The Cultural Fair!

What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!
Where: All around the town square!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

She picks up the little wind-up Chief Bei fong and winds her tiny crank, then sets her down to walk along until the spring wears out.

She looks almost disappointed at that but shrugs it off.

"So you are gifted with giving life to metal, even if for a short time. I see."

...Don't mind her. She was simply poking her way 'round the hákarl. Building up her courage for a bit. In fact, she hadn't even necessarily planned on attending this fair past the helping Raine set up stage -- but recent improvements in mood and outlook had prompted her to stay and take in a few booths.

Maybe try a little local fare.

Maybe try not to end up vomiting.

You know, things like that.

[ ...buffy is here to visit with prince petunia, okay? she winkles her nose, staring down into the bucket. ]

Starfish don't do much, do they?

[ Excellent choice.

Ikki looks like she's pouting at the slight to dear Prince Petunia, however. ]

He does lots! He eats stuff sometimes. And clings to things!!

[ ...okay so he doesn't do much... ]

[ hmm. ] I thought Jack said it was a she when he -- you know what? Jack's never been very reliable in these departments. Never mind I said anything.

[ Buffy's being treated to a truly stunned and slightly offended look - but then again, she also had never heard that the starfish was female before. It had, in fact, just been presented as "Ikki this is a starfish I got, it needs a name. Think you can help out?" and had thusly become Prince Enrique Tenzin Ulberto Naoi Indigo Aang.

If she'd heard about the starfish being a girl (?!) it would have been a Princess. ]

How would he know? I know what they eat, but how do you tell that? Petunia just feels like a boy starfish. He's a Prince, after all!

[Air Gates!]

[While the cultural fair is no more her 'style' than the New Feather party was, at least this time Rue feels more confident in her sense of direction in the village. She remains on the fringes for a while; when the gigantic flying animal lifts from the ground, she follows to the best of her ability on foot.

Eventually reaching the air gates well after the latest challenger, she sees only the end of their attempt, watching the spinning pillars slow to a halt.

Once they leave again, Rue edges out of her spyspot in the trees, approaching the remaining person in orange (neither of whom looked very threatening, at least).]

Excuse me. What is this?

I...really don't wanna know how he would know that. [ ... ] It's probably not important. I mean -- what's important is that Petunia is happy, right? Who are we to judge.

I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER DOING ITALICS...

[breezing]

[ The pink plastic bucket gets a puzzled look for a few minutes - how did one know what a starfish was? DID THEY EVEN HAVE GENDERS? Things Raine would be asked later that week - but that fades quickly enough.

Ikki's nothing if not capable of bouncing back. ]

Right! And he's really happy! I mean, he got to ride on Appa over here, and I'm sure that was lots of fun.

[ the bucket had sloshed around a lot, but he seems no worse for the wear, anyway. Still...being a starfish. Keeping on keeping on. ]

Do you have a booth here?

[Air Gates!]

[breezing]

[ Congratulations, Rue: you've chosen the least threatening of the completely unthreatening airbenders. Ikki grins up at the other girl, perfectly cheerful. While Aang's off getting the next batch, Ikki isn't by any means completely alone: Soren's nearby perched in a tree. ]

Hey! These - [ a pause for a truly expansive gesture, indicating the air gates. ] Are the Air Gates! They're an airbending training tool - but anyone can go through, as long as we set 'em off. Want to give it a go? It's fun!

Air Gates. [Quite solid and metal-sounding for something made of air, aren't they? Approaching the nearest, Rue runs one finger over a shape etched into them.]

Will you demonstrate? [Another excitable child happens to be something of a sort of friend of hers. It makes this one bother her less.]

[ Prim doesn't have a booth of her own at the fair - and why would she? - although if Rin ends up doing a Seventh Heaven booth she'll help out there. For the most part, though, she can be found wandering the fair with genuine curiosity and interest, wearing a simple skirt-and-blouse combination, her hair braided back as usual. She's most drawn to any animal displays, or artwork, although she's also willing to try various foods, or to listen to stories.

Those people she recognizes (a growing number) and is friendly with (equally growing) get a smile and a wave, if they aren't stopped for a chat. She'll also spend a good portion of her time with Katniss, who has little choice but to be more social these days if she wants to keep a close eye on the far more social Prim.

