What: The Cultural Fair
When: June 5th- 12th - admittedly dates are sort of nebulous - set up could have begun as early as the 5th, but given the event recently, more days could have been taken to do it and for people to involve themselves, so it probably "officially" starts a little later (by the 8th at the very least, though work can go on throughout it) - feel free to use your judgement/have fun!

Notes: Booths can be labeled as separate comments! Just put [booth name] or something in the subject line so people can find top level comments easier.

Work probably started for it on the 5th-7/8th for labor purposes, though feel free to use dates to your advantage here! (Even if characters slapdash something at the last minute, it would be fun to see! It would even be encouraged after the crazy from the last event - kind of a way to get back in touch with themselves.)

CHARACTERS ARE WELCOME TO TAG THE LOG FOR INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, NOT JUST BOOTHS, SO FEEL FREE TO TAG IN! Also a character who might not know what's going on is welcome to walk by and question it! And so forth. (Helios and Ikki made posts in regard to it and there have been art club posters around, so anyone could have noticed those as well!)

I'll leave descriptions up to you all as there isn't much that is too uniform about the displays, as everyone is encouraged to be creative about their presentations and how hard the characters worked isn't something I could define for each of you. Just keep in mind that this takes place in the plaza, there shouldn't be an issue with blocking traffic (there may be ropes up to try and keep pathways clear, however!), though it may branch around various points of the square depending on where someone wants a booth located / the number of actual participants. The square will also have a lot of brightly colored signs and decorations indicating what is going on!

"...It's not the worst smelling thing I've wilfully ingested."

[complicatedliar]

He rested his chin in his hand, leaning forward. "Really."

[herotypical]

"You'd be surprised how often this-or-that demon's blood shows up on the ingredients list for various potions, antidotes, and cure-alls." A brief second while she cleared her throat, tried to forget the flavour, and reassessed him all at once. "Oooor maybe you wouldn't be."

[complicatedliar]

"I'd suggest some mead. If you drink enough, the nerve damage will remove the taste from your mouth," Loki said with far too much cheer. "Ah, I see. Well, blood's a rather powerful thing to work with, when you've got it. Demons are rather more rare when I come from, though. And I have a policy against blood drinking. It seems very unsanitary."

How much of that was a lie? No telling.

"...I'm none too fond of blood-drinkers myself, the odd antidote aside. Kinda goes with the job description."

[complicatedliar]

"Ah, yes, I seem to remember that about you. I know there are a few of them about here, though. Do you just avoid them?"

[herotypical]

"Depends on the vamp, actually. But last time I checked we were a little low on those. New Feathers?"

[complicatedliar]

"I was considering one as a housemate, actually. He seems a nice enough fellow, though."

[herotypical]

...Somewhere, somehow, a penny just dropped. Because Buffy had been talking to a guy who had been discussing potential housemates. She didn't need to know whether Loki had been one of the responses to make her guess. After all, the man had been rather cagey about not wanting to be served certain beverages.

"Hal," she said -- in the voice of someone just now figuring something out.

[complicatedliar]

"Oh do you know him? He seems nice enough, though I haven't met him in person. And we shan't be housemates."

He felt no guilt for spoiling that secret if accidentally. It wasn't as if Hal had become his housemate in the end, and a little trouble was entertaining. Though he didn't expect Buffy to run off and hurt him. She'd been here long enough to understand the uselessness of that sort if thing.

[herotypical]

"...We've spoken."

She might have been more alarmed had Hal not expressly asked her not to serve him should he ask for anything beyond the normal realm of beverages. Such a request implied some kind of rehab -- doubly so given he had no sweet clue about Buffy's own stance on the matter. "About bar stuff, though. Not slaying stuff."

[complicatedliar]

"I should think the latter would make for a very awkward conversation." He shrugged.

"Though by the way, if you do happen across someone who needs a housemate, do let me know."

[herotypical]

...Although she'd been concerned about Anya living alone for a while now, there was no power on this planet or any other that could compel her to make such a suggestion. Dear lord.

"Oh, I don't know. I'm not sure that my people and your people are the kind of people that often co-mingle kindly. But -- hey, like you said: if I happen to."

[complicatedliar]

He laughed. "It isn't as if I could wait for sometime like me to show up. I'd be waiting for all eternity." He shrugged. "I got along very well with Gregor. Really, that's the reason I though I ought to start looking again."

[herotypical]

"Well? I think it's good...I hate living alone. Thankfully, I've never had to. Not here -- I mean, there are bouts of lonesomeness when my live-in pirate is kidnapped but...mostly? I figure the busier the house, the better. Even two seems a little too lonely. Of course, when you're used to a castle..." A slight shrug.

[complicatedliar]

"I've always wanted to be alone. Fewer interruptions. Though it was only the last two years I was able to keep my own company without having to resort to hiding." He sighed, then admitted, "But preference or no, I... do better when I am not alone, it seems." It's kind of embarrassing actually. "It means someone reminds me to eat if nothing else. And that seems to salve the worries of a few others."

[herotypical]

"I like the noise. And the movie nights. And the part in the morning where everyone kinda comes and goes from the kitchen, grabbing their coffee and pouring their cereal and...

And wait. You have to eat? Some non-mortal you are." The criticism was almost playful. But it was mostly kinda scathing.

[complicatedliar]

"I haven't experienced the movie night thing, but all of you mortals seen to like them," Loki remarked. "With Gregor around I liked the bit where we'd share coffee. And then he'd tell me to behave."

...not something he'd quite intended to say. Dammit, he sill missed the man so keenly. Buffy had been nice enough to give him an out though.

"I don't have to, technically. I cannot die of starvation. But consider that I am not a perpetual motion device. Energy must come from somewhere. So if I stop eating entirely, I would consume myself from within, I think. Which would feel rather like starving, only without the nice bit where death eventually ends the suffering."

[herotypical]

"I half-expect it's like that for vampires, too," she trailed off -- thoughtful.

[complicatedliar]

"I suppose we could ask one. I'd gotten the impression they feel quite hungry all the time, though. I don't, mostly. I just get... cranky."

[herotypical]

"They definitely get more hungry. And I've seen a few lose their appetite now and then. And, I mean, well..." She fumbled with her words. "Some have more control than others."

[complicatedliar]

"Lose their appetite? How interesting." He shrugged. "Are they not a bit like all people? Most are idiots, few are patient, and so on."

[herotypical]

"...They used to be people. So I suspect that has something to do with it. It's -- well," her voice dropped, as if she was sharing a secret. "It's a common line, on the job. The demon is a demon and he walks and he talks and he acts like the human he used to be, but he's not. Only...it's not really ever that simple. Not nearly."

[complicatedliar]

"It depends upon how one defines people, I suppose." He nodded. "Things invariably are more complicated."

[herotypical]

"Invariably." She repeated his word, finally added: "One of the finest men I've ever known was a monster. Is. Is a monster. It's hard, sometimes, to remember the right tense..."
