both her knife, her bullets, and now her floor. So he decided it was better to get a move on and he mad his way to the door.

She spun about on one heel -- calling after him only seconds before she followed to the door.

"You? You're the faceless someone we've been cursing before and after every meal?"

Upset? No. Just a little surprised. After all, first-come-first-served seemed to be a fair advantage in this town. But these strange intersections of coincidence and miscalculation were something at which she could marvel.

"I just wanted to make sure you two had something to talk about."

The series of coincidences did not go unnoticed to him. He decided it was best to not think about it too much.

A quiet chuckle. It had, indeed, provided conversation and commiseration. Something to help the Redfields rediscover their bond, now that they were inhabiting the same large square-mileage. They weren't often in the same country, let alone the same town.

"Wait. Do you know how to get to these tunnels?"

"It just so happens, one of the town veterans came me the full three hour tour. In fact, there's some stuff down there they don't mention in the guide."

There was a small sense of satisfaction that he was going to be the one educating her this time around.

"...Three hours?" She exhaled, her sigh and her expression both communicating some mild level of sympathetic dread. That was a long time for a tour.

"That's right. So keep up, Ginger." The entrance wouldn't be far now. It wasn't even all that impressive. Just a hole in the ground with a ladder.

Ginger. Well. Her brows raised, but she said nothing on the topic. As a chronic younger sibling, she knew all too well that fighting a nickname only made it stick.

"You'll be giving me the abridged version, won't you?"

As they reached the hole in the ground, he began to head down first. He tucked the flashlight into a pocket and started his descent.

"This tunnel system has been underneath the village for decades. They probably predated this enclosure, serving as a discrete method of transportation across the mountains into an area previously covered in desert. The people in this village first uncovered them about four and a half years ago."