Prim will be tagging into various booths, but this can work for anyone who doesn't have one slash whom she doesn't tag into. ]

[Eley's Aether 'Booth']

[Eley had almost completely forgotten about the Cultural Fair, what with recent events, but now he was feeling a bit more himself and was naturally curious about what was going on in the plaza right now. At some point during his wanderings, he decides that he wants to add something of himself to this fair too. He doesn't want to feel left out after all. However, he feels he's a little late to the party to do anything too extravagant and since he hadn't done any planning for this festival whatsoever he's not quite sure what he could bring from his own idea of culture. He had a whole world to show after all and each one had a unique way of living.

So what could he do?

Well, instead of a booth, he opts for finding a vacant plot of land to he can start... constructing something. Eley gathers a number of rocks and shells as well as several sturdy sticks and some lengths of string and ribbon. He's never really done anything like this before... this was more of a human ritual... but he'll try it all the same.

Out of the stones he seems to be building a map of sorts, laying out three large continents arranged in the rough shape of a circle, with a smaller continent made of white shells at the center and several small 'islands' dotted around the outer edges. At the top of the map he spells out the word 'AETHER' out of more stones.

Around the map the Spirit erects several poles using the sticks and ties the ribbon to the top, making an array of multi-coloured flags to decorate his masterpiece.

He'll no doubt be fiddling around with it to try and make it perfect, but at other times the place will be absent as he goes off to peruse the other booths!]

Sure! That's what I'm here for!

[ Ikki doesn't seem to mind the matter-of-fact calmness in the least. For now, she takes a few steps and spins, forcing her palms out to send a blast of air at the gates, making them spin wildly once again.

Offering Rue another grin before she steps into them, Ikki begins to circle walk. It's a different sort of dance, and she's light on her feet, graceful even at the age of seven. She follows the currents of the air through to the other side, and then, upon reaching it - turns and enters again, weaving her way through the clacking gates to come back out near Rue, her hands moving around her to help follow the currents. ]

- See? That's circle-walking, and that's part of what this teaches.

[Romania Booth/Magic Booth]

[ Helios' booth is going to be pretty flashy. Well, in terms of magic of course. There will be figures in iridescent colors and bright magical spells fluttering and zooming about the booth in soundless majestic dance. The booth itself will be decorated with traditional Romanian items that he's found throughout the years in Luceti. He's also made a small clay dool is celebration of Caloian, or a summer dance, and as with last time he will have Martisor hanging from his booth. Along with those objects there will be some Bukovian eggs as well. Helios will also have a number of foods such as: gogosi, Amandine cakes, and for something less sweet stuffed peppers will be out as well. On top of all that Luminair and Maggir his two dragons will be running about as well. Please to not be stepping on the baby dragons, okay? Okay. They will be trying to get people's attention by tugging on pant legs or chirping for attention so don't be alarmed when they come by. ]

[Kurt watches on in awe - being so used to training alongside people with powers, it's refreshing to see some girls kicking butt the old-fashioned way.

And once the demonstration is over, he makes his way over to Suki, giving a sly smile. He's wearing his X-Men uniform, but with the image inducer currently matching it up to his "human" self. He stops a few feet away from her, rubbing his chin as he scrutinizes her uniform.]

You know, on second thought, I don't think they make those in my size.

[Suki gives him a big smile when she sees him.]

Are you sure? I mean... [Checking out his uniform.] Mine looks a lot more comfortable than yours.

Hey, it's better than it looks! That and, you know, I can't help but prefer to wear something that's closer to pants. [A key difference between him and Mytho.]

[My, what a display that was. Rue nods a few times, a mix of curiosity and being impressed. The girl really did move like it was a dance, like something similar to music spoke to lead her through the proper steps.

Then she looks down at her feet, clad in regular, rather inappropriate shoes for this sort of exercise.]

May I return in a little while?

[breezing]

Of course! We'll have them running all day, for the fair.

[ Although they may trade off once or twice. ]

I'm Ikki, by the way.

[untrueheart]

My name is Rue. [No more pauses. It is a seamless sentence once again.] I will come back, then.

[She has to go get the right shoes. She found a pair, one that may as well have been her classroom red ones, so well-worn and perfectly fitted to her feet. And not black.

So Rue disappears into the trees again, to follow the path back to her apartment and get the shoes.]

[Kurt browses the food, a little confused by how odd some of them seem.]

This looks like some hot cereal...

[ Ikki will remain behind, waiting - and helping anyone else who comes along. She may be sitting on the ground speaking to Soren when Rue returns, however. ]

[A stone drops into the bottom of Rue's stomach, seeing this young girl speak so freely with a bird, even if the bird is of no sort she has ever seen before. Standing straighter, Rue clears her throat to get Ikki's attention.]
